  • Just OK. Dump station $15 and blocked by a camper. OK laundry, not the greatest shower.

The views to the east and west were nice. There was a nice sunset. It is a pretty scruffy place with quite a few permanent residents. The laundry area was nice. The shower had been remodeled with corrugated roofing for walls but it wasn't cleaned the two times I used it-wear your flip flops! It could use some clothes hooks too. We dumped when we got there and were able to use one of the full hookup sites, as the dump station was basically blocked by what appeared to be a permanent camper. Chris is who answers the phone but most the work was done by Sonny. He filled our LP tank when we came back a week later. I think it's the only propane in town. We hiked at Arnett Canyon and the boondocking out there looked nice-take Panther Dr. to Telegraph Canyon Rd. to find it. We ended up spending two weeks at Oak Flat Campground up past Queen Creek Canyon, see my review. Sonny said I could take some lemons and grapefruit. They were very good.

  • Wonderful quiet overnight with great views

Site number: Dry camp with Harvest Host

We stayed as a Harvest Host guest. They require a $20 purchase at Porters Saloon, which the family owns. Excellent food, the BLT & homemade potato salad was excellent. They have outdoor seating if warmer. We were also able to top off our propane tank before leaving. Huge plus! Horses & a donkey on-site make a fun atmosphere. I called ahead and talked with the owner who quoted a rate of $20/night for dry camping. Sonny the camp host asked for $30 - for a dry camp spot! Sonny the camp host asked for $30 - for a dry camp spot! I ended up paying $20 but didn't appreciate their trying to cheat me. The subject of the February 2021 Texas cold snap came up and that led Sonny into a rant about the border wall and the XL pipeline. We don't camp for politics. We're not very political and aren't looking for campgrounds to push their political beliefs on us. The dry camp area is a flat field. It's pretty level. It's not a very pretty area. There are some interesting old cars at Box 8 but there are also junkers. There is a dump station. It used the same hose for fresh water as you use to rinse the waste hose. There's another water tap of you don't want to take a chance with the hose at the dump station. We didn't use the bathrooms or the laundry.
