No satellite but cable tv worked just fine. We were able to stream TV on Verizon This park is big rig friendly for 45ft motorhome homes with toads and stacker trailers. We were scheduled to stay a week but hubby came down with the flu and the staff was able to extend our stay for another week without having to move stops. The only negative was the left hand turn in and out of the park. Traffic signal causes long back ups and the drivers arent courteous. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall I enjoyed my time here. I wish I had a little more room at my site, but they do have some sites that are larger. The biggest downfall is the intersection in front of the campground. It is impossible to turn left out of the campground.

The state park on James Island was always booked, except for during the week. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. The sites are a mix of grass, gravel, or a concrete pad. Most of them are pull-throughs. Some have FHU, some only water/electric, some are dry camping. Some are 30 amp only, some are 30/50. So if you needs something specific let them know. We stayed in a FHU, with 30 amp, on a concrete pad. There was no breaker on the electric box - FYI. The wifi was so-so. This is a basic park and a good place to stay while exploring the area. The biggest downfall is getting in or out of the park - Hwy 17 is VERY busy. When you come out of the park, you have to go right and do not expect to get into the left turn lane. There is a Speedway gas station on the corner where you could maybe pull through and come out on Main st, but even that can get busy. I highly recommend when coming to the park that you come in from Hwy 17 south, from the direction of Hwy 526, so that you can turn right into the park. The left lane from Hwy 17 North is just barely there and the traffic is too thick to get through and not courteous. Easy to navigate inside of park.

Plenty of room to get into sites, electric/water/sewer worked just fine. Plenty of trash bins around. It just doesn’t compare to some of the other parks we’ve stayed at recently and for the price, you don’t get much value.Bathrooms are more like a state park, very old and in need of remodeling. They’re below average compared to other RV parks. At least they were clean.Getting into and out of the park is another frustration, as the street it’s on is SO busy. Making a left out or in is difficult.Road noise was noticeable, but not terrible.Overall a very average park that could do more.

The entrance to the park is hard to get in and out due to the traffic at the stoplight. They also have lots of speed-bumps in the park (which we dislike)! The sites are spread out and we had a pull through site with a cement pad and gravel extension for parking the rig on. Our site was level and had full hookups, cable and a picnic table. The park has free Wi-Fi, but not for streaming. We loved that they support recycling! Also, they had a food truck that served delicious Italian food!

However, getting in and out of the park is like running the gauntlet. We were hunkered down awaiting our second Covid shot so it was very convenient for that purpose. But a lot of emergency vehicles and sirens all night and all day long only one way in on this park and it’s a pretty scary left hand turn. Also our breaker box kept tripping due to the heavy load of air conditioners running.

Lots of airplanes and a ridiculous amount of speed bumps. We probably won’t stay again unless other campgrounds are booked, or maybe we’d ask to stay up near the front so we don’t have to go over a million speed bumps. Half the time it takes to get downtown is spent getting out of the campground.

Chris in the office was so helpful and he answered all our questions about the area and gave great recommendations of restaurants. The campground is very large and spacious and many sites have mature trees. Bathhouses are clean, although they are older, and yes as someone else has mentioned it does smell strongly with deodorizers. I guess better than a bad smell. We got a tip from a neighboring RVer to spray for small ants anywhere that the RV touches the ground so the ants won’t crawl up and get in our RV as it did theirs. We promptly went to buy ant spray and never had a problem. The ant problem could possibly be from recent rains they had. The road in front of campground is extremely busy (Hwy 17) and I wouldn’t attempt ever turning left to get out. Just take a right and another right behind campground to get you out. It may take longer but worth your sanity. Note that if the food truck Provata is onsite, give it a try. Great Italian food, all homemade including the bread. It was so good and the owners were so sweet!

Lots of speed humps – lots. I get the need to squash the speed demons but this is overkill. Interior roads are paved but the ones leading to the sites are narrow. Like narrow enough that if two vehicles meet one has to four wheel it in the grass. The sites are mostly grass with some gravel. Our pull thru was mostly gravel which was great as they had a ton of rain. The site was long and mostly level. There is fairly decent spacing between sites but no privacy. It is a pretty park with lots of trees and green grass. Directv worked in our site but may not in others. They have cable available, and we were also able to get OTA on our antenna. Great Verizon service at 4g 4 bars which was valuable as the WII FI was too slow to use. Even though our site was further back in the park, there was lots of road noise from US 17 and Main Road. Just as a side note, the water is very soft so you’ll save on soap. About 12 miles from downtown Charleston but takes 25-30 minutes with traffic. Pretty pricey in our opinion for what you get.

Overall, everything was great here: Clean showers, pleasant staff and decent laundry. Note for Rainy Days: The night we arrived it was pouring rain and upon getting out of our vehicle to unhitch we noticed a bad smell. After thinking it might be something in the RV park, we drove 10 minutes away for dinner and still smelled it. That’s when our server mentioned something about the nearby paper mill causing the stink. Long story short, there is a paper mill just outside of Charleston, so on rainy foggy days it makes the air smell gross. At least it’s not your neighbor’s sewer! Lol The next day the skies cleared and the smell was gone for the remainder of our time in Charleston.

They sell propane and have a small convenience store and fire rings available to rent daily ($4.50/day). Their laundry facility is clean, reasonably priced, and machines are efficient. We were very pleased with that and enjoyed a game of chess on their giant garden chess set while we waited for laundry to be done. We did not check out the pool. It is located a the front of the campground right next to the highway. The campground is conveniently located to the city which was great. It is situated between two busy highways so there is road noise, but we stayed for the convenience, so that did not bother us. The WiFi was spotty. That would be our only real note for improvement. There are well marked garbage and recycling cans throughout the campground. There are sites with full sun and with shade. They even have a dog run.

For anything more than a short stay, we would have a problem with the noise at this campground. We have stayed at this campground twice. The positive is the site assigned to us, both times, fit us. We did not care for the site during our first visit, a little closer to our neighbors than we prefer and it was very unlevel front to back. The site that was assigned to us, during the second visit, was nicer (i.e., better site length and spacing). The campground location makes a trip to the historic areas of Charleston relatively easy, but due to the noise, outdated facilities and infrastructure as well as you can’t reserve a specific site [nor will they tell you the site they assigned to you, until you arrive at the campground] – we don’t find this campground overly desirable. However, the campground does have some big rig friendly sites.

So, we stayed here since the proximity to Charleston was right. Check in was easy and many (most?) of the sites are pull through and perfectly level which was nice. The back area (where we were) really packs them in with the narrowest strip of grass between out picnic table and the slide of the neighboring 5th wheel. We were dwarfed by the class As and 5th wheels (the 5th wheel next to us could look down into our vista view windows :/ ). Closer to the middle of the park offers a more grassy area, more space between sites and more trees. The back area also has some busy roads boarding it and the traffic (and emergency vehicle) noise was considerable. Again, I think somewhere in the middle of the park is better. The fenced dog run is HUGE and our lab, Vader, approved. The small playground was enough to make my kids happy. The pool is cute but right next to a busy road. Bathhouses were immaculate. Proximity to Charleston is superb. Access to the park is excellent. Grocery store around the corner.
