This is a nice campground with level spots and a nice playground for kids. The pond looked a little funky with a huge dirt mound or what looked like a dirt mound right next to it. Good bathrooms and laundry. Campground was quiet and sites were decently spaced apart.Pretty good Thai food at Thai Staunton if you like Asian food.

I ended up bouncing around since I wasn’t sure how long I’d be staying in the campground and being in the fall camping season there was a lot of activity so I had to grab what was available. Sites in the hilltop location (66) are the best in my opinion since it has a better view and a little bit more remote. Sites along the lake (25) are a bit tight to get in and out. I was glad there were no campers when I moved to this site so that I had more space to back in. Be careful driving through this area as I almost hit a campers awning that was hanging into the road. Sites 99 & 101 located in the front have plenty of space and easy to get in and out. Site 50 is a bit exposed being located close to the front and surrounded by roads and there’s no cable if that matters to folks. I did use the laundry facility at the high top which was fine. Only 1 dryer was working. No complaints overall. I didn’t use any of the restrooms so I can’t comment on those. Nice dog park area.

We would stay here again only if we needed a place to stay but would not seek out this CG as a place to relax and spend several days. We received a 10% military discount. The campground is HUGE with all the amenities: dog park, full-sized swimming pool, children’s playground, large open fields for play, etc. The CG is organized, seems well-maintained and was run by a management company. The staff was friendly, efficient and appeared to be keeping a close eye on the CG. The downside of our stay was the close proximity of all the campsites. There was a camper or tent on every square inch in the CG. We have never seen such a crammed-together mass of humanity in a campground – ever. This CG is big-rig friendly but we could see that some of the roads might be tight for bigger rigs. This CG seems to be a “happening spot” for families or large groups wanting to camp together, which was great. The staff treated the gravel road at night to keep the dust to a minimum during the day. The bathhouse was in the center of the CG; it contained laundry and bath facilities. The showers were generally pretty clean, as were the toilets. This was surprising given the number of people at the campground while we were there. I would have expected that the bathhouse would have been cleaned overnight because of the heavy daytime use. Given the huge number of campers there, the size of the facilities didn’t seem to be large enough to handle that size crowd. We had decent Verizon coverage while at the CG (2-3 bars).

The only complaint is the shower heads are mounted extremely low, if you are 5' 5 you are probably good, the shower stalls are very small. The wifi is very good.

The sites were level, well-maintained and easily accessed. The pool was closed due to COVID restrictions, but that didn’t affect my experience. A large pond is at the center of the property as well as numerous run-offs where you can constantly see ducks playing, especially fun for kids to watch. Fishing is allowed in the pond and many people had success in catching trout and bass. Staff were receptive and prompt with any requests. Honey bucket service offered with 24 hr advance notice as well as late check-in/out options. Large playground and fenced-in dog park, both of which where very clean. I travel with two dogs and they both loved it. After around 10pm the campground is peaceful and not loud at all. Fire pits and picnic tables provided at each site, some of which are uniquely placed due to the water run-offs throughout the grounds. I didn’t personally use the bathrooms, but on a walk-through they appeared clean. Dump station was easily accessible at the center of the grounds on a roundabout. Location is proximal to some great vineyards/ breweries and the center of town. It’s about a 20-25 min drive to access Shenandoah Natl Park/ Skyline drive or Blue Ridge Parkway. One thing of note: all of the pull-through sites for larger rigs appeared to be in a separate area away from the majority of the sites. It seemed as though this would detract from the overall experience but if you’re traveling in a rig large enough to need a pull-through, I can’t imagine you’re straying away from it for too much. Would definitely stay here again.

They truly set the bar for all others. There are just too many positives about this place and the people that work here for one review to fully describe it. In looking at the other reviews we can simply echo all of the great things everyone has said. They have a scenic park, fishing pond, great, super clean facilities, good wifi, plenty of activities in the park,... but to be clear the owner and ALL of the people that work at this campground are the secret sauce on this place. Everyone was so personable and really took an interest in our stay and how they could make us feel more at home. Thanks Andy, Tammy, Pam, Keith, Angie, James and Mitch for your help just to name a few that interacted with us personally during our stay. The best way to describe it is that the staff takes ownership of the place and really cares about your experience. We ran into countless “daily random acts of kindness” from everyone that worked there. We originally saw the positive reviews, planned to stop by for just one night and ended up calling this campground home for over a month! It ended up serving as an amazing home base for site-seeing to historic Monticello, Staunton, Lexington, Harrisonburg, and hikes in the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge Parkway.Way to go Walnut Hills, you’ve set the bar high for all other campgrounds!

The campground roads are a little tight with a large rig, but with care are negotiable. The campground is close to the interstate, but we didn’t notice any truck noise on either visit. The campground very well taken care of. The staff was friendly and helpful. They had a “corn maze” set up with snow fence near the pond. On both visits the campground was nearly full, but still quiet. They advertise an early check in, but I didn’t see a note about the late check out. If the site you are in is available, late check out is 6pm for a $10 fee. My wife HAD to visit the Walton Mountain museum on the way north. It was really nice to leave the camper on the site until we got back from the museum.

They have a nicely stock store with firewood bundles at $6.50 for a large bundle of good wood. For kids there is a very nice playground, they have a good disk golf course and a dog park as well. Our site, number 31, backed up to the pond with a beautiful view of the entire pond and surrounding hills beyond. The site was spacious with a fire pit and a picnic table and room for four chair ( or more) for sitting around and enjoying the natural beauty of the park. The campground is very easy to reach right off Interstate 81 near Staunton, VA. We went into town to do a little site seeing and were pleasantly surprised that they closed a main street to traffic so that the restaurants had ample outdoor seating. WiFi was good withing the park as was the Verizon cell service. Highly recommend this wonderful campground.

The place goes on and on. There is a lovely pond for fishing, frisbee golf, places to walk through the grounds, a nice dog park and a nice little store. We stayed in a pull through site at the front of the campground, which was the least picturesque, but still very nice. We had 50amp and water. A honey wagon will come and pump you out for $20. That's a great deal. I could do my laundry in my rig, no laundry mat! I couldn't have done it in the laundry mat for $20. We needed a new shower head while there and found it in the little store there. It is a nice quiet park, friendly staff. The internet worked fine with our own WIFI and booster. My husband works full time from the RV and he had no problems. There are stores and restaurants not far away. We would stay here again. I would add that the dump station is tricky in a big rig. We are in a 38 foot class A. The dump station is on an awkward hill, and we had to block traffic because of the tight area. Not a deal breaker.

We happened to find Walnut Hill through this site and as soon as we got set up, we were sad that we were only there for the one night. Our pull-through site overlooked rolling green hills dotted with black cows; the small pond and tree-lined roads added to the peaceful scenery. Our area of the park was rather full, but everyone was very quiet with the only noises the slightest hint of the Interstate in the distance and the occasional "thunk" on the top of our RV from falling walnuts. Both AT&T and Verizon signals were usable for work and streaming unboosted. We did not need any of the provided amenities, but we enjoyed the wide open areas to walk our dogs (and there is also a fenced dog park that we didn't use). It is obvious that this family-run park is well loved and cared for and we look forward to one day returning for a longer visit.

This is such a tranquil place, and the staff is second to none in helpfulness, professionalism, and thoughtfulness. The spots are varied in size and amenities, ranging from tent-only to full hook-ups. Cable TV and WiFi are provided at most spots. Can't rate the cable TV service because it's 2020 and who watches "TV" any more. But the WiFi was barely adequate for full-timers. It would drop in and out frequently, causing my VPN to drop require a re-connect. There's a couple of truck stops 4 miles down the road for gas, diesel, and propane. (There's propane on-site at the campground, but my rig was too big to jockey into the spot for a fill.) There is a town 5 miles down the road the other way, for shopping, fast-food, hardware, etc. The amenities here are first-rate, and the landscape is maintained to a very high level. All day, every day, someone is tending to the lawns, trees, etc. I highly recommend this campground and look forward to my next visit.

Really enjoyed our many chats.Right off 81, put this campground on your number 1 choice as a stopover or just to chill out for a few days or a week or a month...During Virginia's COVID-19 lockdown, the Campground is offering excellent pricing options.

While I was checking in the owner came up and asked if that was my camper. I said yes, he said no parking on grass! I just had arrived and didn't know it was an issue. My wife saw a man, who at the time, she didn't know was the owner and said he walked out of office then looked at my camper and went running back inside. I then told her what transpired, she said she wondered why he ran back in. The owner showed no friendliness as you would expect from an owner. The sites are small for big rigs unless on top of hill or at entrance away from everything. The option to park your tow vehicle was in the visitor parking. Very inconvenient. I will not stay here again. If it wasn't for loosing money I would have left immediately. The fire ring was so close to the camper it was u usable. The bath houses are kept very clean. The owner needs some social skills or get out of the business he is in. The rest of the staff are very nice. He could learn from them.

Interior roads and sites are gravel and your vehicles will get dirty. Plus, it’s very dusty from most people driving way too fast. This park has the strangest traffic pattern to move around the campground. We were assigned a site up near the front entrance but to get to it you have to weave around the park first. Same thing when you leave. It is a long distance on narrow roads to get to the sites up on the hill. The dump station is awkwardly placed. A large RV (like ours) would need to jockey around to get in position and then back up to avoid going down a one-way street. Probably explains why they have a honey wagon. Luckily, we didn’t need to use the bathrooms but if you did and are parked in the front section, it is a long walk. Our site was a long but narrow pull thru. The sites are very close together. In fact, too close together for the fire pits. Our neighbor’s pit was right under our bedroom window. Directv was only able to pick up a handful of channels due to trees. However, the cable offered the best picture quality we’ve ever had in 7 years of travel although there are not a lot of channels . The WII FI worked pretty well until the park filled up then it was useless. Verizon was 4g 3 bars so we were able to use our hot spots. Being in the front section, we were close to the road but it quieted down at night. You can hear traffic from I-81 off in the distance. It is definitely a place for the weekend warriors! Not sure if we would return or not. Very pricey for just having water and electric and then having to pay for the honey wagon.

I settled on this KOA since it was so close to the highway and I could have an option to just use electric hookup to keep cost down. The staff person in the office was great, and chose a perfect spot for us, and it was discounted since we were not allowed to use water hookup here. (due to cold temps). We had plenty of water in our fresh water tank, so that was not an issue. Plus, we were near the bath/shower facility which was immaculate. We were next to the lake and the only camper in this part of the campground. It was just us and the ducks! We even had cable hookup and the best WiFi I've ever experienced in an RV park. We were having trouble getting a good TV picture with the cable and the maintenance guy came right away to help. Turns out it was probably our cable, but we still managed a good enough picture to watch some soccer!! The setting was not your usual KOA - more country feel and most sites had some room between them. I imagine they do a good business in the summer with their proximity to the Shenandoah's.

Level gravel site with small grass area. Nice trees but our satellite hooked up just fine. Several activities for kids, dog walking area, showers and laundry. Easy access dump station. Crawl over the speed bump after you check in - it's a doozy!

So from the first conversation, we liked this place! Not everyone is super receptive when you say you will be there in less than an hour (go figure). What was so special was that they said they had a prime spot for us on the lake! Upon arrival, they confirmed we had a really great site. We've always wanted to back up to a lake, so this was our first time...and last until we return! What we loved: The staff was the best ever. Very positive and helpful. The campground is just beautiful. It's small and it really didn't look like any place was bad. Very well designed. Quiet and serene. The laundry room was convenient and adequate. WIFI at our site. There was a nice fenced in Bark Park that had a happy dog prancing in it. The drive there was just so beautiful, but there are two ways to get there. GPS did fine. We love to hike so there was fabulous hiking not too far away. We also attend church on Sundays, so we were happy there was a warm welcoming one not too far away. Nothing they could do to make it better or negative, except being a KOA, the price is always a bit higher than other resorts. We had KOA points so it wasn't too much for us. But whatever the price, we loved it and look forward to returning.
