We selected this a place to recharge and reload between boondocking at Devil's Tower and the Badlands. It didn't disappoint. Next time we're passing through we'll stay here again. The only disappointment was that there are no laundry facilities at the park. However there are two Laundromats close by.

We enjoyed our stay at this campground. Quiet in the off- season. Rates are $20 for electric and sewer after Oct. 1. Water is turned off at the sites but available from 2 drinking water spouts on the main road.Deer and wild turkey are residents of the campground.

Yes, the campsites are quite close together but the campground is quiet and that never bothered us at all. This campground is close to so many fun things to do. We bounced around on multiple forest service roads and explored all over in the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming. We spent one day in Sturgis and climbed to the top of Bear Butte (that was hard). We bicycled into Spearfish and listened to live music in the park. We explored the DC Booth Fish Hatchery that adjoins the campground. We had a wonderful time. This campground is full of families with children and on Saturday night the campground put up a movie screen and showed a family movie. People came with their blankets and sat outside watching The Sand Lot. It was like back in 2019 when camping was fun for families and everyone else. The restrooms are very nice and clean. The WiFi is not great but it kind of works if you are up by the office. It was a terrific campground and we certainly would not hesitate to camp here again.

Really nice well maintained park with plenty of walking paths. Walking distance to downtown and right next to the fish hatchery which was a great free attraction. Sites were level and shady. Plenty of grass to play with the dog.

This city campground is nothing more than a parking lot. When we arrived there was tent campers everywhere 3-5 tents on a site. Ive been to a lot of questionable places to camp this was by far the worst.

What I wanted to encourage is that you consider dry camping in the primitive sites instead of the full hook up sites. Not only is it less money but it is a much more pleasant experience. We are camped 10 to 15 feet out the door to a lovely stream and in the shade of the trees. Absolutely beautiful. I have included a few pictures of our campsite and encourage you to skip the hook ups and “rough it” at the tranquil primitive sites. Get here close to 2 PM check in so you can get the site of your choice.

We came here for a reset after dry camping in the National Forest for a few days. Walmart and a couple of full service grocery stores are close. We highly recommend a stop at the Steerfish restaurant on 5th street downtown Spearfish. Happy Hour with great specials starts at 3pm! The State Fish Hatchery is next door, free, and a must see. On site staff was friendly and helpful. Kudos to the City of Spearfish for maintaining a great campground.

We are happy it ended up this way and we got the chance to camp at Spearfish City Campground.AMENITIES: During the off season (November 1 - April 30) it is $10 a night. The sites in the off season only offer electric and dump. The water is shut off at the sites, but there are several frost free spigots around the camp to fill water. We got lucky because we were there the last week of April and they turned the water on early and we still only paid $10 a night for the full hook ups. There appeared to be a bathhouse, we didn't use it. And there was also wifi at the campground however, it was pretty slow to do anything. I don't believe there was any kind of laundry facility. CELL SERVICE/INTERNET: We have a Peplink Router and Mobile Booster that runs off of T-Mobile service. In our several months of working full time in the RV, this is the very first time our T-Mobile router struggled to get any signal at all. I pulled up the T-Mobile coverage map and it appeared that Spearfish sat right in a canyon and it was an absolute dead spot for T-Mobile. Once the clouds cleared up, I was able to work a little bit on the router, but I believe the max speed I ever got was 5MBS of download speed. However, we were able to use out Verizon hot spots on our phone to work and Verizon had excellent service (40+ MBS download speed) and I took Zoom calls with no problem. If you need to work and have T-Mobile only, I wouldn't recommend it unless you've got a backup cell service. If you just need to take phone calls/texts on T-Mobile, you are probably fine.PROS: The location for me was a pro even though it wasn't exactly a secluded and wilderness experience. It was walking distance to downtown - I walked to downtown a few times to get coffee, breakfast burritos and ice cream. There was also a brewery and a few other restaurants. There was also an awesome running/bike path all around the campground. The location made a great jumping off point for a lot of locations. We were 20 minutes from Deadwood. And about an hour to an hour and a half from Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and Crazy Horse Memorial so it was easy to make day trips. We were also about an hour and a half from Devils Tower which we hit on our way out of town. The sites accommodated our 36th foot 5th wheel with ease. CONS: Sites were really close together. That's really the biggest con.

The sites are REALLY close together and manuring a large rig could be a problem depending on the site. Depending on your very close neighbor noise can be an issue. A note of concern for us was the location of some of the fire rings being so close to our camper we didn't us ours but our neighbors did and the fear of them building a large fire and burning our camper down was always in the back of my mind. So you use common sense and be a polite neighbor. Spearfish is close enough to everything you would want to do in the Black Hills but yet far enough away to avoid all the tourist traffic if that's what your looking for.

Water is also available for those who want to dry camp. The hook up section is on gravel. We were able to get satellite service at our site. The do offer cable TV hookup all included. The only downside of this camp, is that the full hook up sites are typically close to each other. The dry camping is more spaced out, also fewer takers there.

It’s now on the list for a return visit. The campground was well maintained, the staff exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the grounds were lovely. We had no idea there was so much to do in the area! We were in space #30, which is considered a premium site (pull-through, FHU-50 amp) so there are less expensive options. There isn’t a lot of privacy/separation between sites, but each has a fire pit and picnic table and grassy area. Some sites are along the creek. Large, well-trimmed trees throughout the campground. The park has both RV and tent sites. It is adjacent to the Historic Fish Hatchery, bike and walking trails, and a lovely city park. We had 4bars of 4G and the park WiFi actually worked! The town of Spearfish looked interesting and we would have liked to do some exploring. We did have an excellent meal at Trader Dough Pizza Company (cash/check only).

As no campfires are permitted, I found myself engulfed in the trappings of my cellular device. Suddenly, something felt off. Slightly foreboding. I looked up from my communication device, peered into the silent quiet of the park, but alas, nothing. I returned to hashtags and instatweets. Then I felt it again, that cold snap to raise the hair on your chinny chin chin. Looking up, there he was. I shart you not, a wolf stood proud before me, not as under my awning as I was, but let's just say if it were raining, his nose wouldn't be getting wet. I stood up, dropped my phone, a let out as manly a cowering "Hey!" as I could. He did nothing. Not a twitch. I suppose I'm not as frightening as I'd like to believe. He was almost all white, with a silver "saddle" patch on his back. I tried again, "Get out!"Then I saw his friend. Similarly marked, but brown with the same saddle this time only black. The two wolves then turned around, as if uninterested entirely, and walked into the night. I trembled with the sort of delight one might have from a healthy desire to be afraid of and simultaneously desirable of being attacked by wolves. As an RV park goes, it's just okay. You can walk to town and they make Crow's Peak IPA nearby, so if you're not into wolf encounters that's a plus.
