We reserved a space six months in advance for a weeklong stay in June 2021. We requested a specific space, which was confirmed, and we booked for 7 nights because we were told that if you booked for 6 nights, the seventh night was free. Two days before our arrival, we got a "welcome" email that listed a different -- and less desirable -- site than we had reserved, and a higher rate. When we called, we were told that there had been a management change since our reservation was made, and that a specific space could only be reserved with the payment of an extra fee. They also said that the seventh night free offer was no longer in affect. We got no notice of either of those changes until this email two days before our arrival, when it was too late to change our plans. Those kinds of changes without any notice are morally and ethically wrong, to say the least. There are only a few spaces at this campground that have the views that reviewers talk about, and even those spaces have views that are obscured by other campers or trees. The rest of the campground is cramped, with narrow roads and very tight turns. And the facilities are nothing special. There are lots of other campgrounds in the Asheville area, and we would recommend booking at one of those, instead of Mama Gerties.

The only thing we wouldsay is to be very careful if you’re up on one of the premiere Mountain View sites when you’re pulling your trailer down exiting the CG - it can be seriously steep and a tight turn or two. The bathrooms were spotless and we loved the location of this place!

A word to the wise, they also said they would sue us if we gave them a bad review. Also, they threatened us that they would allege that we did some sort of illegal activity. The sites were a bit close, but they have privacy hedges growing between the sites. They also have a clean laundry room and helpful staff coming by to pick up daily trash, mow a little, and what ever else is needed. As said by others, this is a mountain campground, so you have to be comfortable driving your rig up a grade. It's worth it. Very easy to get to Ashville, and then return to a private, quiet campsite. They do seem very popular. Several other campers we talked with are repeat customers. They advertise wifi, but it was weak, so we had to use our hotspot for a zoom call, and for faster internet speed. Because of the wifi, I downgraded 1 star in 'quality'.

I gave them a $25 deposit and was told that there could be a “slight” increase and I agreed. They day BEFORE we were to arrive I received an email with 3 different policies and rules attached and a link to pay the balance. The new total was $458 – an INCREASE OF 45%. I called and was told that they did away with the weekly rate and also raised rates on our site from $45 to $65 per night. When I asked why someone didn’t call me they said they sent me an email. I told her the email that was sent linked to the main website and she acknowledged this. They then said that I received a link on Feb 4. Not true – I keep all emails and this one was never received. On principal I will not stay there and asked for my deposit back. She said well, since I called I can get a 10% AAA discount. Really? I booked in November and you sent me a link without any inkling of a discount but since I called…ugh. They will not give the deposit back. Even though they increased the rate 45% AND did not communicate this to me….wow!!! She said I could call and talk to the manager and try to get my deposit back. Now you want me to beg to get my $25 back? I think not. All I can say is you are trying to make as much as you can in an unethical way. I will definitely stay away and will encourage others to do the same.

So we decided to go back and stay longer this time, so we could both experience more of the area and stay on what we call "the mountaintop." We found the campground to be as fabulous as we remembered, and even better this time around because of our location. Our site was perfect. We literally watched the hills turn from brown to green in the time we were there. We saw amazing sunsets. The campground is immaculate. The laundry facility up top was convenient, clean and inexpensive. The staff is all so nice. Although there are no frills, such as a pool and a giant play area, we really prefer it that way. We generally prefer a state park atmosphere, but this is an RV park at it's finest in our opinion. And as full-timers, we see a lot of places. This is in our top for sure.

We had a nice experience with Mama Gertie's and would stay here again. There are three levels to the campground. The first is as you go up the hill past the office and these are campsites that were cut into the hillside on the upslope. These don't have any views, but have reasonable privacy and appeared to be very acceptable. The second level is a flat spot just above the first group of sites where they have a cut out on the side of the mountain. These seem to be a bit closer together and not quite as private, but are on a very flat spot. Seasonably, these might have a bit of a view. The third area is up on the higher part of the mountain side where we stayed, (site 32). This area has great views and some of the sites even have their own deck/balcony out over the mountain side. There is a nice new, clean bathhouse up there with a laundry. The road up to the campground is a bit narrow and winding, but it is only a 1/4 mile or less, so just take your time going up with your rig. This is a mountainside campground, so if you are intimidated by pulling your rig uphill or you are on the razor edge with tow capacity, you might want to think twice about Gertie's but we had no issue with the GMC 2500 HD and the Imagine 2150RB. There were all types of rigs on the mountain, so it is really no issue, everyone just needs to know that this is a mountainside campground and expect what goes with that. The staff was more than accommodating! Shannon was great in the shop and helped us move from one campside to another without a hitch. (we upgraded to a site with a view). James was very helpful getting us backed into our site. The campground is just off I-40 which is a blessing and a curse. You are off the interstate and in the campground in minutes but there is some interstate noise all the time. Not overwhelming, but being close to a main road usually has this to go with it. Pricing for the mountain top sites is a bit high but we felt that it was worth the price for the view. Prices are much more reasonable for the sites down below. Full hookups all worked perfectly. Cable is there but we used the wifi and stuck to Netflix as there was enough speed to stream.

It had the cleanest laundry room I've even seen at a campground and we are full timers so have been to many places. Washers seem new and large enough for a full load - $2 and dryer $1. The grounds are clean. There is a dog run area. The customer service was very friendly and professional and a nice gentleman escorted us on a golf cart to our site. The roads are uphill and a little narrow, but nothing too difficult if you go slow. Our site was level so easy to pull up and set up smoothly. WIFI / AT&T: Campground wifi was excellent and quick. We work remote and usually have to hotspot our phone for video calls, but didn't have to here because it worked so well. AT&T was 1 bar at our site, but it worked just fine for calls and never had an issue, including video calls and streaming. They have a fitness center, shower rooms, picnic tables and fire pit at every site. The pine trees help with a little privacy because you are tucked in pretty tight to one another. This is the only reason I'm not giving a 5 star. Good sam partners. Accessible to Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, and many other mountain towns for exploring.

As we got into Asheville, it started to snow and we knew we were in for a unique experience for our first night out. Check-in was simple and friendly, but we barely made it there before the office closed due to the weather on the roads. Our site #13 was an easy pull through, but everything here is uphill so you need to be prepared for that. It had a fire pit and nice rhododendron bushes between sites. We hooked everything up and realized we were out of propane! The office was already closed but we didn't have to go far at all to exchange the tank. We didn't end up using the water because of the freezing temperatures. We were better off just using the super clean facilities and keeping the RV winterized until our next stop.We had a great time here and hiked to the top in the morning to enjoy the gorgeous views with our coffee. There is a cute dog park area and lots of green space for playing and picnics. We thought the top area was closed because of the time of year, but saw a few campers up there so you might want to ask if it is open. The views are great!

BUT, you should feel comfortable driving on a steep narrow road to the entrance and within the campground. You should be comfortable maneuvering in tight sloped spaces with trees and rocks lining the road. There are three sections. The lower is very shaded by trees except for one site in the upper left hand corner. All the sites are terraced by the use of rocks. Your gravel site will be level. The middle tier has about five sites with some shade, but are rather close together. The third tier has no trees or screening and little spacing between sites. There is a great view of the mts, but you will hear more road noise from I -40 than from the other sites. There is a small dog park and little else for walking dogs. There are 3 tiers with the top tier having awesome mountain views everywhere you look. However, there is no shade, so that's the trade off, but we only had direct sun for a few hours each day, so wasn't bad at all. The lowest tier has shade at most sites with the middle tier having limited shade. The drive to the top tier was no big deal and totally doable. We were quite surprised by some reviews that mentioned how scary/bad the drive was. There is an escort to your site. The WiFi was excellent, the cable had plenty of channels, and we had good Verizon cell service. Our FHU, pull-thru site was gravel and level. There is an Ingles grocery, a CVS Pharmacy, post office, and a few restaurants a short, easy drive away. We stayed in a motorhome and would gladly stay here again.

We stayed in one of the top level deck sites and it was beautiful. It was a climb to get to the top level or any level of the park but it was worth it. The park is well kept and very clean. It seemed like the upper level was fairly new. Everyone at the park was really friendly and we met a lot of nice people there. The sites are crushed rock and level.Wifi/Cable: Cable – yes, Wifi – yes, but usage limitedHook-ups: Full hook-ups, 50 ampsDogs: Long walks involve a lot of hill climbing but the views are nice. No breed restrictions mentioned.Location: Easy access to the interstate and Asheville sites. It was about 20 min maybe to downtown Asheville. Ingles grocery store is about 10 min away.Ease of Access: After exiting I-40 there is a small two lane road for a short bit to access the park and big inclines once in the park. I would suggest unhooking toads before you get there as we had some difficulty unhooking while on an incline.Ease of Reservation: I think we were lucky to snag an opening. We even offered to site hop to extend our stay with no luck. No online reservations and we had to leave a message when we called.

All of the sites with decks and swings were taken but we will be staying at site 35 when we come back in the fall. Very quite a peaceful up here. The only downfall are the gravel sites, but that is what an outdoor may is for. They have great amenities- wifi with a great signal, cable- over 80 channels and sewer hookup at your site. Staff is very friendly and you are really close to Swannanoa for groceries and restaurants. If you like bbq, you have to check out Okie Dokie- some of the best bbq we have ever had.

Enough distance from the highway to kill the noise. Trees, native vegetation, a creek. Nice laundry and showers. Decent walking up and down the park with plenty of dog waste stations. Friendly and accommodating staff. We stayed down in the lower part of the campground so no expansive views but it's also quieter down there with more vegetation between the sites. Up top you get the views out across the valley but also pick up more noise from the Interstate. Both Verizon and AT&T were 4G and plenty fast for work and video calls.

They sit high on the ridge that over look everything else and spaces 34 - 38 have a deck with table chairs and swing. Each space comes with a fire pit which is awesome. The folks are super helpful and sites up top are super clean. there a few site at the bottom which are clear as well but we've never stayed down there. the sites up top are large and spacious. the only drawback if there is any is the uphill climb but more than manageable. We have a 30 foot Airstream so with truck we have about 50 foot of pull. alway ask for 33 thru 38 but 27 - 32 are almost as good all have great view!
