The museum is a lot of fun and very interesting as well.Small town of Raton has several nice restaurants and shops.

It was our first time here and we found it friendly, affordable, clean and convenient. You do hear shooting off in the distance but that was to be expected and it didn’t affect our enjoyment. The black bears did come around to look for food and water as did the deer. We had no issues. It’s a nice campground with full hookups, Reasonably spaced apart sites. Bathrooms were clean. The laundry room was just average and the dryer was loud- could use some work. We had a great stay and would go back.

We took advice from another review on this site and reserved a spot on the outer loop of the West campground. Our site was sunny in the afternoon as the sun set. We were on the west side of the outer loop of the West campground. Next time we will try to get a site on the east side of the West campground on an outer loop so the afternoon sun will set behind us and we will more likely have shade at least from our trailer. There are beautiful views and deer roaming through the camp site every morning and evening. We were there during COVID so the rv park was at 50% capacity or less so it was very quiet. We will definitely go back! It's a beautiful facility too. There is a ghost town to visit, a museum and gift shop.
Quiet park with good views.

Groomed dirt roads brings you to the campground as you pass many shooting range and a restaurant. We had full hookups and a picnic table. This site was leveled enough for our need. We had a great view from our site and had good cell reception with Verizon. If you have enough down time, you can go to the range and shoot a few rounds. The receptionist/front desk person was very nice in helping us. Would stay here again. Price: $27 for 30amp with full hookups.

There are about 17 different ranges, although I didn't partake in any of those activities. It is relatively quiet even when the shooting ranges are being utilized and all range activities end before evening. Even with the shooting, there are still a lot of wildlife in the immediate area. There are two RV campgrounds and a primitive campground. The two RV campgrounds, East (30 amp) and West (50 amp) have full hookups. The East CG has a shower, bathroom and laundry facility but the West does not have any facilities. It is an easy drive (or walk) over to the East CG facilities. The East CG, about $3 cheaper per night, is very open with space between the sites, but not much in the way of trees or other privacy. The West CG has some pull thru sites in the middle and is ringed by additional pull thru sites that had the most privacy. I really recommend the West CG, even for a bit more money, and to request a site on the outer ring. The primitive CG would possibly fit small trailers but it appears to cater towards tents as only a few of the sites are not sloped. There is other housing available in the form of cabins but I did not explore these. If you are a hiker, there are perhaps a few short trails and their literature states that they are working on more hiking trails. It rained most of our stay so hiking was limited. There would be also the option to hike at Sugarite Canyon SP if weather permits.
