Rather than add another 950 miles of towing, I had her drop me and the trailer off at Overland Trail RV in Fort Davis while she handled business.Fort Davis is a small, West Texas town and is historically fascinating. From the park, you can walk to the original Fort Davis, the downtown square, a few restaurants, bars, and a grocery store. The park itself is a bit tired. The owner is a retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant and gets all due respect for his service. And, he’s a super nice guy. But he needs some work campers or staff to help him to let this park reach its potential. The bathhouse is in poor condition and rodent droppings are scattered throughout. A little gravel in the pad areas would mitigate some of the dust and dirt (West Texas is suffering from drought so no issues with the dead grass). The picnic tables are warped from exposure and haven’t seen paint in a long time. The place has tons of potential, it just needs elbow grease and a little cash to bring it back. On the bright side, it has cable TV. I could not manage to get on the WiFi, but cell service was a solid 3 bars of LTE on ATT.

  • A small place that works well for the area.

Good place to stay if going to the McDonald Observatory. However, remember this is a small town in west Texas so this is not the ritz. Sites are dirt only. Both full and water/electric hookups for RV are available. Also a tent camping area. As the whole campground is gravel/grass/dirt it is dusty. Our rate was based on a 15% discount for vets. Staff was friendly. Did not evaluate restrooms. Great location, probably the best of all local campgrounds, as it is within walking distance of all of town with the exception of the local grocery store. Good cable TV and wifi was very good.
