The grounds are beautiful especially the back towards the river and the tent sites. There's a large open field and the sites are nice pull thrus. They play Close Encounters on a big screen every night which is pretty cool. Our biggest issue is the pricing and the policies aren't exactly inviting. We arrived early and they wanted to charge us for checking in an hour early (I think it was $10). They also charge $5 per child beyond one which I always think is just such an awful policy. Can you imagine charging per adult over 70 or something like that? People would have a fit. We begrudgingly paid. Also, to pick your site is another $20. The mini golf is pretty bush league and they charge for that too. Basically it just feels like every where you turn they are charging you for something. The $69/night turned quickly into over $100 with taxes and "extra kids" and such. For that reason we soured on the place and would probably stay at Belle Fourche next time (it was fully booked during our stay).

Very nice campground, very friendly staff. We did not go on the hay ride or watch movie, but thought that was a great treat especially for kids. Great place to walk our dog and the view is worth a million! WIFI was very good. We did not use the facilities other than laundry which was in very good condition.

Incredible location! It was so easy to access the National Monument. The site we stayed at had a front row seat to the Devil's Tower. It was a great spot for a morning cup of coffee. We enjoyed the extra amenities such as the hayride with wildlife viewing. The evening outdoor movie was so fun too!

That $94 included a "pick your own site" charge of $20, so I decided to choose one at the end of a row so we wouldn't have a neighbor on one side. That was a good call, since most of the campsites are crammed in quite tightly. We couldn't even set up our Clam shelter because we're too close to the next site.At least we have a nice big grassy lawn on the shady (afternoon) side of the trailer. On the other side about 10 feet away is our neighbor's black water hose, conveniently located near our picnic table. The picnic table could be covered by our tablecloth, the table itself is quite dirty and decrepit looking. The spot IS flat, there is a full hookup (water, electric, sewer), and the Wi-Fi signal is pretty strong even here in the north forty. At arrival, I was greeted by an unsmiling woman who did her job efficiently and got me on the way to my site quickly. C'mon, babe, is it really going to hurt you to smile? One of the positives about not having a shady spot is that we have a great view of Devils Tower, although I don't feel like sitting in the hot sun to watch it. After sunset it should be fantastic! About the amenities: yeah, I understand that everyone is having issues hiring people to work in this post-COVID era, but considering that the Campstool Cafe was supposed to be a "rockin place". From the website:"Campstool Cafe is proud to serve great food in the Western tradition from 8 am to 8 pm each day during summer season. Join us for a great meal with an incredible view and exceptional service. The Café features a unique, massive glass door with an up-close view of Devils Tower. Guests are invited to visit the Campstool Saloon for an evening drink. We welcome groups and bus tours to dine in our spacious dining room. Special menus are available."1) We got to the Campstool Cafe at 4 PM, right as it closed. The girl who worked there was extremely apologetic, saying they were only open between 11 and 4.2) Exceptional service? Well, not really.3) Campstool Saloon? Where? We could buy beer and wine (wine from the check-in area, beer from a cooler), but I'll be damned if I saw a "saloon" for an evening drink. 4) Groups and bus tours? Hell, they couldn't serve the people who were there due to short-staffing. 5) Special menus? Like what? Everything was written on whiteboards. Access is easy to this place, and the location can't be beat. I have to admit the site was very clean, and there's very little noise. Next time, I'll forgo the full hookup at this KOA and camp in the monument campground. At least there would be trees. There are trees near some of the sites in the older part of the park, but the newer area is a desert. I expected a lot more for $94.

Check-in went fine, but we did get a teensy bit confused trying to find our campsite -- there are loops within loops at the campground. Because we stayed so close to DT, we were able to head in after the crowds had left, things had quieted down, and the weather was cooler. Walked the 1.3-mile paved trail around the base of the tower. We were there in mid-July and everything was hot and dusty. Hook-ups were fine, and we were able to dump our black water at our site before leaving. We loved being so close to DT! It was amazing! We'd pay the extra fee for one of the premium-view sites again.

We reserved a full hook pull through, one night stay as we didn't wish to unhook. The site we were assigned was not long enough to accommodate. Front and back of camper stuck out into roadway.. Our sewer and water hooks are in rear. Their hook ups were in middle of the site. Sewer hose would not reach so we couldn't use the sewer. Luckily we had a 30 amp extension or the electric wouldn't have reached either. The picnic table was bowed so we couldn't eat or play games outside. Do not recommend.

Great views of the tower, numerous shade options, working hookups. Our power actually had the polarity reversed, but it worked fine. The dump station had a somewhat odd placement requiring me to drive around reverse of the campsite order to get on the right side, but that seems somewhat usual apparently. Also during rain the dump site was flooded, so make sure you have good gloves! It still worked under the flood waters. Store was interesting with some great items to pickup, ice cream, and decent food, though during the uptick of delta covid-19 in Wyoming nobody was wearing masks or distancing. 2 great playgrounds for the kids!

All the rest areas and national forest campgrounds have been closed due to budget cuts and the pandemic. They had availability. The price was ridiculous, but I just wanted a good night's sleep. I didn't even get that. People kept walking through my campsite, talking, which led my dogs to bark. There are no trees, or logs, or any other kind of useful landscaping that would delineate or ornament the sites. It's a big open field. At least the tent campers have beautiful trees! Pull through spots were smaller than most of the back in and tent sites.Worse yet, there's poop everywhere. I don't know what animals, but they're at least three different types. I can keep my dogs away from deer and/or rabbit poop, but there was a much larger animal (probably other dogs in the campground) that hadn't been picked up after. It was absolutely disgusting that my site, which is right next to the dog run, wasn't even as clean as the dog run itself.ATT was screaming, though.

They also do not let you have camp fires in the Choice Spots. We were told at check in that there will be community camp fire near our section. Neither night did that happen. Also they usually have hayrides at a KOA. This is the first KOA that we have stayed at that charged $6.00 per person for the hayride, because they take you through land owned by the campgrounds with animals on it. They do show Close Encounters Of the Third Kind every night as parts of the film were done on the site where the camp grounds now stands. Great place for one night stop to see Devil's Tower.

Arrival and check in was a quick (5 min) affair with plenty of parking for big rigs. The camp store is well stocked and sells beer, wine, and liquor as well. The bathroom and shower facilities are clean and in good repair. The only negative is that it was a little dusty as people drove through, but that's true of a lot of campgrounds. That is outweighed by a really cool feature of this KOA. They show Close Encounters of the Third Kind on the outdoor theater, every night. I hate when people deduct stars due to price when you know what the place costs going into it. This is the only place to stay when visiting Devils Tower unless you stay within the monument borders at a campground with no hookups. Because of that, they could offer a subpar establishment -- but they don't. The sites and hookups are good for the 1-2 nights a person might stay here. The views of the tower from pretty much anywhere in the campground are amazing! We didn't have a view right out our window thanks to a tree, but boy were we happy to have that tree because of how hot it was! We didn't use the restrooms or showers, so I can't comment on that, but they have a nice store onsite with a cafe. I sat by the pool for a little bit, but it's freezing cold, so just put my legs in. As people have mentioned, they show Close Encounters of the Third Kind every night because it was filmed there. The campground is literally yards from the entrance to the national monument, affording you the opportunity to visit the monument before the crowds show up. I arrived at the monument at 7:45am (it's open 24 hours) and walked the 1.3-mile trail around the tower and only saw three other groups. There is not much in the area except for a gas station a 10-minute drive up the road in Hulett. Though I don't know why we'd ever visit Devils Tower again after seeing once, we would stay here again if we're ever in the area. My only complaint is that I wish they would mowed the lawn. Long grass can make an otherwise decent place look shabby.

Our spot had clean hook ups.Definitely take advantage of the hay rides they do that take you all around the land near the park to see all of the wildlife (you might even luck out and get to see buffalo right near the gate across the street) then watch the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind they have showing behind the office every night. It's a KOA right at the entrance of a national monument. Don't expect too much and prepare by having food in your rv to cook because there aren't any stores nearby.

However, it was a grass site and badly pitted from RV stabilizers. Mike twisted his ankle in one, and my 19 month old took a bad tumble in another. The sewer pipe sat up on an embankment which put it higher than our black/gray tank valve so we couldn't dump. When I asked the office about getting another site, they informed me they were booked up. I asked about a discount because we couldn't use the sewer hookup (most sites were just water/electric), but they refused to refund the difference. The laundry facility near our site had two broken machines, and the machines were small, running $2 for each. The restaurant on location is dangerously overpriced. For two small burgers, 4 fountain drinks (no free refills apparently), and an basket of cheese sticks, we paid over $45. Each night they show Close Encounters of the Third Kind just outside the restaurant facing Devil's Tower on a small 40 inch TV. There's also hayrides, but the cost is $6 per person, and they were going to charge for our two under two as well. Overall, not impressed with this KOA, and probably won't stay at another KOA again.

This KOA has a great kid friendly pool (which we didn't swim in as we were totally into exploring the park), a very well stocked camp store, friendly and informative staff and a small diner whose staff is a tad exasperated by tourists freaking out over the Close Encounters of the Third Kind pinball machine. They get especially twitchy (but keep their smiles on) around closing time at 9pm so come early.I would avoid this place during Sturgis week as it most probably goes completely bonkers- the tent sites are not private in any way. We spotted cabins near a small stream but they looked rather small inside. The area is stunning and you will be very happy booking any site here. The women's bathroom had standing water on the floor and dirty stalls but other than that the campground is well cared for. Also at night they turn on some noisy sprinklers, make sure you don't set up near a sprinkler as they reach really far into the field. The campground is very easy to spot from the highway and literally right next to the park. I highly recommend it.

You are right at the base in this vey nice family run KOA. Lots of prime space, many amenities, very friendly service and located just outside the gate into the Park.Every late afternoon when we were there a next door rancher let his herd of goats with bells on run along a fenced area next to the C/G to feed and to keep the weeds down. Quite entertaining to watch and something out of the ordinary.Hiking, rock climbing and wildlife watching in the Park.
