Went online to reserve and pay ($30 fhu, incl. 50 amp), but stopped short until we could make sure the ped would be unlocked. Called the after hours number. Left 2 messages. Guy next to us told us he had been leaving messages since 1230. No answer and no one to unlock the pedestal. So, I contacted the police since it was a city rodeo grounds. They had no idea what to do. So, we stayed in the spot and used no services. Nice warm evening, and a/c would have been nice!I would give it a 5* if not for that! I would suggest contacting someone at the number on their website before going. We were sorely disappointed. There were no events going on, either. I imagine if there were, there would be no place to park!

We had some trouble finding the location because the roads are so new they don’t show up on Apple Maps. Even though it is right off the highway you have to go way down and around to get to the entrance. The park itself is very clean, and orderly. The sewer is way at the back of the sight which made hooking up a little tricky but doable. Overall a very nice campground.

There were only 2 other campers here. You get a little highway 60 noise but it worked for me. Heed the directions to enter from the east. You pay online and take note of which avenue you picked. I deducted one star for no wifi. There is possibly two addresses but no mention of a password so I couldn't use it.

A couple of tips… the posts next to the site says if it is 30 or 50 amps. Be sure to take the rodeo drive, not 60…. The entrance on 60 has a closed gate.

A handful of trees add a bit of relief to this large gravel lot at the Socorro rodeo grounds. It was just us and about two dozen horse trailers for the rodeo event going on the weekend. There's good wifi internet, power and water at each site. If you want to stay in the area and explore a bit, this is a good place to base.

Put Fairgrounds Road in the GPS. Access is from Hwy-1, Frontage Road South, at the top of the first hill as you head south from town. There is a sign at the intersection. This apparently unnamed road becomes Rodeo Drive when it crosses Fairgrounds Road. Bear right when you get onto the gravel, and go to the right of the covered horse pens. The campground is gravel, and poorly drained. There were large puddles and running streams each time it rained. The sites are very short. I had to park my tow vehicle in the next site, and then put it at an angle across the end of my site when the campground filled up.When I booked my stay here, I didn't know it was to be a rodeo weekend. Check the rodeo ground schedule before you book. I was the only camper on Wednesday night. A few horse trailers came in Thursday, and then most came in overnight. When I got up Friday morning, the campground was full of horses.Friday and Saturday were tolerable, except for growing amounts of manure throughout the campground. Things deteriorated Sunday evening after the rodeo. I will just say that I communicated with the city director of sports and recreation the next day, and I was assured that in the future, the police will patrol the campground during events to deal with noisy behavior and drunkenness.Verizon 4G was rather slow, but there was free campground wifi, which was very fast, even when the campground was full during the rodeo. I got the password from an employee who came out to greet me when I arrived. I have given my star ratings as if there had been no rodeo. It would be unfair to do otherwise. If it had not been for the rodeo, for which of course the campground was built, it would have been a very pleasant stay.

Don't be fooled looking at Google Earth and seeing a couple of gates on the west side. They are not used.Full hookups with a mix of full 50amp and 30amp sites. Power size is labeled on the hookup poles. You can reserve and pay online. I didn't see anyplace to pay at the grounds so simply pulled in, picked out a space and then registered online.Close to multiple interesting places. The Very Large Array (VLA) satellite farm (in the Contact movie) is about 50 miles west. Fascinating museum and tour. In town the NM Tech college has a great gemology collection. Couple of smaller museums open on a limited basis. Basque del Apache is close by for the return of the cranes in early November. And if you are there the first Saturday in April and October you tour the Trinity atomic test site. interesting factoid is that in the town square of Socorro is a piece of the Jumbo bomb case which was at the Trinity explosion.
