We came in late last night to the Ouray KOA and saw that we would have to pay $63 to stay for the night. This is about twice as much as we’ve paid it other private campgrounds. In the morning when checking out I found out that there was an additional eight dollar charge for a ‘resort fee’ and $10 from Ouray county. Total with tax $84.44. Neither of these fees is posted on the price sheet. The price we paid was only for water and electricity. Dump station is listed at $25. Guess the environmental fee doesn’t cover that. As I said we stay at KOA only as a last resort. This visit has confirmed it.

New owners have doubled both tent and RV capacity without adding a square foot of additional land mass. Long lines in unsatisfactory restroom facilities . . . I wonder if the County Land Use department is aware of the camper capacity without adequate restroom facilities?? Someone should take a look as these folks have crowded too many campers into a small space that may present fire and safety hazards. Much better off in a National or State campground . . . NEVER again=/

But the main reason we wouldn't stay there again is this place tried to charge us $15 to use the dump station! We were paying guests (paying $83/night for an RV site, including undisclosed added fees like a "resort" fee). Their website doesn't disclose that they'll charge you for the dump station, which at any normal campground is always included. And no one mentioned it, it's not in their booking info email, there are no signs, etc. They basically just came by and tried to charge us after we had already used the dump station. It's basically extortion. I think they just think they can get away with it because campgrounds are so full in the summer and they don't feel like they need repeat customers because there is enough demand. But avoid this one if you can.

It’s set in the mountains and far enough away from 550 that there is no road noise. We absolutely loved this campsite. They communicate a lot through text message, which was nice to be able to order ice or firewood or propane and have it delivered directly to your site. The only downfall, which they are currently working on fixing, is there is no Wi-Fi. They do not have campsite wide Wi-Fi, only limited access in the cafe or office. But as I said, they are currently erecting a net work so each campsite has access.

Site quality - We were at the very back in a field where RVs were parked every which way. We did have full hookups and were away from the dirt road (plus) but it was not a site just a field with shared hookups. Very odd.Roads/Parking- The entire park is dirt and they do not go around with a water truck. It is extremely dusty. They need a water truck. Also, when you pull in you have to drive through the check in and half the time the road is blocked by campers checking in. There is no other way to get to your site. There is also no parking for laundry or restaurant (that I saw).Cell Service/WIFI - Did not work where we were at the back of the park. We have a booster and I could get a bit of AT&T during the day but had a hard time working.Amenities - None that I saw. No playground or other things for kids if you're looking for that. Laundry machines are OLD.Staff- We went to the restaurant on a Sat night when the park was sold out and they only had 1 poor woman working the entire place. It was a disaster. I also tried to get a burrito one morning at 7:30 and they weren't ready (menu said burritos from 7-8am). Other than that, they seem to be on top of picking up trash from your site and trying to help. Noise - They were on top of 10pm quiet hours. No other noise.I know they have new owners so maybe things will be better next year?

This is NOT, and should not be considered a site. We booked a back-in, but this site is a pull in only, due to having to go through other campsites just to access. We encroached on three other sites (making other campers unhappy), and were parked by staff next to a class A with slides out approximately 6 feet from my door. Maybe KOA thought since I was "just a sprinter" they could jam us in. The grounds were full, and traffic made it dusty. Our "site" was adjacent to the restrooms/showers. When I say adjacent, I mean the front of my van was about 10 ft from the structure. The fence rails had been removed from site 117, making this a primary footpath to the bathhouse (even though there were proper pathways elsewhere). Upon leaving, I expressed my concerns and explained that they should have warned me of this awful site selection (I would have probably used a tent site, but wanted power on this cold night). I then asked the location of the dump station, and was informed that there was a $25 fee to dump. I again explained that I was a guest the previous night, paid full fare for a horrid experience, and was only dumping 6-8 gallons of gray from my van so I could boondock the next night(s). It didn't matter to them at the time, and I left disappointed and a bit frustrated. On the up side, the layout of the restroom/showers is good (everyone gets there own room with a locking door) on the back side shower house, and they were kept adequately clean. There is also a great dog walk trail near the rear shower house that we could get out of the dust and away from the madness on this busy day. Oh, forgot to mention that Wifi ONLY works at the front office or adjacent. Nowhere else in this large park will you get access. We really should have braved the cold and just boondocked...

That's not what I want to see when I look out my window. Every person on the staff that I encountered was awesome. The restaurant was open while we were there and I heard from friends that they had pretty good food though I didn't personally try it. They will deliver firewood and ice to your site which is very nice. I looked around Ouray and the KOA seemed to be less parking lot like than the rest of the RV Parks. I guess it's a necessity to pack in as many as you can when real estate is as high as it is.

It is rustic and cozy with pine trees and cabins. The new owner is very new... having taken ownership in Jan 2020. We had some time to speak with him and he is a great guy. He was explaining his extended plan for the grounds and it sounds epic, and luxury. The current vibe is nice and we appreciated the wonky nature of the sites (we were tucked in right to a border fence and pretty close to our neighbors, but not in an overly imposing way). It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for these grounds. At any rate, we liked the layout. There is a cafe with actually good food! We got the breakfast burrito twice. The cafe is open for breakfast in mornings and live music and dinner on most evenings. The cabins looked great. Everything was clean and basic including dishwashing area, laundry and the office. There is a nice stream running through the grounds. Historic Ouray is 15 minutes up the road as is the town hot springs. Ridgway is 10 minutes away and Ridgway State Park another 5. We were able to hike in the San Juan Mountains and drive the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton within an hour. The park seems popular so you might want to plan your trip to Ouray ahead of time. The sites are a bit expensive but the area commands the cost. WiFi is useless, that was our biggest problem. This place is a solid 4.5 on its way to an optimized 5, but for now, we have to round down to a 4 star place.

We didn’t eat at the restaurant, but saw lots of people there so must be good. We had a site that had the mountain stream running by our fire pit. It was pretty awesome to listen to. Via text you can order ice or firewood they will have a young man deliver it to your campsite which was a nice perk. We had truck issues and didn’t think we would be able to leave the park with our camper on the day we were to leave. The owners kindly offered to work with us with a dry camping option despite the fact that they had a 100% booked campground. It worked out that we got the truck fixed that day, but still the fact that they cared meant a lot. (Truck issues in the mountains SUCK) They had plans in place to expand WiFi to the camp sites but haven’t gotten it done yet due to Covid, but signal was strong at the office and restaurant. We had good AT&T and Sprint coverage. We will definitely stay there again! P.S. If you go, rent a Jeep and hit the mountain trails! Best part of our trip! We used Switzerland of America and will again. The park does rent Jeeps but we didn’t use them because we didn’t know prior to arriving.

It was actually a ditch about 6 feet wide but it had beautiful clean water rushing through it. Sounds nice but you could not see it or hear it from our spot, even though it was only 25 feet behind the trailer. Our spot was convenient if you wanted to use the KOA facilities but behind our trailer the view was less than perfect. They charge for their showers, not sure how much but we decided to use the trailer. The camp store was well stocked and very nice. We quickly realized how much we loved the area and worked with the office to extend our stay another two weeks. Grace who works in the office worked her magic and secured our spot for us for two more weeks so that we did not have to move our travel trailer at the time. We backed right up to the creek that runs through the camp which cancelled out a lot of the noise from other campers. Our site was shaded most of the day so it never got too hot in the trailer. We forgot about the 4th of July and needing reservations and originally the KOA was fully booked. Grace and Eric in the office were aware that we had no place to go so when cancellations came in for that week they informed us they had availability and were able to get us in for the 4th! We had to move twice but we were ok with that seeing we had no where else to go! We can't say enough about this place! The majority of the employees were awesome, especially Grace, Eric and Lou! The older ladies that work in the office could take a lesson or two from these three as they are not the friendliest ladies I've met. The campground itself was kept well. The bathrooms were cleaned daily I believe both mornings and evenings. Campground is located in an awesome area! Minutes from Ouray and Ridgway which both offer groceries, dining and entertainment. Also since you're right in the mountains you may even get to see wildlife. In our stay we saw at the campground, elk, rabbit, grey fox and a black bear across the river! For those that are needing it the Verizon cell signal was great with a booster.
