We happened upon Cleone Campground & Grocery while searching for a place to stay during early August. We had no reservations and needed decent AT&T data/voice service because one of us works remotely. This is a decent stopover location for maybe a night or two if you’re exploring Fort Bragg or Mendocino. More than that, however, and we would find a better place. Practically no full-timers here; it’s mostly tent camping with the occasional trailer or motorized units. We lucked out in site #26 which offered great privacy - even when someone was camped across from us in site #25. The grocery store is pretty basic with lots of beer and wine selections, packaged and non-perishable food options. It offers a basic selection of those items you might have forgotten or run out of during your stay. It’s by no means a Safeway or a Costco, but it’s bound to get you through the night (or two). We used the campground showers which were free, hot and had good water pressure. The bathrooms are tired, not very clean, and in need of some TLC. We enjoyed a meal at Purple Rose Mexican restaurant just a few doors to the south. The owner and staff of Cleone Campground are extraordinarily friendly and made us feel very welcome. I discovered a lovely 2.5 mi. walking loop: go down Ward to the beach, walk along the paved beachside path, then back up through the MacKerricher State Park road. NOTE: only partial hookups. No dump. There is water and 30amp electric in most all sites. Nearest dump is 4.7 mi. south at the Chevron in Fort Bragg for $5 *cash only*

Our site was surrounded by foliage making it very private. The restroom was close by and very clean and well maintained. There was a small store nearby which was well provisioned. The wifi was excellent, when it worked, but when brought to their attention it was rebooted. We biked from the campground to the coastal trail and then into town for lunch, (about five miles).
