When I came to check in, they had moved me to a different site. I wasn’t thinking at the time and didn’t mention the guarantee but questioned the move. The clerk basically said “too bad”. It was at this point he mentioned a damage deposit which is not on their website and it was not mentioned when I made my reservation. $30 A DAY damage deposit. It seems a little extreme. I am to get it back if I make sure that I unhook my water and electricity. Um, ok?The roads in the campground are very narrow There was no way I could get into the site that they gave me (135) but they did give me a better site close by. That afternoon, I watched 2 fifth wheels and a travel trailer fail to get into the site. A Class A was finally able to make it in. Once I finally got settled into my site, it was really nice. Lots of trees ( which made it difficult to maneuver thru the campground) but did wonders for the ambience. You are right across the street from Lake Tahoe with a wonderful beach and several miles of Forest Service trails. Dogs are not allowed on the Zephyr Cove beach but just walk further down and the dogs could enjoy the lake.

We were here in the winter, so many sites are closed and the upper bathhouse is as well. I loved how you could walk across and grab a coffee, browse through the great gift shop and enjoy the breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe just steps away from your campsite. $2.00 w/d laundry facilities (only missing a quarter machine, so bring plenty). The showers had great water pressure and temperature, the bathhouse was a bit dirty because I think they cut staff or lack there of during this season. We pretty much had a clear view down to the water BUT remember, winter season. I could see how this place could get tight come summertime. Our pull thru site made it a breeze to hook up on the paved site. You will hear some road noise but honestly it wasn’t a bother. HEADS UP to make it easier on yourself and your partner, read the reviews prior to and note that CHECK IN is across the street. Park at the campground (go around by the bathhouse on the right) and have one person go check in, easy when you know;) feel free to check out my Instagram stories for Lake Tahoe. Cave rock is 5 minutes up the road and a 15min hike (kid/pet friendly) , Nevada Beach to play on is the opposite direction 8 min towards town and is a wonderful beach to enjoy as well as walk/run the trails.

Our site number and park info was pinned to a bulletin board near the bath house. It was nice and quiet and there were not too many people. We had a nice, fairly level, pull-through site. In the summer I can see how it might be a little crowded, but I’d be willing to give it a try. A beautiful beach is right across the street & would be super fun in when it’s warm! We had a no-frills lunch (fish and chips) at the restaurant, which is rustic and has a nice view. Only about 10 minutes from South Lake. We did not use the showers but they were nice & private and clean. Our water hose did freeze one night - lesson learned for us!

Forested campground with some rocky outcroppings. There is significant, loud, road-noise from Highway 50 which fronts the lower section of the campgrounds. The upper portion of the campground was closed for winter, but offers locations that would be shielded from road noise. See attached picture of campground map. Sites greater than number 180 would be ideal.Seamless check-in. Some bathrooms closed, which we assumed was because of CV19 mitigations. As noted in other reviews, campsites are situated very close together.About 60 percent of the lower section of the campground was full.

We can get our 27ft Airstream through the trees and pulled into spots, but if you are new with back-in (or just don't like it) definitely get a pull-through spot.

That's the upside. The downside is very tight spacing made worse by a hilly location in the back and street noise in the front, showers infrequently cleaned, the need to drive 3-4 miles to get dinner because the lodge restaurant across the street is closed, and - worst of all - the poor to non-existent internet connection. On both T-mobile, Verizon, and the campground wifi, connection was reduced to a crawl in this area and inevitably failed when I really needed to get through. Ultimately, although we liked the cooler temperatures, it's just too much hassle to ever come here again.

It was late April and the weather was going to be perfect and securing a site this time of year was easy-doubt anyone will get in during the summer months without early reservations. Some sites are very tight. We were originally going to be in site 135 and there was no way we could fit between the trees at the entrance while making a slight turn as well. They put us in site 174 which is a back in site with a retaining wall next to the passenger's side. We could not open our basement doors or sit out beside the rig. Our picnic table and fire ring were on the driver's side right next to the sewer hose. We had no plans to sit out or picnic as my husband was going to be kayak fishing and I would be hiking with the dogs so it was fine. At least we could get level without the use of blocks-many could not. (We are in the mountains) Cell reception was fair. During the off season check in is at the store across the street and the lady working was not the most accommodating or friendly. I'm still waiting to have my AAA discount applied retroactively. All that being said-this is Lake Tahoe with an amazing beach-in a shallow cove-which makes swimming tolerable-always very cold water-great trails, and outstanding views. So, yes we will be back. You cannot reserve specific sites-just the type- pull through, 25 ft, 40 ft, etc. If you have an option and need a larger site, ask for 137. It looked the most level and is a 40 ft pull through. There are several pictures of the campground and the area on my blog.

It's nice to be just outside the business of Sth Lake Tahoe but close enough for the conveniences. The park is located just across the road from a beautiful beach with amazing views. (Once our neighbors left from site 165, we actually had Lake glimpses from our site). You also have easy access to Nth lake Tahoe up the east side of the Lake. Very quick and easy.Sites are large (there were some big gigs in the park), under the shade of beautiful trees. Sites are not 100% level. Bring some blocks. Our site was pretty level side to side, but front to back required some blocks. Our site was one of the more level ones.Wifi was great. 13mbs down, 6mbs up. (There are some Wireless G and some Wireless N access points. Connect to the Wireless N one - I think it was Access Point #2 - and it seemed faster)There was a little road noise (especially when our neighbors left, they must have been blocking the sound).Only criticism was check-in. On arrival it wasn't where you parked your RV, you had to cross the road to the main lodge gift shop to check in, which takes some time (Also, the gift shop has way overpriced supplies, but Safeway is less than 2 miles away)If you were to stay here in winter, each site has an electric heater on the water supply.

The staff was good, although the phone number is off-site for reservations and general calls. The access to spaces is tight, especially with snow poles up. The place is completely shaded by old growth pines. The park is well maintained, and beautiful. There are definitely bears around at warmer times of year FYI. There’s RV and tent sites. Sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Wood in the gift shop is $10. The sites towards the back are nestled around beautiful hillsides with granite rock formations. We didn’t use the bathrooms so I can’t speak for them. Road noise is noticeable at the front but we weren’t bothered. At the back, it would be pretty quiet. The restaurant was slow but tasty. Has a full bar. Good burgers. They own property at the lakeside, and a big boat for tours. The summer photos show the lakeside packed with people. We visited Sand Harbor, which has lovely beaches, but would probably also be packed in summer. We’ll be back. This is a beautiful, relaxing place!
