We have stayed here twice in the spring (pre-season). It was great stays both times. The campground was clean including the bathrooms. Staff was very nice.

The amenities have the potential to make this campground great, but with staff that have little ambition or oversight it isn't going to happen anytime soon. Rustic cabin. Great alternative to a tent. Bathouses- filthy. Shut down during busy hours. More frequent cleaning needed during covid. Snack Shack- staff are young and could careless about customer service. Pool- closes if there's a storm 100 miles away and the sky is clear and blue in cape Charles. Whatever trash visitors leave is still there the next day, overflowing trash cans, empty bottles, food wrappers everywhere. A few people are asked about covid symptoms and you are told to wipe your own chairs down when you enter , and I'm good with this. WOULDNT you emptyvall trash, clean up around pool and spray down chairs and pool deck at night? So when campers arrived in the morning it presented clean? Kids on bicycles after dark, loud fast golf carts at all hours of the night. I would only camp here if I brought my. Camper next time related to the filthy restrooms.
Great family campground with some downsides

We stayed just before the state went to phase 3 so the pool was still closed but most other things were available. Nice, clean gravel sites but somewhat tight. We’ve got a bigger rig (~43’) and filled the site end to end...if you’re in a similar size rig expect to park in the overflow areas. The premium spots are well worth the added $$, they’re right on the water and have great views. One oddity was that they sell firewood but the sites don’t have fire rings, several neighbors were having fires right on the gravel.
Logistically Flawed... with a great view

There’s lots of activities, pools, and places to run a dog around. Our site had a great view and was right on the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot to camp... though we paid handsomely for it. Our complaints were mostly related to our late check-in. The website crashed every time we attempted to pay the remainder of our bill and we left 3 voicemails that went unanswered. After rolling in at 4am, an employee knocked on our trailer at 8am telling us to go to the Welcome Center to pay. This seemed inappropriate as we’d made many attempts to settle our bill and they had our credit card on file and could have just charged that. Additionally, our site did not have a sewer hookup, which was demarcated on the map but not reflected in the price of the site. In summary, this is a great campsite but not if you’re a late check-in or if you need to call ahead for any information.

That's fine. Not really a great camping experience but fine for a night. This would be a great place to stay with a bunch of kids or for a family reunion - especially during the summer when the pools are open - and even off-season there were kids riding bikes everywhere. That's a somewhat different experience than what we are looking for, but this was fine for a one-night stop on our way through the area. The bathhouses were a little far from the tent section (which seems odd as they are more likely used by tent campers) but were otherwise great. Large, clean, great showers.
Very nice, quiet, inexpensive offseason camping.

It was abnormally cold, even for December, so there were only a handful of RVs in the whole place. The staff in the office was very friendly and helpful. Camp was muddy, as it had recently rained, but in good shape other than that. Water had been shut off for the season, but one bathhouse remained open. It was heated and had great hot water, very clean. There were piers one could walk out on and fish from, multiple dog walk areas, outstanding wifi, and beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay and shore birds flying around the camp. $17 per night in the offseason. Can't beat that.
