Hosts were nice and views were good, but we left for an hour and came back with our chairs stolen. Not thrilled. Also is a free for all with showers. There is people that are not staying at the camp that can just pull in and park and take showers and use the restrooms. A lot of traffic that are not campers

The hosts/workers were extremely friendly. Only thing I would recommend is taking 119 and not the Golden Gate Canyon road if you are pulling a trailer. Our son got some elevation/motion sickness from all the up-downs and turns in Canyon Rd. Save time by taking 119 as far as you can!

We stayed in site #1 for 3 nights and enjoyed awesome scenery as well as peaceful nights. Our only negative was zero Verizon cell coverage. The wifi worked well for a campsite but it would go in & out occasionally. We we defintely stay here again.

I’m not making my destination and begin calling every campground I can find like a complete nube. After getting laughed at by at least a half dozen camp hosts, Russ at Base Camp answers the phone. He checked around to see if some no-shows were really not showing and got a place for me to crash. There are some really good human beings running this place. Base Camp is clean, cozy, and in the perfect location of the Rocky Mts. It’s a curvy road to get there, but it’s worth it. Families are hanging out, children playing. Rocky Mt. fishing ponds close by as well as hiking. Stars galore at night. Gas pumps on site (for those who drive hours on end and forget to get gas beforehand). Very clean and updated showers with HOT water. Superbly stocked country store. And I can’t say enough nice things about the people running it.

  • Beautiful grounds with shady Cottonwoods.

We enjoyed our stay here. The property was immaculately clean and easy access to Golden Gate State Park.

Really no other place to camp in the area for winter so we were thankful they were open. Just stayed one night passing through. Restrooms were...in need of some love. Well stocked store on site.

Sparkling clean and very safe-feeling, it's a great jumping-off point for Golden Gate Canyon State Park as well as attractions in Blackhawk, Idaho Springs, and Georgetown. We've stayed here three times, twice in cabins and once as a family group that combined one 24' TT and one cabin. After a friendly and efficient check-in that includes directions to your site, you're on your own unless you prefer to be social. By-the-night sites have a little tree cover between them but this is a compact campground. So, although the area generally is quiet, you can hear a little campground buzz from neighbors in the evening hours. (Cabins, fair warning, are very close together. Cooperative parking is required so that you're not putting a foot in your neighbor's fire ring.) Full-timer sites are close-packed without tree cover. No cell service (with any carrier as of 2017), but they do have campground wireless. Restrooms are dated very but clean. I believe they are scheduled for remodel soon. A fully-stocked convenience store onsite offers everything from baked beans to fishing tackle, plus a laundry room and liquor store. There's a modest playground and a rec center across the street for swimming. This is a non-marijuana campground. We've seen local law enforcement doing drive-throughs. I've felt very safe here with two small children.
