We found this campground on our way to Big Bend NP as a stopover. The staff was excellent. The community where it is located is a treasure to explore. So much history. The campground is simple but relaxing. We will be back and plan to spend a couple of days next time.

It's an unusual HOA on 2500 historic acres with many historical buildings- like a little living museum, amazing trails network and old growth trees along a large spring fed creek oasis, golf, a massive spring fed swimming pool (no chemicals!). Make sure to drive/walk back to "red bridge park"- a hidden gem of old tree grove along the river. There are ongoing community events that RVrs are welcome to (get the weekly schedule on check in)- you are wrapped right into the community, I joined in the potluck followed by cards, then crafts the next day, large community fire pit. good sam discount

Renting a golf cart is a must. The trails are amazing. The museum was closed but had number to call which we did and ended up getting an excellent tour guide and no others around. The RV park is just side by side but easy. The staff and residents very pleasant.

  • Interesting place, good value but not much to offer

The owner was nice and friendly and the rate was very reasonable. We did not use the restrooms or laundry facilities, so I can't comment on them. The site was a decent enough pull-thru site and was level. Wi-Fi is mainly for the full-timers, and while it worked briefly for a free trial, any real use requires payment. The area is very interesting with a lot of history - I learned that future generals Robert E. Lee, Grant, MacArthur and Patton all were stationed here at one point. Very cool. However, the Fort Clark site itself seemed rather sad. It seems like it is just fading away into oblivion and slowly degrading, with buildings falling into disrepair and many buildings with for sale signs on them. It's either a place whose glory is all behind it, or the dream to make this place special never came to fruition. The RV park itself was somewhat similar, in that there were RVs there that were in various states of falling apart. We don't regret staying here but would not come back.

We did take a pretty drive up into the hills. The fort is interesting and probably houses most of the 1000 residents of Brackettville. Interesting old buildings and a small museum. The park is very tight with mostly level gravel sites. Utilities worked fine. Cable and WiFi have been cancelled so bring your satellite and MiFi. Mostly permanent and seasonal residents, all have large trucks making the interior roads very tight. Quiet and fairly dark at night. Definitely need more staff for maintenance. It's just a strange place all around, but nothing bad.

Such an interesting idea to turn the old fort into housing. I'd go back just to explore a bit. WiFi was amazing.

I actually have family that live there and that's the only reason I know of the place. The campground is at the back of the fort, so you will pass by all the history, deer, turkey and golf carts on the way to it. There's nothing fancy about the campground, but they have full hook ups and there's a lot of things to do on the fort. There's a natural spring that supplies all the fresh water, you can swim in it. They filmed "The Alamo" movie there. The fort has a ton of bike trails and you are guaranteed to see turkey and axis deer on them. Wild life is everywhere here.If you get the chance, check it out!
