The driveway was not flooded when we got there but the potholes did show that they do have issues. Upon setting up on our site we could see they were expanding the campground..right behind our site. The first night there our "neighbor" said someone broke the laundry change machine off the wall the night before we arrived and of course we were right next to it. Security is weak at this campground. For most of the eleven days we stayed here two excavators, dump trucks and trailers worked within 50 feet of our camper. It have been real nice to have told in advanced, but that didn't happen. I swear they only ever go backwards based upon the continuous backup alarms. The dust was unbelievable from the equipment and their dirt roads. It seems as though much of the campground is full time residents with stuff everywhere on their sites. The only blessing of this construction equipment was it drowned out the truck jake brakes at the stop light, the train whistles at the road and the landing jets a a nearby airport. In case you're wondering we did get a Good Sam discount but nothing more for the construction front row seat. The bathrooms were outdated but clean and the laundry was $3.50 to wash and $.25/8 minutes to dry. Water pressure at site outlet was 62 lbs.

Recently moved to full time RV living but Charleston will always be a go to spot for us. There are not many campgrounds in the CHS area so we REALLY wanted to like Lake Aire. We especially wanted to like it because the staff is very nice and you can tell they are trying to fix the issues people complain about - mainly the poor drainage. Sadly, it’s not enough and the “fixes” create other issues. We were there for the month of Oct ‘21. There was one very heavy downfall. Our site drained fairly quickly (2days) but the dirt road behind us took over 10 days. The next rainfall they were out there physically draining the puddles into the pond which helped, but all the roads are quite rutted. The sites are very tight esp with both of our vehicles there. When outside we felt we were in a box bw 2 RV and both vehicles. To help with the drainage they have a lot of large gravel. Problem with that was I, and many others we talked to, we’re constantly rolling on the gravel. It also made it uncomfortable even with the rug down. It want a very friendly park. Mostly people stayed very much to themselves. And the area with the full timers felt more uncomfortable than any other place we stayed. The pool was in very good shape. There’s a pretty pond and small creeks for the kids to fish.

The biggest downfall may be the bugs if you like to be outside. Quiet for the most part, but frequent trains. A lovely pool and other facilities. They even have a few hammocks to relax in. When I asked about the availability of Uber/Lyft to get to Magnolia Plantation I was told it was spotty. The nice lady at the front desk offered to take us if we couldn’t get a ride. We were able to get Uber on 2 consecutive days. The downside on this campground may be the dirt road in. Dusty.

Never saw any poop.Cute little ducks and a fishing catch release pond.Nice short wooded walking trail. No sketchy people at all.Good streaming reception.THE BAD: the gravel drive was terrible! It rained one night and it was not puddles, but ponds. It’s so bumpy and needs two truck loads of gravel minimum.THE LESSON: we booked a reservation for thu- fri. They had nothing for Saturday except tent camping. We took that for one night and moved to the full hook ups the following morning. We assumed the tent site would be where the tents were. Instead they told us to park in a parking lot and charged us 26.00$ for nothing. They are overall, over priced for what you get unless they improve the sites and I’ll was a bite put off with the “tent” camp site. There were many that we could have parked in but they put us in the middle of a parking lot for 26.00! If you need to do that just go to Walmart for free. The sites are very small and could be maintained better.Holes low spots and the gravel is sharp and big. So no barefoot.

Especially the gravel road into the site from the registration office. It was wash-board rough with some large swale holes. I will say they were dragging the road every day but not making a lot of progress.Thee was good separation from the full-timers part of the park but some of those sites were pretty messy. Some train noise. The overall scenery down towards the lake at the park was nice and the laundry/restrooms were very clean. Staff was friendly and very accommodating.Bottom line for us was that it was not a 55/night site. A price of higher 30s would be more appropriate.

We like to walk, ride bikes or run somewhere from our campsite.

Awesome right by the water, wrong there was mud again about 3-5 inches and we had to park sideways to get into our spot. Other than that, it was actually a nice setting then we started walking around and we walked into the bathroom and showers. I felt we needed shots to get into the shower, they were very dirty and muddy. The whole park is grass and mud, ok space between each other and the train goes by 4 times a day so if you really need a place to stay. I might think twice. Good luck

We were pleasantly surprised. I don't remember the site number but it was a water/electricity site only that backed on to the large pond that meanders throughout the site. It took a little levelling (given the slope to the pond) but nothing unusual. Our site and those around appeared clean and well maintained but no landscaping around the sites. We were located near a two stall restroom (toilet and sink) and not the main restroom with showers. This building was clean and more modern than the main building. The main building housing the restrooms, showers and laundry looked to be in good condition but the restroom.showers were certainly dated and cramped. The campground is well located to Charleston, just follow the highway outside the grounds into the city. There was some noise from the railroad, not frequent but irregular in occurrence. There was no highway noise as the campground is set back from the road. The site is nicely laid out, irregular in shape given the pond. There are a variety of sites from full service for large motorhomes to tent only sites. We arrived on Saturday for three nights and received the Passport America rate of $28 per night (plus taxes). We would definitely stay here again given our experience. We stayed there in November, 2019.

It was cheaper than other options in the area, and we were able to get 2 nights at half-price with our Passport America membership. However, it was pretty run down. The majority of the campers are long-timers and maybe all-timers. Many rigs looked run down and it added to the appearance of a place that had seen better days. The bathhouse was also older and rough around the edges. The shower space was too small and almost impossible to turn around to get dressed. The train noise was ever present, day and night. I just didn't feel comfortable. Also there was a used diaper in our fire ring upon arrival and when we went to use the dump station, there was raw feces on the ground which I discovered when I stepped in it.

Because the location of this campground is nice and close to Charleston, but the campground itself is kind of run down. The bathhouse has very small shower stalls (except for the handicapped stall, that had enough room) and they were pretty dirty. The women's showers are right next to the laundry room and it was tough to keep the water temperature constant if the washing machines were running. During my shower the temperature would go from comfy to blazing hot in no time and it was nearly impossible to adjust it back to a normal temperature. I would have used our own shower, but they put us in an electric/water hook up for some reason and we didn't want to fill our grey tank with shower water. There seems to be a number of full time residents. I don't mind a campground having full time residents, but some of the rigs were really run down and had a lot of 'stuff' in their 'yards'.The pool is small but clean and the people that work here are really nice.

We researched a lot of different RV parks in the Charleston area and this was the best rate we found for full hook-ups and proximity to the city (about 30 min with traffic.) We arrived after a couple days of heavy rain and even though the sites are gravel, ours was relatively dry and level. The manager was also kind enough to let us look at our site to make sure it was satisfactory before we settled in which we appreciated coming from our last park where our site was very muddy and un-level! The laundry room is small but adequate and the grounds are also well kept up.Dog-Friendliness:Ok. Unfortunately there's no off-leash dog park or run but you can walk your pup around the park.Runner's and Biker's Rave:Ok. You can run or bike about a mile loop within the park, after that you'll be on a busy road.WHJ Insider Tip:There's variety in the site size (the ones right on the lake are pretty tricky to park any size rig in so make sure you let the park know how big your rig is. Overall, we'd recommend staying at Lake Aire if you're looking for a reasonable price, a few amenities, and good proximity to Charleston.

Fire ants all over the place--they bit one of our dogs a bunch of times and she had a reaction. Beware if you're from the north and aren't used to those things.
