We made the decision to stay here after calling and receiving such friendly service. Driving to the site, and where the site is located, was a little worrying at first. It was a very industrial area with a lot of homelessness and quality of life issues going on. This, in my mind, did not bode well for where we were going. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the site, the cleanliness, the friendly staff, and friendly people staying there. We were able to use the hot tub, but the pool was not yet open for the season. They had a cool arcade room with some old school arcade games in there, which both the adults and kids loved. The toilets and showers were kept very clean and you had 24 hour access to them with the coded doors. They also must have security or a good police presence in the area, as I had walked around at different hours of the night and never saw anyone there that didn't belong. I did hear yelling coming from the neighboring vacant lot one night, but that was not the KOA's issue or fault.

Great location but we arrived to a gross site. Piles of dog poop (5) and a bunch of cigarette butts. Also, the site was extremely small for our rig. Bigger sites available so pretty frustrating. They did come clean the site at our request but for almost $80 a night we shouldn't have had to ask. We won't be back.

The campground is large and well situated between the airport and downtown. Any amenity is within a few minutes of driving and the light rail station is right across the street. The pull through sites are quite big and easy to get in and out of. People are friendly and helpful. Verizon signal was strong.

There are lots of amenities, games, a pool, a hot tub, 2 restaurants. The pizza place was fantastic, we didn't try the Mexican place though we heard it was great. We were here for the Halloween weekend and they had a trunk or treat for the kids. It's pretty convenient to just about anywhere in/around Salt Lake City. Ok, we do have one complaint, the AT&T signal was pretty poor. Other than that we would definitely stay here again.

We drove over 2500 miles to get here to help with COVID ICU staffing needs. They were aware that we had a service animal with us before booking. Once we arrived to Salt Lake City KOA I was asked what breed my service animal was and told that I would need a prescription for my service animal AND I would have to have my doctor sign their “legal” paperwork that was downloaded from the internet (still had the URL on the footer of the page from 2016) stating what my medical conditions were and that they were serious enough for my health care provider to have prescribed this specific AGGRESSIVE breed for our medical requirements. We contacted our provider and she assured us we did not need a prescription per Federal ADA Regulation. We returned to the KOA office to ask questions about these documents given to us and how this is acceptable to not allow my trained service animal, jeopardizing my safety as an American with a Disability in need of assistance. The manager proceeded to SCREAM at my wife in the camp office in front of several other customers that this is just the way is it, that rules are rules and that she was legally allowed to require paperwork asking for a “reasonable accommodation” AND require a prescription for our service animal. The manager denied us application to the long-term site due to not having a prescription and my doctor could not practice in the state of Utah at this time due to ever changing laws with COVID19. However the manager at SLC KOA/VIP Campground did offer for us to stay in a short term lot paying DAILY site rental rates for an EXTRA $1200 per month. The long term “lot” is ONE campsite away, 35 FEET, from where we were located. This short vs long term site is not separated by a fence, property zone or anything special. Please see attached pictures for reference. We witnessed many many other guests that had excluded breeds, too many dogs (per their pet policy), barking, loud and actually aggressive dogs. Meanwhile I cannot have my trained service animal that is required for my well being and safety without being financially exploited. For those that don’t know, we are NOT required to have a prescription for our service animal and this is blatant discrimination to ask us to do so. I guess the safety of their guests are not top priority. This park is less than 2 miles to downtown and is overran with homeless & drug related scenes especially after dark. I would not feel safe with my children here. There is no gate to ensure only guests enter the park and many campers have complained of increased theft within the campground since expansion of downtown. We would recommend Pony Express in North Salt Lake. The management is very friendly and helpful at Pony Express and happy to accommodate Americans with Disabilities without financial exploitation.

The WiFi literally never worked. I don’t even know why they would advertise it. There is no dog walk. All they provide is a little fenced area with Astro turf. The grass areas are peoples sites. We also have never had such an issue with flies as we did with this campsite. We never could go outside. We’re a full time rv family so we’ve stayed at plenty of places. The neighborhood is sketchy to say the least. We never felt safe as we saw random people come and go through the property. We drove by the local park just a few blocks away and saw people doing drugs right there in broad daylight. We even heard from a fellow camper that they had something stolen and they saw the person come from the street. The only positive thing we can say is the bathroom and laundry facility were clean and the staff were friendly. However I would not recommend this campsite and I will not return. It is not worth such an expensive rate.

These reservations were in July, August and September and totaled 35 days for a total of $2,400. We are full-time RV'ers and have lived in our motorhome for more than two years. On Thursday June 24, my wife phoned the KOA, inquiring if we would be able to extend our September reservation from ten days to twenty four days. Emily stated multiple times that "typically, we limit reservations to ten days". We are VIP tier members of KOA due to our numerous stays with their network of campgrounds and have never heard of a KOA or any other campground limiting the number of days that a campsite is able to be reserved. Listening to my wife speak with Emily on speakerphone, it appeared that Emily was a teen or young adult as she did not seem sure of their policies and her phone skills were dismissive and unprofessional. At my request, my wife passed the phone to me and I asked Emily to better explain the ten day reservation limit. Emily stated, "We are an overnight campground. If you are on the site, then someone else can't be here." KOA classifies their campgrounds as Journey, Holiday and Resort with Journey being "quick getaways, Holidays being "ideal for relax and play" and Resort being "the ultimate camping getaway". The Salt Lake City KOA is classified as Holiday and not focused towards the short stays as are their Journey campgrounds. I have re-visited this campgrounds' website and was able to see pricing for stays up to twenty seven nights, so I have no idea why Emily would state that reservations were "typically limited to ten nights". As I asked questions, Emily interrupted each one and did not allow me to finish a single sentence. After she did so three times, I told her that she was constantly interrupting me and I'd appreciate it if I could finish a sentence. I reminded her that we were KOA VIP tier members and said that I was disappointed in how she was handling herself on the phone. Her response was, "I'm cancelling all of your reservations", and she immediately hung up on me. I called the KOA back numerous times and the phone went to voice mail. A few minutes later as she indicated, we received emails confirming that all three of our prior reservations were cancelled. Through an online search, I found that this KOA is owned by the Menlove family, and they also own the Beaver, Utah KOA. I called the Beaver campground, explained the situation and asked to speak to someone in ownership. The agent took my information and said that she'd pass it along to the Menloves. A few minutes later, the clerk called me back and explained that my message was passed on to ownership and that I'd receive a call on Friday. After not receiving a call mid afternoon Friday, I called KOA's corporate headquarters and spoke with a Customer Care agent. They explained that Emily was not listed as a manager and that they would contact ownership, explain my comments and request that they call me. I have not received any call back. As we had a family event in August, on Friday we rebooked one of the stays that Emily cancelled. We did this as Summer campground reservations are scarce and figured that once we spoke with the owners, they'd clearly reinstate our reservations. A few hours after booking this online reservation, we received an emailed cancellation from the campground. After a few hours of effort, we have made new reservations outside of the Salt Lake City area. We had hoped to visit Salt Lake City and support local restaurants, breweries and retail businesses. Instead, we will spend our time and money in Wyoming and Idaho. If I had to guess, I suspect Emily might be one of the owners' kids, otherwise I think that any business owner would be alarmed that an employee cancelled $2,400 of reservations without the customers' consent. In two-plus years of living in campgrounds, I've never experienced anything close to this level of rudeness and incompetence by an agent, nor the utter disregard for customer service by ownership.

This is typical for nearly all KOAs and private campgrounds so if this turns you off, keep on driving. However, this CG offers excellent access to all of the city and even has a light rail station right in front of the campground. While this location is in an urban location and close to rail lines, the airport and highway, these sounds all blended into a typical urban white noise. The normal flight path of jets at the airport do not take them anywhere near the campground, the highway is far enough that you don’t hear it and the trains are far enough away to be in the background. The CG is located in a light industrial section of town but we felt quite safe. Most of the sites are sufficiently angled that despite being on top of each other, you do have some sense of separation. There are trees throughout the site which would be very welcome on hot sunny days. However, those same trees can block satellite TV, but there are excellent over the air channels and the campground has decent cable TV so you shljldn’t miss your satellite. This park has AMAZING free WiFi. We clocked speeds of 60MB down and 30 to 40 up on the CG WiFi network! Even when th CG was full, we got close to those speeds. Also, Verizon had blazing fast speeds. Did not try AT&T or any other carrier, but being in an urban area these should have been fine as well. The staff are friendly, all the utilities worked properly. Most of the sites are pull through and can accommodate the largest rigs.

Easy access into downtown using the light rail. Got kids? Don't miss the Leonardo Museum. We may return to the area JUST for that.Has a nice pool and hot tub and laundry. Don't have kids? Might want to avoid the hot tub, the kids had it pretty well overrun. We paid extra for an end site, a "deluxe patio site", which was pretty sweet. We had upgraded lawn furniture, no neighbors, and a wall of shrubs to have our own little private oasis. The trail on the Jordan river is pretty depressing. Homeless, drug users, graffiti. Not the place to take the kids. I rode the trail all the way south, and as soon as it gets out of SLC proper and into Provo it becomes wonderful.

If budget matters or if you're seeking to dodge the crowds, though, you might want to look outside the city for another option. The facilities are clean and decent, and the grass between the sites is the kind that makes you want to be five again so you can roll around in it. The walking trail goes from the back of the park to the Jordan River and state fairgrounds. The staff were helpful and never bothersome, although the campsite adheres to the usual strict KOA rules.

There's not many places to stay near downtown Salt Lake City, and the KOA was great! We enjoyed exploring Temple Square, City Creek Shopping Center, and swimming in the pool. The park was clean, efficient, safe, and the staff we interacted with were great!
