It’s fine for an overnight or two, but probably not much longer. It is mostly dirt with a little gravel and very dusty. The sites are long enough for big rigs and they have 50 amp FHU which is great. There are not amenities to speak of except for laundry and restrooms. The main reason we wouldn’t stay here again is because of all of the spars (sharp spiny burs) all over the ground which has made this a difficult place for our dogs, not to mention painful. Pull throughs short hook ups are towards the center or closer to the front of the sight. If you have dogs there are a lot of sand spurs puncture vine thorns not dog friendly. The dog park is full of them. We stayed here in a 26” travel trailer and will look elsewhere next time.

Second time stopping here on our drive through west Texas. Big sites, mostly level, pull through. We don’t even unhook since it’s just a place to sleep. The highway and train tracks are not far but we’re never bothered by any noise. Very clean bathrooms! And strong WiFi.

Pulled in late with no reservation, used their convenient outdoor checkin system. Heard one train go by but otherwise pretty quiet for the proximity to the freeway. Met the owners in the morning as we were packing up to leave, very nice people. Would definitely stay again.

This should only be used as an evening stopover when traveling I-10. It is horrendously noisy with the traffic on I-10 and the trains that pass by blowing their horns. It's cheap though, and perhaps the best option out there in west Texas.

There is some freeway noise and a train track nearby. There must be train silence from midnight to 7am since the train did not blow its horn during that time, so you can get a good 7 hours sleep. Giving it a 4 star for the little bit of noise and that they do have goat head weeds that are very sharp and get stuck in your shoes, so just be aware of that. Would stay here again.

Moises greeted me upon arrival and we walked to the office so I could check-in. He asked for my name and then began writing it in a large book. It immediately became clear that there was no record of my reservation. This was quite surprising given that I had called 2 months earlier to make one! Luckily there were plenty of spaces available. Moises had mentioned that they bought the park recently so perhaps they are just learning the ropes. He has added a nice dog park and planted quite a few trees. We stayed in dirt pull-through full hookup site #41 and it was level. Good water pressure and the 50+ cable channels were nice. At first the free wifi was slow but on our last day it suddenly became blazingly fast. It turns out that a fiber wifi system upgrade was completed on our checkout date, so this should bode well for future guests. My AT&T phone had 2 bars and the hotspot wifi worked ok. Park bathrooms and private showers were super clean. Office has books so we donated a few of ours for others to enjoy. The McDonald Observatory and Guadalupe Mountains National Park are about an hour away from this park. We visited both during our stay and they were awesome. Warning: loud trains blow past this place 24 hours a day so make sure to bring your earplugs!

The train that comes through is super close and blew its horn twice in the night. Lots of freeway noise. But it is a very clean and easy on/off RV park for an inexpensive overnight during a long haul across the state. They accepted Good Sam and gave a small discount. WiFi and cable worked too, which was a plus.

We called in advance and were told they had plenty of sites available, and they did. The park has two sections and the one "across the street" had plenty of room for our rig and the car on the dolly. WiFi was a little weak but workable for us. Everything looked clean and in order.

The gentleman at the office simply wrote down our name and phone number in a guest book, took our payment (he honored our Good Sam membership based on just my word that we had one), gave me a very basic map (no individual sites were on the map), and told us we could take any of the pull-through spots across the road (a small access road splits the campground in two). So it worked out, but I wonder what would have happened if the campground had been full. The sites in the section are on hard-packed dirt with some patchy grass, are level, and long enough to leave your tow vehicle attached to your fifth wheel (we have a 37-foot fifth wheel). In addition to the full hookups, they also provided cable TV, although we didn’t use it.The park does have a small fenced dog run, but the gate latch didn’t work so you couldn’t full secure it, so we kept our dogs on-leash while in there. That was one of the few places we could walk the dogs and not have them pick up sharp little burrs in their paws: all the grassy areas along the road and near the dumpsters were full of them. So really not a great place for dogs. The other big negative was the noise from both the road and the nearby train tracks. The trains blow their horns as they approach town, and there’s no real way to drown them out.On the positive side, the Verizon cell service was robust. The one speedtest I did with my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna, pointed north, showed between 50-75Mbps down and 17Mbps up, more than enough to stream TV. I didn’t remember to do a speedtest with my AT&T phone (it was a long day due to a major detour on our route). We used the bathrooms once, when we first arrived, and other than being pretty dim given it was still daylight they were adequate. Each had two shower stalls.

  • If you can deal with highway/train noise, this is great.

After driving up to Van Horn from Presidio, we called Wild West to see if they had any vacancies for the night the staff was super kind and informative, both during the call and upon arrival. While our Honda Pilot couldn’t compare to the rigs inside the park, we still enjoyed the wide pull through and the water spigot right next to us. Our price was cheaper because we were just a car and we got to choose our own spot. If you have a TV, they have tv access and they offer free wifi. They also have laundry access for $6 and their bathrooms are very clean. We would caution you if you are easily awoken by highway noise or train noise, but it was fantastic despite the noise. If we’re ever on I-10 in this area again, we’ll definitely stay here!

There are several similar campgrounds in town, but I'm glad we opted for Wild West RV Park. It was a delightful surprise with just about everything you'd need for a stop.PROS:- Immaculate bathrooms. They looked newly remodeled and were SUPER clean!!- Super easy access to I-10- Nice long, LEVEL, pull-thru spots (you won’t even need to unhook your toad)- Full Hook-Ups at all the sites- Terrific price at $27 (plus an additional 10% discount for Good Sam or 15% off for military)- Slick, easy-to-navigate website with all the relevant info- 4 bars Verizon LTE- The young man who checked us in was super nice & he told us to pick whichever open site we wanted (giving us more than enough room to maneuver our rig)- They have a fenced pet area with a shaded bench to sit on, doggy poop bags, and even a trash can so you don't have any excuse not to pick up after Fido- WiFi, TV, and laundry (however, we didn’t use them on our brief overnight stay)- They had a one page flyer with the bathroom codes, TV channels, and even a list of the local restaurants- This RV park was exceptionally clean!! You can tell the management really tends to this place and takes pride in it. There wasn't even a scrap a paper/litter in the campground (a rarity in windy West Texas)- Simplified after hours check-in process if you arrive late. It's posted on the office door and on their websiteCONS:- Yes, you are going to have some road noise or the occasional train come by. It's right next to I-10. But so are ALL the other campgrounds in Van Horn. So it's really hard to avoid or even complain about it. OTHER THOUGHTS:- Overall, this place is a real gem and super clean. All the water spigots were insulated for the cold winter nights and where else are you going to get FHU for $27/night? - Van Horn is only 10 miles from from the Mountain / Central Time Zone border. So, you are coming from the west (AZ or NM), be prepared to lose an hour on the clock right before you get there. Don't worry if you miss their normal business hours though. The park's after hours check-in process is posted on the office door.- There's no online booking through their website. But honestly - I doubt they need one. The campground was only 50% full, someone actually answered the phone when I called, and they have after hours payment instructions. The majority of the people staying here seemed to be one-night stopovers too. After all, it's not like Van Horn is a major tourist hub.

Note: under new ownership/management so it's no longer Desert Willow RV Park, it's now "Wild West RV Park".Perfect place to stop for a night or two if you're traveling down I-10. This is your basic no-frills RV park, simple and clean. Just a big red gravel lot with hookup pedestals. Good bathrooms and free wifi and cable.

Not sure you can ask for more in an overnight stay. If there were more like this I wold not stay at Wallyworld or CB so often.Inexpensive, clean, easy in /out, friendly, quiet (well there is a train nearby but doesn't go by too often). Passport America rate listed.

Since all we needed was a place to sleep, electricity (for the heat), and to take on some water, I was looking for a low-cost place to stay. Desert Willow hit the spot.I wouldn't recommend this as a destination. It's basically an open field with hookup. But what hookups! There's the usual electric (20, 30, 50amp) and fresh water and also a sewer/dump. Add to that free cable TV and a fairly decent Wi-Fi.The office hours are 2pm to 8pm, which means that even if you arrive late in the afternoon or early evening, you'll be met by someone in the office. The gentleman who checked us in was very friendly and we felt welcomed.Although this park is not directly next to I-20, it's close enough that we could hear some traffic noise periodically. There was also a train that went through in the wee hours, blowing its horn the entire way. Nuisances, but nothing to really complain about. There's a really good grocery store just a couple of blocks away. Stop at Porter's to pick up whatever you might need.Posted rate is $25.00; we paid $22.50 with a discount for AAA. The man in the office told me the same discount applied to AARP.

Gentleman answering phone said he would be out of office after 5pm that evening and not returning until 2pm the next day. He would make sure an after-hours packet was in the box and told us what the fee would be with GoodSam discount. He told us we could choose from leaving CC info, a check or cash in the envelope to pay for the site (we chose cash) and immediately past the office, were the restrooms and laundry, just after the building itself, we would see a couple of new trailers and then a couple of open sites to pick from….that would put us very close to the bathrooms, all had good 30amp service, which all we needed for a one night stop.We found the envelope, filled out the paperwork after backing into the closest site as he had indicated. Walked back to office to “deposit” the payment and paperwork checking out the restrooms along the way. They were clean and warm… while we did not actually use the showers, they too seemed clean and almost homelike. The campground seemed to be reasonably full of longer-term campers… but was very clean and well laid out. While it is not directly on/off the highway, was not difficult to find. Local grocery store (Porters) was close by, well stocked and reasonably priced. Doubled back thru town and stopped at Love’s gas station right on the way back to getting on the highway, very convenient. While we only drove thru town, it would have been fun to walk… many Route 66 era places to check out.Overall impressed with this place and the price…. Money well spent.

Unfortunately it was so cold that the water spigots were frozen. That being said it was a nice stop for what we needed. We couldn't really hear the interstate and the trains didn't go by that often to be annoying. Wifi was great and we used it instead of our hotspot. We would definitely stay here again.

It is really just 2 parking lots of very level pull through sites, but our site was easy in and out and so level that we didn't bother to unhook for the first time ever. The gentlemen that took my advanced call (to make sure they could fit us) and checked us in is extremely pleasant and helpful, and we didn't use the laundry or bathhouse so I can't speak to them, but they are available. The park is less than a mile off the highway, and the town/park is located in close proximity to a train. Yes it's a bit noisy, but it's also terribly convenient and great for easy overnight.

Office opens at 2pm, but if you arrive earlier just pick a spot and set-up. Several trains per day (and night) - hey this town was founded around that damned railroad - but not too obnoxious. But we did make heavy use of the cable TV and the WiFi. Both were excellent. We had over 40 channels of cable, including HBO. With the park half full, the WiFi was plenty fast. All doing the same thing we were or just stopping because it was so easy to get to on the 10. We felt safe and it was quiet. We needed to do laundry. My husband insisted we check the laundry room. I again said why, but I did and they were the nicest machines we have come across. They looked brand new and of course, everything went fine. $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry. It is a big park, they have more sites across the street and he let us choose where we wanted to park. I would definitely stay in this park again.
