This is hands down the worst campground we have stayed at. The owner is friendly and kind, however there are many long term residents here and nobody looks after their sites. The owner is friendly and kind, however there are many long term residents here and nobody looks after their sites. We had a corner site (thankfully) where we didn’t really have to look at anyones mess, but I would be lying if I didn’t say we felt uncomfortable for the duration of our stay. The check in office is like something out of the show, Hoarders - boxes and trash scattered everywhere. My intention is not to insult the owner or the residents, but to provide everyone who is considering a stay at Vanderpool to know exactly what they will get when staying here. Location is good and hookups were fine for the most part, with the exception of extremely low water pressure. We were woken up consistently throughout the night with residents revving their cars, trucks driving around, etc. Definitely not a family campground or a place to go to relax. I would never let my children roam alone here nor would I come back.

We used our AC on two days for about 2 hours a day then the weather got cooler. The meter said we used 11 units, which worked out to $13.20. Due to a leak on the water tap, our lot remained wet on the services side. But the right side was fine, picnic table on a raised platform.Sites are close together and there are many long term residents. Some resident sites could be cleaned and tidied up a tad. Campground has laundry which we used, and also showers and restrooms. The latter are long overdue for renovation but adequate.WIFI in the campground is GREAT. Better than the AT&T hotspot we normally use, though we still used it during a couple of WIFI failures. Place is like a graveyard at night, both in noise and lights. Not an issue for us, we could sleep at night with windows open and never a sound to break our snoozing.

  • Close to mountain activities and open year-round

It's a somewhat steep road that's loose gravel, so I would suggest going down to where the actual sign is for the camground is on 421 and following the arrows.
