Had to edit this review, the entrance desperately needs to be filled in with some more gravel. Our spare tire drug on the ground and damaged the mount. Theres plenty of big rigs here but just use caution if you have low clearance with jacks or spare tires. Otherwise its no frills, easy self check in, they responded to email promptly. It gets very dusty in strong wind but that goes with the territory. Wi-Fi very slow but cell service was fine for video calls.

It has an old trailer where you sign in. You fill out the paper, including your credit card info, (5% surcharge) and go to your spot. I pulled in, had my chase van pull in next to me. Within a minute, a sloppy looking guy comes up and immediately tells me I can’t park side by side. You pay extra for more than 2 people and extra for a second vehicle. I explained that I had paid extra for the van. That wasn’t satisfactory, he wanted me to pay for two spots. He told me he doesn’t make the rules. I said I needed to think about that. While I was discussing it with my daughter, at the other van, he went to the small trailer, opened the safe box, removed my registration slip, and walks back over to us. He hands me the paper and I responded “that’s it”? This guy wouldn’t even respond, just walked away. It worked out for the best. The showers were dark and run down, the place looked like a scrap yard. Sad, we went elsewhere, despite planning a day of checking out Marfa. $0 spent in Marfa after this guy. What Marfa badly needs is a clean, well managed RV park. Also, train runs right behind the location.

One building full of junk… Huge rut at the exit, so had to go super slow to turn onto the busy highway. Right next to the railroad tracks, with trains running at night… Our site (not all) had the hookups on the side where you’d want a table or chairs, away from the door side, not that we wanted to sit outside!! It was conveniently located next to Marfa… the only positive.

A new art installation was apparently completed just before we arrived within walking distance from the RV area and just next to the boondocking / tent / car camping area. The installation provides a really cool, low-light, colorful set of lights at night and is seen as ~10 rust colored large pipes sticking out of the dirt in a semi-circle shape during the day. When observing close-up during the day or given the colorful lights at night, you can see they are laser-cut with unique designs. Really neat. Back to the campground. It's a simple campground with pull-through or back-in sights. Easy access to the full-hookups appears available at each site. A common area with a kitchen and washer / dryer you would expect in a house or smaller hostel are available for all to use (during Covid it is asked that if you have these in your rig, you use your own). The washer / dryer is a simple $3 donation request (awesome) and there is a table inside and outside of the kitchen / common area. The wifi has been well above average. The camp host mostly keeps to himself but is obvious should you need him. I was lucky enough to meet him while walking my pup one evening. Chatting with him was enjoyable and his dog, Brian (I think), was nice. As for star scores, the following are my narratives: I considered giving only 4 stars but then reconsidered since it would be extremely difficult and labor intensive to fix my one complaint - the desert is not a place for dog to run: As with areas since we arrived to Big Bend, Alpine and Marfa are covered in plants which are dry and mean. They have prickers and burrs and overall are not dog friendly. It is difficult to find traditional grass on which a dog would enjoy running, so that is my one complaint however it is not unique to this campground, nor this town. I downgraded the Cleanliness a bit only due to what I assume is dog mess around the area. I am very diligent about picking up after our dog so am fairly judgmental to those who don't do the same, especially in what is essentially shared space (a campground). And noise was another one I considered putting at a 4 since the train tracks are nearby and you can watch and hear LLLOOOOONNNNGGGG trains go by a number of times a day. That said, we really liked the trains so I kept my rating at a 5 :-).

Very quiet park sans some highway noise and the trains nearby. Being mid December and at 4000 feet of elevation, the temps got down to the teens every night. The parks water system does freeze and won’t usually unfreeze until mid afternoon each day, so fill your tank, or use the provided restroom/showers. There is a common area with a kitchen and laundry. The laundry is donation based at $3 per load. The park is almost completely covered in goat head burrs, so be careful when walking your pets and stick to the roads. Also, there was a fair amount of broken glass which was sad to see. Definitely check out the cool light art installation at night. It’s pretty sweet. Marfa has all the basics at the dollar general just down the road, and lots of great art museums/restaurants. Definitely go check out the Chinati Foundation at the old military complex. Would stay here again for sure when visiting Marfa next time!

If you have a reservation there will be a cone I front of your site so people who just drive up know that spot is taken. The campsite full hookups and the sites are pretty level. With my trailer I didn’t need any extension chords or long hoses to be able to hook up to water, wastewater and electricity. They also have bathrooms and showers, which are very clean and well taken care of, and a little lounge with a washer/dryer, stove and fridge. I used the washer/dryer for a load and it worked great. The area was fairly quiet while I was there, with the exception of a train that sometimes comes by very, very early in the morning. I sleep like a rock so it didn’t really bother me.Overall I think this is a great park and would definitely stay here again.

We had a pull through site for most of our stay - full hookup/50ampOur original stay was supposed to last a week.. however, due to some shipping issues with our new hotspot we ordered.. we had to extended our stay until it arrived which was such an easy process (granted we had to switch spots) BUT the manager was very accommodating and super helpful! The campground is very neat - the check-in spot is an old trailer. Super cute. There's also an old Airstream on site (I'm a sucker for Airstreams)! I loved the RV park and the travelers we met coming through. Cell service was great for both AT&T and Verizon. Laundry is based on an honor system which was awesome! I just dropped $20 in the box and did a few loads. No messing with change! It was fantastic! Bathrooms are clean and the vibe here is very laid back. You get a little noise from the train next door but we didn't notice it much (could be because we lived right next door to a train for awhile...) Noise isn't bothersome here. Sunrise and sunsets are beautiful. Marfa was a neat little town too. If you like organic -there is a nice place in town called "The Get Go" that has everything organic. It was the BEST surprise in Marfa! Oh! and their gym was great too... it's 3 stories!! It's close enough to Big Bend also which was a perk! Definitely will be coming back if we make it back 'round this part of Texas. Only thing to watch out for if you have doggos: There are prickles in the grass.. we learned the hard way. The Sir was not happy about getting a prickly in his toes!

Others have complained about the noise from trains but only one train came through while we were there and it was early in the evening. Noise from the highway was also minimal since the speed limit is 45mph in front of the park. We were there over a Saturday night so maybe there's more traffic during the week. The gravel sites were completely flat with full hook ups and 50amps. The restrooms were clean and heated, and the community room was as good as I've ever seen with washer/dryer, fridge, microwave, potbelly stove, and a homey west Texas atmosphere. The campground was completely full so don't expect to snag one of the 14 spots without a reservation which must be done online. Nothing really very beautiful to look at out there on the prairie except a kind of cool modern art version of something that resembles Stonehenge.

Sites have nothing beyond the hookups but they were all brand new, well-maintained, and worked great. The walk into town was less than 10 minutes or a two minute drive. The Marfa Lights are visible from the road in front of the campground, the official viewing center was 9 miles down the road and offered a better view.As other reviews have mentioned, the campground is ~50 yards from the Union Pacific freight tracks. We didn’t have a night with more than 2 trains. We personally found the trains part of the experience, the town of Marfa started as a Union Pacific water stop and the rails are a part of the town and West Texas. You’ll hear the coyotes howl to the sound of the train when it rolls through at night. Our dog had no trouble with the goathead burrs when we were on the main roads in the campground, but we did run into a few when we went off the main paths.AT&T Down 60Mbps / Up 11MbpsPark WiFi Down 50Mbps / Up 1MbpsThe park Wifi was quick but seemed to flake out at times. If you’re not familiar with Marfa, operating hours are a suggestion and non-binding. The RV Park is relatively close to Marfa, but everything is close. We showed up and the water on our site was frozen at noon. Apparently site 6 water freezes faster and stays frozen longer than the other sites. The manager decided to test our water while we were gone and hooked up our hose and ran the water... it was our spray clean out for the black tank (and the valve was shut). Water everywhere, coming out of our top vent. While he was good to let us know - I am still baffled why he thought he could hook up our hose without asking us. Hoping it did not blow a gasket, but that's hard to tell. Each site only has water, electricity hook up, but no picnic table or fire ring. Noise is a problem as the park is situated between the highway and the very used railways.

We tried the Marfa Lights free parking, but our tmobile hotspot was completely dead out there and ATT wasn't much better.TumbleIn now has an on site host. Previous reviews mentioned that it was on the honor system? It's really clean here, the wifi signal was strong at site 5, bathrooms were totally fine, and we had full hookups. It's the first park in a while that we could actually thread a sewer cap into to make a tight connection.Negatives? Seems just a little overpriced for desert camping and it's sandwiched between the train tracks and the highway. We had to pay for pullthrough spot since all the backins were taken. Backin pricing is completely reasonable BTW.Still, glad we came here and we're happily working away on the campground wifi without even using our hotspot. We would def stay here again.

You fill out a form in their office (which is just a small travel trailer next to the clubhouse) that lists the site number, how long you'll be there, and your method of payment. You drop it in the lock box in the office and you're checked in. As for amenities all sites are full hook up, there is decent Wi-Fi, laundry, and nice bathrooms/showers. AT&T and Verizon are very fast here (30mbps down, 10 up). The best thing about this park is its proximity to Marfa. It's less than a mile to downtown, which we frequently biked or walked. The only downside to this park is the trains. They can be kind of loud. Sleeping with ear plugs or white noise is probably a must unless you're a very heavy sleeper. Our air conditioner or white noise usually did the trick, but I still woke up occasionally. Other reviewers mentioned stickers/burrs. I think they've cleaned all these up. Our dogs had no issues during the week we were there.

As some have described, this is a no-frills, self-serve RV park. I found it to be a little on the creepy side, not seeing anyone around most of the time. Amenities: It's a new park so the shower, bathrooms, etc. are all nice enough. A bit dimly lit, but good shower pressure & heat in the one shower in the bathroom. Laundry is on your honor (cash envelope) and there is just one machine. No picnic table or anything like that. Sites are gravel and a little uneven. Wifi was actually decent, which was a very redeeming quality in the Marfa deadzone.Location: The park is right on the train tracks, so you most definitely can hear the trains rolling through at night, and they are much louder during the day. The location is OK. Marfa is small, and Tumble In is right outside of the town limit, which is definitely not as convenient as it could be (you then have to drive to everything). Overall, I'm not sure if I would camp here again. For what it is, this park seems to be overpriced (but most RV parks in Marfa are overpriced).

This is a self-service park with few frills. When you arrive, you check yourself in (our rate was the weekly pull-through rate). The park owner is available by email and the few time I wrote to him with questions like where's the closest propane refill (it's West Texas Gas in Alpine on Highway 118 north of the hospital, by the way), he wrote back quickly and was very helpful. There are a few retro trailers always on site to add some charm, and the visitors seem to have a higher retro camper ratio than usual, too. It seemed a lot of folks just stayed for one night, but several stayed for a week or longer (like us) to have time to explore Marfa and the surrounding areas. During the week, there were just a few other guests, but during the weekends, it livened up.A few potential downsides: there's a train that runs right behind the park. It doesn't blow its horn at night like it does during the day, but you can definitely hear and feel the rumble. Also, there are provided shower and bathroom facilities, as well as a laundry facility and kitchen, but none have any kind of central air or heat. There is one washer and one dryer, but you pay with a cash envelope, so it's nice not to have to keep track of quarters. We loved our brunch at Squeeze Marfa. There's supposed to be a great organic grocery store in Marfa, although we never made it there; the Puebla Market grocery store is pricey and a bit picked-over. There's a Dollar General next door for quick things. There are plenty of businesses in Alpine, and the drive between the two cities is pretty. Also recommended is Big Bend National Park, although it's a long drive. It's best if you can stay the night there. McDonald Observatory is only 45-60 minutes north, so take advantage of an evening Star Party to look through their high-powered telescopes.

  • Not sure if we'd camp here again.

This place just opened when we were here, so it was just a gravel lot -- covered with goat head thorns. My suggestion is if you have pets, you cant walk them here unless the thorns have been cleaned up.
