The site was a pull through, rather level and a combination of small gravel and dirt. There was a clean fire ring and a wooden picnic bench. The campground was quiet, you are able to call in and order firewood and it is delivered to the site. The campground is very shady. It is a great location to visit Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid, and Plattsburgh.

We had requested a quieter site away from the hustle and bustle, but were given a site directly across from the bathroom and in a section with lots of tenters. The sites here were super tight, the pool was nothing special and the mini golf was underwater in sections. (still had to pay to play, though). Kicker was that we called on the way because we were going to arrive around 2pm - only after realizing while in route that this particular campground had a 3PM check in time (as opposed to every other campground that we've stayed at with a 1pm check in for RV/tent sites) and were promptly told that we would have to pay a $25 fee for early check in (ONE HOUR EARLY). Seriously? With no other option b/c we we had nowhere to go to wait it out, we paid the ridiculous fee. Upon arrival, we found LOTS of empty sites, not sure what the early check in fee was all about - not like we were putting anyone out with having to rush to clear a site. Sewer pipes had no threads, so had to secure the hose with rocks. Not what I expected, but we were there to see Lake Placid and the surrounding area, so it was a place to park.

The resort is large with a plenty of activities for the kids and trails on the property. Our site (row F) was a spacious pull thru with water and 30 amp hookups and relatively level. In the area that we were assigned, the sites are dirt and separated by trees with no undergrowth so we didn’t feel that it was private enough from adjoining sites. Got the feeling that the sites were overused from many campers. To the camp hosts credit, no trash lying about, fire ring was clean. There were other partial hookup sites that were more private so ask when booking. WiFi was very weak and barely worked. Better by the office. Bathroom were a little tired but clean in the early part of the day. Plenty of hot water in the shower. We stayed midweek in July, so it wasn’t too crowded. I can see weekends really filling up. Would return if able to book a different site.

This isn't a state park with bushes between each site. We Work from our RV during the summer and Cell Service is minimal on Verizon, but acceptable for Video with a Cell Booster. Campground wifi, not good enough to stream tv. Would consider again if we came back. Campground is very wooded, but didn't have an issue getting our 36' Class A in or out.

Most expensive campground I have ever stayed in and the least private site I ever had. Not a winning combination! My first and last KOA experience.

However, those same trees can make it difficult to access your site. A worker had to help us navigate some trees and give us tips for getting into our site. Once we were in, it was fine. The summit of Whiteface Mountain and the gondola ride up Little Whiteface Mountain are a must do. Also, the olympic facilities (ski jumping, bobsled, ice skating) are worth a visit. We watched the women's USA hockey team practice, which was great. If you are driving a fifth wheel or RV, be sure to check clearances since there is a low clearance bridge nearby.

If yo uare coming here from I-87 (Adirondack Northway) and pulling a camper, it can be better to come from the in from Exit 34, rather than 30. Exit 34 has some steep grades and tight switchbacks. Totally passable towing a camper, but if there is a possibility of icy conditions, exit 34 is less steep. Minutes from Whiteface mountain and 20 minutes to Lake Placid, in the summer they offer hay rides and have a swimming pool and ice cream shack. The rear of the campground has river access for fishing .. .etc .... wonderful place Internet coverage can be spotty. you're in the mountains ... get out and hike

I don't normally comment on directions but I'm mentioning it specifically because the route we took avoided 12% grades on 9N through Keene and Jay. The campground is heavily wooded and quiet. Lots of walking opportunities. A great dog walk and dog park. Good cable and strong 50 amp FHU. Bathrooms were single rooms with showers and clean. The area is beautiful with lots of hiking and outdoor activities. For shopping, you'll have to head into Lake Placid for groceries or whatever you need. There's not much by the campground.Wifi was typical crappy campground speeds at about 1-2d/l. For cell hotspots, you will need your booster. - ATT unboosted was bad (1-2d/l) but boosted with Weboost we got 11d/l speeds and 2.63 u/l. Verizon was not good at 1.29 d/l with booster. We used the ATT hotspot all week and it was reliable and maintained good speeds. The site we were in was advertised as a pull thru but this was not the typical KOA quality. Roads were tight and dirt and very rutted. The site was not a pull thru it was a pull in and back out because you could not make that turn if you pulled through. The site was not level, took quite a bit of negotiating to an odd angle to get fairly level. These are things I expect for a KOA at $55 night. Minimum is level easy to navigate site.
