This was the last night of a 6 week road trip, we had planned to stay at the public parking area near Calache Lake, but with temps reaching 104 (still 95* as of this writing at 8:00 PM) we opted for a place with 30 amp service to run our A/C, so glad we did! We think this used to be a KOA that has run down just a bit. Called ahead and they had plenty of space. Grabbed a pull through with full services, had a great view of the river and the cows in the field across the street with I-90 in the distance. A few big trucks rolled by on the frontage road that were quite noisy, but with the A/C running I am sure we won't even notice them. Our first spot we checked the electric and the polarity was green and red, so called the manager back and asked if we could move to the site next to us and she agreed no problem. Some nice grass and a fire ring (which we did not use) and a really pleasant evening. Surprisingly this was very sparsely populated unlike some of the parks we saw along the way, but as it was a mid week stay not so busy. On Gorge Amphitheater events this place can be a zoo. Due to the Covid experience the store was closed, but the manager came down to check us in. Really glad we stayed here in this heat and we would come back here in a heartbeat! Felt safe and open. Verizon coverage jumped from 1 to 5 bars and back again so rating it as a 3

I like it here I would move here if I could. Well organized the rv slots have a lot of room. Power and water available. View or mtns and a lake. Near a gas station and store. So peaceful.

But from the git go, I had kind of a bad impression. We'd never stayed here, opting for the nice state park on the other (south side of I-90) instead. But one of the group we were with didn't have an rv and this place also has cabins so we booked here to accommodate them. When making the reservation, what ever you send them up front, either the $15 or the full amount, it's non-refundable... no matter how far in advance you book or cancel. I'm not sure how many other campgrounds do this type of thing, but it's the first time I can remember it being the case. If you cancel on short notice, you typically lose one night at worst, but here if you were foolish enough to pay for the whole stay in advance (like we normally do), you would lose the whole amount. We arrived at 1p. Our sites were empty and ready for us, but they insisted that we needed to either sit in the parking lot till 3p (the official check in time) or pay them an additional $15 per site for "early" check in? We've never had any campground do this in the past. And I know it's sometimes part of their rules that they can, but none have, certainly not when you are just a couple hours early. And again, I know it's tough with the Gorge closed down for the summer, but wouldn't you want to be flexible with the customers you do have? rather than enforcing every rule and sort of gouging? And finally, the cabin that one of our group booked was in pretty poor condition and probably shouldn't have been offered up for rent. They told us that the had three rental houses and that 2 had been recently remodeled, that this one was the last to be done, but there were wires sticking up through the floor capped with masking tape, exposed yellow expando-foam to thwart rodents and dead bugs in at least one of the beds (we didn't check the others), torn and loose carpet. The campground did agree to refund the amount paid in this case.I simply wanted to relay our experience with this campground and I realize yours may be different. The spots are fine, a little close together but we've seen worse. Seems like the spots on the lower, north end of the campground, which included the pull throughs are the more attractive and more sheltered from the wind.

  • Nothing fancy, but nice overnight stay. Accommodating staff. Not much around.

We stayed overnight in July 2018. Price reflects Passport America. Pull thru site with 30amp FHU and no wifi. 4 bars Verizon LTE. Easy in and out, and not crowded. Camp store onsite, but nothing much around town.Called in advance to make sure there was room. Called again around 4pm to let them know we would be in around 8pm. Manager was very accommodating. We pulled into the parking area in front of the store and called again as we had been instructed. Manager met us at the store for check in. RV area is a little further past the store, but easily accessible.Site was dirt/grass and slightly unlevel. Only a few other rigs around and we were told to pick a spot, so we had a choice for space, but if the row was full, it would be tight quarters. Good view of the lake, and the bugs, but that’s what you get near water! We did not use any of the facilities. Signs nearby for a petrified forest. Would have checked it out if in the area longer.

Had to make an emergency stop because of a minor meltdown, and I wish we’d stayed on the road for the next truck stop parking lot. Not much to like here. No WiFi, low signal strength, long walk to the bathrooms (which had bird feces scattered around the showers and floors—bring ya flipflops if you don't have them already). No other amenities. I’d have paid $15 and gotten on with it, but $35–with an attempted upsell for spots closer to the river—is way too much for this experience.

I agree the park needs to have signs on where to go. Once we found it we were like “duh” but had originally gone into the rv parking. Office is part of motel and store sign. Anyway with that said, nice and peaceful and sites level. I believe they only have 30 amp but didn’t need more this time. Office is part of motel and store sign. Anyway with that said, nice and peaceful and sites level. I believe they only have 30 amp but didn’t need more this time. Grassy areas with tables and fire rings. Not many there with us otherwise might be tight sites. WiFi in office only. Also managed to get satellite reception. Columbia River a short walk away otherwise nothing to do or see but there is a dam about ten miles south that we plan on visiting.

They could use better office signage! Pretty decent site with 30 Amp full hookups. Good shade trees, fire ring and picnic bench. About 1/2 mile off I-90. Unless you are into water sports, there's not a lot here. But a great 1 night stay over enroute to destination. Check in lady was very friendly and accommodating.
