Campground is basically gravel lots that stair step up the side of the mountain. The sites are tightly packed with just a railroad tie between the sites. There are trees surrounding the park which is really pretty. Cute little dog run and nice bathrooms. Definitely wouldn’t stay longer.

You are climbing as you move through the campgrounds different sections. Not terrifically difficult but be ready for it.It has washer/dryers but I don't remember shower facilities. There is a shuttle that will take you into deadwood which runs on a very convenient schedule. It's a nice way to avoid dealing with parking in Deadwood. The wifi works just well and the the pool/spa are well maintained.Since it's a tight campground arrival parking can be a little tricky but since it's also small there aren't a ton of people checking in at the same time. The staff is friendly and professional, they will make the check go smoothly. The campground is all dirt. In summer it rains almost every afternoon in the hills for at least a few minutes. Once the dirt turns to mud you'll want to have some way of keeping it out of your tent/camper. The really excellent part of this KOA is where it's situated. It's almost exactly 1 mile to either Deadwood OR Lead. If you go toward Lead you can head out to Spearfish Canyon which is just gorgeous. Check out Bridal Veil Falls, Roughlok Falls trail or the Devils Bathtub in Spearfish Canyon. You can find maps for any/all of these online and you can do all three in a day if you wish. On your way back to the campground I suggest stopping at Lewie's for a burger and a beer. It's a local institution and the burgers are really, REALLY good. If you shoot photography you will find all manner of places to shoot, just use the photopills app to find the golden hour/blue hour for each area you want to shoot.

The campground is ideally located to many local attractions, Deadwood gambling and historic sites. The drive in has a sharp turn with a steep grade for the larger rigs, but it is paved. The drive in has a sharp turn with a steep grade for the larger rigs, but it is paved. The store is reasonable, well stocked and the staff are excellent. The sites are tight, the pool looks great although we didn't use it. The bathrooms could use an update and the staff weren't up to date with all the events going on. I would gladly stay here again as a base to do many things in the area but after 5 days you will want to move on.
