The river was in view of our site and it made it even better! The most important part we want to mention is their outstanding customer service! We have traveled all over the US along the South and Midwest and have not encountered better customer service post covid, than here. Many people lately just do the bare minimum, but here in Ouray, they go beyond expectation to ensure you are happy. We would recommend 100%! We plan to stay here in June again.

The river is a constant yellow color due to the minerals in the water, so not your typical pretty river, but is still unique.Overall, we would stay there again if in Ouray. One note, the road from Durango to Ouray is a little challenging. I would definitely NOT recommend it for novice RVers. We had no issue with our F250 diesel and 39 ft fifth wheel. However, we spoke to a few people both in Durango and Ouray who cooked brakes. We took our time, and pulled over as needed to let others pass. It is a gorgeous drive!

Friendly staff, fairly close to town (nice walk along river and then cut through the park), all fresh gravel (fairly flat) and only a few bugs. Of course, great scenery with the mountains, but only a few trees in the park for shade. If you book a circle site, #19 and 20 have some shade. Very close parking unless you pay for the premium sites along the berm side near the river. Be sure to bring extra sewer hose because the dump connection is far up front. Wish we knew that.We had to book a year in advance to stay over the 4th and the minimum stay was 1 week. After talking with neighbors, found they were able to book only a few months to weeks before and could stay for just 3 or 4 days. The WIFI is free but very slow and intermittent, almost unusable at night (125 to 250MB/s). There is no OTA TV except for a PBS station, so you better have a Dish or bring movies. AT&T was at 3 bars.Laundry is not free. $4.75 a load and $.25/5 min for dryer. Need exact change or crisp bills. The road (550) is right next to the park and quite noisy during day and occasionally at night.Speaking of noise, I suggest NOT coming during the July 4th weekend. Why? Because there is a crazy person who fires off a real canon right next to the park at odd hours through the entire weekend! Even during the night like at 2 AM! You can even smell the gunpowder it's that close! He's been doing every year and it's a tradition that probably won't stop any time soon. You might be better off at the RV park in town which is further away.Any other time of year, this park may be fine for most people, as Full-hookup RV camping is scarce in Ouray and there's none in Telluride.

Yes, the staff is great and when that is the first line of a review I know there are other issues. The other campground in town J+1+1 I think has grass and trees and is “in” town walkable from the campground. We stayed the Ouray RV Park & Cabins as we were meeting others here. If you are going to landscape your ENTIRE park with grey gravel check out some desert RV parks they know how to make things appealing. For goodness sake the entire valley is littered with multi colored rocks but they must have hired a road contractor to do the place. Heck there were piles of gravel in the park just in case they wanted to do some more “landscaping’. Not a stitch of shade other then the power poles and lines going through camp. The riverwalk that loops the river is again graded dirt with huge rocks. I’m not slouch but walking this 1.9 mile loop you must wear high top boots or you might twist an ankle. For the price you pay, the owners should trying a little at least to provide some shade, some grass SOME visual beauty! Right now it looks like a location money grab to me.Anyone who thinks this place is the best must like Walmart parking lots. Seriously…

One of the best stays we’ve had for a number of reasons- essentially in downtown Ouray but doesn’t feel like you are in town- walking/biking right into town, parks, hiking, and hot springs- great little restaurant observing excellent social distancing. We had 2 dinners and breakfast here and each was excellent- sparkling laundry ($4 per wash, $0.25 for 5 min dry) and bathrooms- propane fill- right on a lovely creek- communal propane fire pitI let my kids ride into town to buy donuts and other odds and ends, and we enjoyed the hot springs immensely. Tons of easy, medium, and advanced hiking less than 10 min drive away. The sites are a bit close together, but the views of the mountains, shaded sites, and Easy river access more than make up for it. I’ve stayed on RV lots that are a “big parking lot” and that was not the case here.

There are trees running around the outside of the park but no greenery within the park. They also do not water down the gravel so you will have dirt and dust to contend with. The sites are very level and very long but very close together so no privacy or space to spread out.Internet was typical for an RV park. It got bogged down during evening hours. There is no cable and we could not get any OTA channels. The staff was very friendly and there's a good vibe in general but they could make this park a lot nicer if they made some attempt at adding some charm. How about some western looking wooden fences between sites or flowers, some green space? A little goes a long way when it comes to that and there's nothing here.ATT and Verizon were good. Booster helped get Verizon to about 10d/l (4 unboosted)

Currently, we are full-time, location independent, perpetual travelers, roaming around North America. We have chosen the Ouray Campground due to its proximity to Telluride Ski Resort closing weekend festivities and the towns of both Telluride and Ouray. Its likely to be crazy to read this, although of all the countries we have visited throughout the world and the experiences we have had within them and the relationships we have managed to create, the town of Telluride is one of our Top 56 Most Beautiful Locations we have visited. I know..... I know..... But we firmly stand behind our decision. Now, back to why you are reading here...WHAT OTHERS ARE LIKELY TO EXPERIENCEUpon pulling into this particular campground, I found myself a bit confused. the location is basically an RV Park on a gravel parking lot. Sure, they have the typical 30/50 amp services, along with water and sewer, a picnic table, fire pit and our AT& T was more than adequate without boost. Yes, they have clean bathhouses, laundry facilities and even an on-site diner, but its still a parking lot?Confused at why this location has such high reviews online with favorable write-ups. That said, because of the reviews we chose to pass on other camping options and now I was regretting it. Thinking about pulling right around handout, it was our guest that said, lets just stay here for a couple days and then if still unhappy, we can relocate. We backed our BiG RiG into a river backed spot, dropped the levelers and opened the slides. I then exited the BiG RiG and it was then it all came together.SPECIAL EXPERIENCEUpon steppingjutside the crisp mountain winds were blowing through the valley, although not so strong that it overpowered the sounds of the rushing river only feet away. To step outside, your eyes were overpowered by the very dramatic, incredibly red rock cliffs, towering over the BiG RiG. During our stay, every day being reminded why this place is so highly rated. We enjoyed falling asleep the rushing water sounds, waking to the grazing of deer tour BiG RiG doorstep and the sites of both fox and bear on property did not hurt our experience ;)Now, no longer feeling confused but rather feeling grateful. Grateful we had not completely judged a gook by its cover. Had I pulled around an right back out, we would be no closer to understanding that magic that is Ouray RV Park and why it is so highly rated.RATING - CAMPING EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONSIf you would be interested in reading about the locations mentioned within this camping review, our near death experiences, our close calls, our lessons learned on the road, our campground reviews or about our top secret free camping locations, be sure to follow us...Destination Dupont - InstagramDestination DuPont - FacebookWWW.DestinationDuPont.com - WebsiteCAMPED APRIL 2018POSTED SEPTEMBER 2018

If you haven't been to Ouray, you MUST go! It's called the "Switzerland of America" for good reason. The RV Park is located within a short walk to the hot springs and town. There is a safe, off-road trail along the river to walk into town. The river alongside the park is excellent for letting the dogs go for a swim which we did daily. The trail along the river is also great for walking the dogs, taking a walk and enjoying the views. The park is all gravel and seemed to be recently topped off with fresh gravel soon before we arrived. We were in a pull-thru site not along the river (but we reserved that for next year). The site was plenty long for our 45 foot motorhome and trailer without having to disconnect. We parked our Jeep alongside the RV also, so the sites are quite roomy. The onsite café offers breakfast and dinner which we visited quite often and the food was great and very reasonably priced. The owners and workers are all incredibly friendly and helpful. The park is extremely clean and well-maintained.We had no issues with any of the utilities and everything worked just great. Our site required very little leveling despite being on gravel. There is a little bit of traffic noise, but the speed limit there is slow so it's not too bothersome.

Ouray RV Park is just a half mile from the center of Ouray with clean showers and laundry (6 washers), a gas station, and a popular cafe that serves breakfast and dinner. It's also close to Ridgway, where they filmed the John Wayne/Kim Darby version of "True Grit." The whole area is breathtaking, with one caveat: if you're headed out of Ouray to Silverton and points south ignore your GPS and Mapquest and do NOT take your RV over Route 550 through the San Juan Mountains. There's a reason the "Million Dollar Highway" (built in 1880) is on the list of the world's 10 most dangerous roads. We decided to drive it in the truck before towing the trailer and it was white-knuckle the whole way: no shoulders, no guardrails, and 300 ft. drops, and once you're on it there is no place to turn around. Take the route around through Ridgway and Telluride. It's only 20 miles and 5 minutes farther.

That distance is nominal and really shouldn't be an issue for anyone since there's a trail right next to the campground (and right behind our spot) that leads right into town. We used the bikes to come back and forth into town. Very convenient. The spots at 4J seemed much tighter together, busier and since we were only there for a few nights we didn't mind paying a little more to have the extra space (we opted for a double size spot that backed the river) and the incredibly clean amenities. The staff was SUPER friendly. There's WIFI which was surprisingly quick, they'll accept your packages at the main office, they offer propane fill-ups, there's a great laundry-room on site and a full service cafe/restaurant. At a minimum this is a great place to stop and get everything done while on the way to your next (remote) spot where you might not have any of these things available to you. I really can't say a single negative thing about the place. Can it be a little less expensive? Sure. But I'd say it's worth the extra money to stay here as opposed to other place even if it is a tad bit more of a walk.

It's a quick drive to get there, or you can walk along the riverwalk trail which runs right along the RV Park. The park is also right along the Uncompahgre River. The views from the park are wonderful, though the tall mountains to the east mean that you won't see the sun until two hours later than official sunrise! The free WiFi worked quite well, Verizon worked well, but AT&T data was very slow. The park is on the expensive side (we paid $54/night after tax), and is mostly just a gravel lot with hookups with very little in the way of landscaping. It's also fairly noisy since it's right on Highway 550. We might stay again, but would try to find something a little less expensive nearby first.

We loved that it was 1/3 mile to downtown Ouray (via the road or the bike trail, which runs right along the river sites). The staff were very friendly (a new family recently bought the campground and they are doing a great job). The facilities are VERY clean, and although some of it was still in transition (laundry room, game room, etc), they were still fully operational and clean. The campground has been updated with all new electrical and water lines recently and all worked great. The downside was that it's basically a gravel parking lot with only a few tree spots on one side. (Although if you've been to Ouray, you know that the views right in town are enough to make you kind of forget about that.) They did mention that landscaping is in their future plans. The wifi wasn't great...but that wasn't a huge deal for us. This campground was primarily used by huge RV's while we were there...and ended up leaving a night early because it got very full. They found a camper for our site very easily so refunded our last night for us. Each site has a picnic table, and they offer gas fire rings (gas is all they allow) for rent if needed. They mentioned we needed to lock up all food and not leave anything that looks like it may contain food out (beer coolers, etc) at night because bears come to the campground every night. We never saw them, and they didn't bother us at all...but something to consider. This is a nice place to park it if you want to be close to town/hot springs, the park, close to the river, have access to a walking/biking trail. The views are beautiful and you must visit Box Canyon Falls on the other end of town if you go to Ouray. It was amazing!
