Right next to Oceana Naval Air Station, home of a few F-18 fighter jet squadrons, this campground is very convenient if you can't get into any of the several military RV parks around. This is a Navy town so expect some noise, even at the beach! This campground has over 1400 sites of various types and prices. It also has cabins and tent spaces. We stayed in the modest part with gravel/grass site but the 'beverly hills' sites are concrete pads with manicured lawn between. There are also a few grass sites and of course storage for those needing to drop RV's off. Many bathhouses, 3 pools, lots of playground equipment for kids, mini golf to name a few things. Bikes & golf carts are for rent; paved bike path borders the main route outside the camp. Lots to do all around Virginia Beach, including Aquarium, Japanese Garden & of course the military bases.

We have been noticing the decline in the park in the past couple of years. It appears as if management does not want or care to take care of the park or their customers. In our most recent stay we noticed the following issues. First - the amount of thefts occurring in the park. There is no security in the park so many people are having bikes or coolers stolen in the day time and at night.Second - the infrastructure is not being repair. The roads have many holes in them that do not get filled it. This results in a lot of mud when it rains and also large potholes for your trailer to go through. While we were there, our site lost electric. We called the office and they send out a maintenance man to look at it. He came out and looked at it and left. After 3 hours, we went back to the office to find out the status and was told that they would not be able to fix it for a few days. They offered to move us. If we had not went up to the office, we would not have found out anything.Third - For people with long term stays, you have to move at least once a month. Sometimes - only across the road. In one month, we had to move three times!Fourth - golf carts. A lot of really young children driving the cart with no parent in the golf carts. In addition, many people ride around on their golf carts with music so loud that it shakes your windows as they pass.Fifth - dogs running around with no leads or leases in the park. Although the park has rules about dogs, people do not follow them and the park does not do anything about it.Sixth - police activity - While we were there ( 6 months) the police were at the park at least weekly due to some situation in the park - fist fights, rapes, assaults and etc. Over all, the park is a large park where there should be security driving through the park occasionally. No one from the park ever goes through the park. This allows everyone to do anything they like. This park was a great park and it is sad to see how it has turned.

It's a great family campground with lots of handy amenities like laundry, several nice pools, and playgrounds. They offer several way to get to the beach which is about 2 miles away, including: free parking lot near the beach, free campground operated shuttle, or bike to beach. I had a perfectly pleasant stay in my self contained camper and didn't need the public bathhouses. My family, however, used the public bathhouses which were FILTHY. Hair everywhere, dirty, and not a cleaning person in sight. The cabin floors were dirty and one cabin had roaches. The pools seem to be well maintained and clean. So if you bring your own self contained rig, It is a great stay. If you are looking to camp in a tent or their cabins, beware the showers.

Wide variety of site types. Ours was a PT FHU site with dirt, grass and a bit of gravel. Got big puddles after a rain. There are concrete sites that cost more. Place really filled up on Thursday. The more people the noisier it got and air force jets fly by day and night. Should really add gravel to more of the sites to improve drainage.

Not far from the beach and there is a trolly stop in the campground to take you to the beach so you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for parking. There are not many full service camping options in the area. It is either Holiday Travl Park or the KOA across the street. Both parks have not very spacious sites and unless you are paying for a super site, the sites can be difficult to maneuver for a big rig. The park is not far from Oceana Naval Air Station, so be prepared to hear the sounds of freedom. We had just enough space to fit our fifth wheel and the truck had to be parked in the site or moved to an overflow lot a distance away. That meant there was about enough room on the site to have a broken down picnic table. Wifi is spotty and trees prevent many sites from getting satellite. There aren’t fire rings at the sites and no real place to have fire anyway. Trees were close and made parking an adventure. We also experienced several rainy days with nothing but mud on our site. Drainage isn’t the best. They do pick up trash throughout the day at your site but squirrels are likely to pull your trash apart and distribute before the pick up occurs. We finally moved to a super site for the last few days of our stay and were much happier. Super sites are long paved pull throughs with manicured lawn. Trees are trimmed in that section and the pool is nearby.

This Park is in the Heart of Virginia Beach and has a great parking lot on the ocean front for its visitors, which will save you $$$. If you are looking for a relaxing park this is not it. Lots going on and people love their golf carts and music. It has a reputation of being a big party on the weekends and from what we saw that is true. Even though people liked to party we did not find it too loud, rowdy, or disruptive. In fact we enjoyed walking around at night, enjoying all the lights, sights, and sounds. We stayed through Labor Day and while it was packed, everyone seemed to get along and had a great time. During the week the park was quite and rarely did you hear a noise after 9pm. Three of the four pools were open and really nice. The mini golf course was well kept and for $3.00 a person well worth it. The showers were for the most part clean and in good repair, except for on the really busy weekends. The laundry is big and reasonably priced and we never had to wait for a machine. The camp store was also really well stocked and had everything you could need including alcohol. While the Cafe was closed, it did open on Friday and Saturday to serve ice cream. Staff was helpful and friendly helping us move to a bigger site when the one we were assigned proved to be too small. If you use Verizon we had only had two bars which was not enough for me to work on. Our AT&T was stronger at 4 bars and was our go to. One item that surprised us was that they did not have fire pits on site. You had to rent them. If you didn't want to rent one it was fine to burn a fire on the ground anywhere you wanted on your site.

The sites are not maintained: little to no gravel in the sites; weeds, not grass, that is not cut; trash left in sites to include mine; worn picnic tables; and lots of mud when it rains. I complained to the manager and all they’ve done in 3 days is to put a better picnic table in my site. As soon as the payment posts to AMEX, I will be filing a claim to recoup some of my money due to poor conditions and service.

The specific tent sites were partially flooded out so we drove around looking for the perfect spot and we found it in 1309 which is a corner spot. There was a ditch behind the campsites throughout that section that seems like it collects rainwater so that it doesn't pool in the sites. The bathhouse was not open in that section so we had to walk a ways to get to an open one but it was worth it for the privacy. The planes are extremely loud but we loved hearing and watching them. We got to see several oppossums around our site as well as a pack of coyotes. Firewood was around $5 a bundle but there were tons of downed trees and branches around our site I guess probably because it was a closed section. There are no fire rings, you just make your own on the ground. We didn't park at the hotel lot by the beach but chose to pay to park at 31 Ocean parking garage since it was closer to the heart of the boardwalk. It was very nice of the front office to let us stay several hours beyond checkout time. We absolutely loved our stay here and would definitely come back again. It was so peaceful we felt like we were the only ones in the whole park!

Our kids weren’t bored. Ever. The bike path to the beach is flat and fairly easy to follow. It’s 3 miles one way, but we’ll worth the exercise! Our youngest is still on training wheels and only got a little sideways right in the park where you can see the roots under the paved pathway. There are different areas in the campground, offering varied levels of amenities, site spacing, paved vs. gravel pads (and cost). WIFI was good, but we were located close to office. Laundry was excellent. Overall park condition was well-used, but acceptable. The management is very friendly and helpful. This would be a great place to let the kids run wild in the summer. Lots of Navy jet fighter noise from Oceana air station nearby (consider it the sound of freedom and enjoy the air show). Overall, we think it was a good stay. Largest negative was the high price. While in the area I chose this place because of its convenient location and because the First Landing State Park was closed for winter. The acreage of this place is impressive. They offer every campsite option you could imagine including tent spots and cabin rentals. I chose a basic, dirt, pull thru spot with water/electric/sewer and picnic table for $35/night (off season rate). They offered a Good Sam discount which I appreciated. If you spend a few extra bucks for cable hookup they put you in a nicer area with concrete pads and grass. The ammenities are plentiful including multiple swimming pools, an excellent off leash dog park,mini-golf, propane refill and a laundromat. My experience was unremarkable but adequate. I was excited to try out the shower house after seeing some very nice pictures on their website. Much to my chagrin, it was a filthy wasteland that hadn't seen the likes of a sponge or mop in weeks. One last thing you should know... The Oceana jet air base is right next door so be prepared for some very loud, Top Gun shenanigans overhead throughout the day.
