The owners are super nice and hard-working. The roads and sites are crushed stone. Roads are easy to navigate for big rigs and were watered daily during our stay. The RV sites are a good size with a picnic table. There are mature trees for shade at many sites. The tent sites are grassy and shaded, and beyond are green fields, the river, and red cliffs. Although the campground is near the highway, there is no bothersome road noise since the campground is set downhill from the road. There is a trolley that runs on a regular schedule to downtown Durango. Utilities all worked as expected. No trouble getting level. Good T-mobile signal and WiFi. The laundry was clean and well provisioned. The Durango & Silverton RR passes by a couple times a day (not at night). This is our second stay and we’ll be back next year!

It is a little tight but not horrible and we were easily able to pull into our spot with our 39 foot fifth wheel. The check-in staff lady was very friendly and answered my questions. Having the train run through the campground is awesome and everyone waves as it goes by! We did the full day excursion and it was wonderful. Durango is a great little town to visit. We took the trolly into town and it costs $1 or $.50 for seniors. There is a great app for your phone so you can see where the trollys are.Verizon coverage was not good. I did put up our 25ft Cell Phone antenna and the got us from 1 bar to 2-3 bars, so it was usable and was able to stream a college football game. The in-park WIFI was ok, but slow during busy times, which they all are, so no surprise.I am sure if we return to Durango, this is where we will stay!

Close to each other, but not too tight. Many of the sites are in wonderful shade under massive trees, but there are some that are more exposed to open sunlight. The tradeoff is that the sites with less shade have a much better view of the train as it goes by, and quickest access to the grassy area for dog walking. Our power and water pedestal was shared with the site next to us; everything in great working order. Warning: there was a SLIGHT taste to our water, but we aren't sure if that was the campground, or the new hose we were using. Quiet times were respected by all. It would be helpful if the reservations clerk could let campers know that there are TWO ways to enter the campground off Hwy 550. Depending on the size of your rig, one of the entrances might be easier than the other. Check-in went smoothly; the staff at this park are still (as of June 13, 2021) being very cautious and careful about COVID protocols - we were asked to wear masks in the office/store. (NOT a problem for us, but took some other folks from other, more "open" states by surprise.) My only "criticism" is more of a suggestion for future improvements. This campground could be greatly enhanced by making the grassy area between the lower sites and the railroad tracks into a fenced dog park. The choices of places to walk and exercise your dog there in the park are rather limited, and unless you stick to that grassy area, you either have to go up out of the campground onto the street and walk along the edge (scary and not safe!), or just keep circling around the edges of the park. But the large grassy area between the sites and the tracks, if fenced and set up properly, would provide a SPLENDID dog area! BTW, Durango does have a wonderful dog park near the intersection of Hwy 150 and 660 - lots of trails to explore, the river to splash in, and space to run and run! Best to go early in the day during summer months because it can get really hot. AND, the locals know that the best access and parking is actually at the far end of the Holiday Inn Express parking lot! One of our favorite things about this campground is that you get to experience the Durango Narrow Gauge train several times a day! The train track LITERALLY runs past the campground, and each time it comes through, you have a wonderful opportunity to watch the train go by. The loud train whistle can be startling, but watching a steam engine travel past is such a fun experience, and part of what makes Durango so memorable!

As we tow a car with our motor home, at check-in we asked for a pull through and was charged $34 for a campsite that isn't long enough; still had to disconnect. The water spickot is too low to accommodate our H2O filter. The Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad wanted $180 for two on a shortened, two hour route not going to Stirling. Reserve by phone and drive 10 miles from United CG to board. The men's shower is "closed for the season." The CG is barbed wire-fenced with no direct access to the Anamis River. The tent site section is grass; the rest is uneven stones. The Anaimis Valley views are great. Durango is a neat area, but we'll find another CG when we return; can't recommend United Campground.

This was very convenient to town—where we loved the off leash dog park right on the river! We would have loved it if this campground had a dog run. They don’t allow dogs to cross the tracks and even walk (on leash) in the tent area which would have been nice as there were no trails nearby and we just had to walk our very energetic lab in circles around the campground. Thankfully there were lots of other dogs she could say hi to. We understand why dogs aren’t allowed in the tent area of course. The campground is beautifully situated between 2 mountains and on the river—outstanding views. Nice laundry and bath house which were open during COVID with precautions. Cell service was decent but not fantastic. Their WiFi was unusable and they were very open to feedback about that — one of the groundskeepers was driving around doing speed tests to try and fix things. The grounds were kept very tidy and they watered down the gravel driveways several times daily to mitigate dust. Easy access to several trails — we loved going north and hiking near Purgatory resort and also stopping at James Ranch for dinner. In town businesses did a nice job following CDC guidelines for COVID.

The property is naturally terraced on three levels, making the landscape pleasant to look at. The tent camping grassy area was so green and shaded. I’ve rarely seen such a nice tent camping area. It’s located in a safe area of town, and less than 5 minutes from Main Street. The narrow-rail train passing through the campground property during the day was really fun and memorable. Bathrooms/showers are older but very clean and well maintained. Laundry room had plenty of washers and dryers, all in good working condition. Wifi was present but extremely slow speed that I chose to use my cell phone as a hotspot instead. Lots of families here. Very quiet at night. This is a great family campground that I would definitely stay at again.

They graciously sent them in the mail. Our little guy was elated when they arrived today. I appreciate their willingness to make that happen! We were able to take the last two spots they had available. The sites were very large, bathrooms were clean and the pool was a huge perk. Prices are very high but relative for the area. Initially we booked just one night at United in Oct. 2014 coming on a recommendation from two or three other previous campers. It was getting towards the end of season and a few of the Durango campgrounds were closed. I left a voicemail for the office and received a prompt call back notifying me that they'd hold a site in our name. The location was easy to find and not too far from downtown. Our one night stay turned in to three because we were having such a great time in Durango. The staff was very accommodating of our request. The grounds were clean, there was lovely shade trees all throughout, and great views. The Durango-Silverton historic passenger train comes right through the middle of camp bringing many campers to gather `round, take photos, and wave. (The train comes through in the later morning and early evening and is only a few cars long. It usually only honks it's horn once or twice. It's nostalgic, not an annoyance.) RV spots with full hook up were towards the front of camp and tent camping was in the back half of camp on the other side of the train tracks. The bathrooms were clean and not crowded - three shower stalls and three toilet stalls in the main building. The second bathroom location was closed for season but that did not pose any problems. I used the laundry facility and was a little dismayed that two separate dryers didn't completely dry my clothes. They have a machine to exchange dollars for quarters and laundry soap for sale. There is a pool, though closed in the winter, and a game room that we did not visit. Supplies are on hand if you need basic toiletries or souvenirs in their shop at the main desk. Wifi was EXCELLENT - fast and reliable. There is an on-site trash dumpster but no recycling. United Campgrounds is definitely a place I would recommend and would stay there again should we ever find ourselves in Durango.

Do they love trains? No?What's wrong with your kids?If you've got young boys like mine, honest American patriots who love trains like campfire smoke loves eyeballs, then you'll absolutely probably kinda like this place! There is little else to report, except an old time trolley that you can catch somewhat regularly down into Durango proper, which is a very cool town full of bars and breweries and toy shops and the kind of laid back vibe one might expect from most Colorado towns but which is often lacking in this corner of the Centennial State.
