Stayed here to rest up and wait out a cold front moving through. Very dry, dusty, and hot. Only small trees so it has future potential. Our rig very basic with no water or sewer needs. Nice hosts!

We did not hear any planes, but did hear the Osprey helicopters a lot. We're aviation nerds so it was exciting for us to watch them maneuver. The spots are very close together and basically dirt spots. Some back in spots are so close that we saw a fifth wheel have to move spots because they could not get it backed in. This is a great place for a one night stopover if you need something near Amarillo.

Price shown above was before KOA discount. The campground is well maintained and the bathrooms are the best I’ve seen in a while! Site was very level. While setting up we could hear road noise and a frequent train ( and yes, since there is a crossing it has to blow horn!). I was worried but after falling asleep after a day of driving, I never heard a train all night long. We would definitely stay here again.

The nearby airport has so few flights that it’s not an issue. There are some train tracks in the area and plenty of trains roll by all day and night but it was just far enough that the noise didn’t keep us up at night. The staff were very friendly and cooperative. Check in was quick and safe even in these COVID times. The campground WiFi was quite fast until about 5 PM when everyone must have started to watch Netflix. Verizon data service was fast enough to stream HD video. The sites are typically small for a commercial campground but were easy to get into. The four star rating is based on the suitability of this campground for a peaceful overnight while traveling through Amarillo which is otherwise notorious for having very poor RV park choices.

Almost every time I stay at a KOA it is simply as a quick stopover to dump my tanks, fill up with water, do laundry, etc. I almost never stay at them as a destination. So from that perspective, this KOA was perfect. I had a back-in site, and one of the employees (Jon) took me out there and spotted for me while I backed in. He was super friendly and helpful and made sure to set me up so that I didn't have to unhitch since I was heading out the next morning. The restrooms and laundry facilities at this campground were probably the cleanest I've ever seen. The whole place really was immaculate. The general store even had a pretty good selection of craft beer! The only downside was the noise here. The campground is right next to a small airport, some train tracks, and the highway. So you get quite a lot of noise. But again, just as a stopover for one night, this wasn't an issue for me at all. Overall I was extremely happy with my stay here and will definitely be stopping again next time I pass through Amarillo.

Everyone was very welcoming and happy. Someone with a golf cart took us to our spot and helped us back into the spot. We enjoyed getting a limo ride to the Big Texan restaurant. They playground was fun, but the kids were disappointed that the pool was closed for the season in late September when it was still 85 degrees out! I think they should revisit that policy and let it shift with the weather. If another park with a pool had been available, we would have stayed there instead for the same price.WiFi was good. We were between 2 access points, so sometimes it dropped. But, once a device bounced to the closer access point, we consistently had 8 to 10 Mbps down and 4 or 5 up.Water was a little far back from the site and the dump site was raised a bit high, but not bad.T-Mobile speeds, off WiFi, was around 5 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up. Call coverage was fine.

On the outskirts of town which is nice. Trains can be seen and heard from park but not oppressive. There’s also an airport nearby but didn’t hear much air traffic. I spent a Sunday night at this KOA. The check in was great, done curbside. They took me to my spot and gave me a run down on the park. The park was full that night, folks came in pretty late but was not noticeable. The train going by was. I love the dog park and that is something I look for everywhere I go. I will stay here again.

Unlike many KOA's , the WiFi they advertise really works with a strong signal! We arrived late at night and expected to just see an envelope waiting for us in a box but there was a nice gentleman with his dog on a golf cart , ready to guide us right to our spot . The showers and bathrooms were extremely clean and seemed very "homey" . The bathroom doors are secured with a number code to unlock. With this extra security, I felt safer showering at night. There is a nice playground next to the bathrooms as well. We had a gravel pull-through with water, electric and sewer but we didn't hook-up to water/sewer due to our short stay. There are not many frills or amenities for the price but we were very happy with the cleanliness, friendliness and access to WiFi. It was well worth the price to us!

For an overnight, I don't think it's worth the price. The sites are about average for a KOA. No frills, no privacy, most are pretty tight but fairly level with new utility polls. The back in sites and outer pull-throughs have pleasant views of the surrounding fields. Unfortunately, due to lots of traffic noise from the highway, plane noise from the airport and very loud, all night trains, it's not a quiet place. Add in the extremely bright, 24 hour lighting and the only real difference between this KOA and the nearby Wal-Mart is the hookups, which I didn't need. While it's not a terrible place to stay, I couldn't justify spending $40+/night to stay here again.

While it was small, this KOA was very nice! When you first arrive, you're checked in and someone will escort you to your spot and help you maneuver in! They had wonderful customer service and were very friendly. There was a pool that we enjoyed cooling off in, and the bathrooms/showers were the cleanest I've ever seen at a campground! It's out in the middle of nowhere, and there's really nothing much to do out in Amarillo, except to go to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, which was worth the hour drive. I wouldn't necessarily go back to Amarillo, but this KOA sure made our short stay there very enjoyable!Blog Post: https://www.travelswithletwinkie.com/blog/2018/7/2/3-months-on-the-road-recap-of-the-places-weve-traveled-to
