Sadly, just before we got there they closed Sitting Bull and massive sections of Guadalupe due to potential fire conditions. The sites were spacious. We had a patio with a swing and table and chairs. Their pool is basic but it was fun to get wet for an hour or two. Staff was friendly and we liked that they picked up your trash every morning. No kitchen so we couldn’t try out their food. The other parks in the area had no grass or trees and looked like barren waste lands. This koa has some grass at each site, and at least nice big mature trees to sit under. I liked that they had a little weather station that we could check on current winds and stuff. It was dusty and windy for all of the days except our last day and it was a nice break from all the wind. We would come back.

Really nice KOA with spacious sites. Very clean and well maintained. The only problem which may not be there fault, might be just New Mexico, sands spurs everywhere, locals call them goat heads. Dogs can’t stand them. Would definitely stay here again

We ended up extending our stay one day on both ends because of a storm and had no trouble doing so. (It helped that the park was only half full). They provided a helpful sheet of hints to get through the freezing weather without damaging our RV. The showers were great - good pressure, and the bathrooms were clean. We were able to refill our propane twice while there. It was nice that they had propane on site because there is nothing near them. We had to drive 25 min to the nearest grocery store (to any business actually) Carlsbad caverns are about an hour away. I had only 1 bar for AT&T, but my husband said Verizon was better.

  • Better options available closer to Carlsbad Caverns.

Hotspots have strong signals so all good for work.Site is really spacious with fire pit. But, not all that nice. Gravel sites with an average living area.Lots of space behind and between spots. So, that is nice.Nearest place to get food, groceries, and gas is downtown Carlsbad. So, 18 miles away, I believe.Lots of dogs off leash in the long-term resident area and the staff didn't seem to care. That might mean different things to different folks, I think.

There were some shade trees around most of the sites. The sites and roads were gravel and with the high winds the campground was quite dusty. The campground is about 50 minutes from the Carlsbad Caverns so a bit of a hike, but there weren't too many choices closer. It's also about 20 minutes from Carlsbad if you need groceries or other supplies. The campground is located in a flat unremarkable part of the desert. There was very little view.A couple of evenings one camper was playing tunes which we could hear easily while sitting outside. We called the staff who promised to look in to it, but nothing seemed to change.

We stayed here 3/29 - 4/1/21. Nice spacious pull through sites with full hookups. Very windy, so keep an eye on those awnings, folks. 1st full day there there was a bad grass fire between the park & Lake Brantley. Fortunately the winds were in our favor and the park didn't get smoked out. Very clean and well kept.

Couldn't hear any noise from the highway at all, and the Wifi was spotty. We went to visit Carlsbad Caverns which were incredible to say the least, it told us about 50 min. We decided to get there early since it was a weekend, we arrived just before they opened at 8am and there was already a line. Took the natural opening way, which you walk down 750 ft (really neat), took about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Enjoyed out stay would stay there again.

The staff/hosts do an excellent job making their campground shine. The cons:The campground is fairly far from the “local attractions”. (This issue is a con for most but others will love it). The bathrooms are not kept stocked and since I never saw the empty toilet paper rolls replace, I’m assuming they check it on some weekly basis. The pros:The majority of the staff is very friendly. The campground itself seems to be maintained fiery nicely. The campground is far enough off the road that the highway noise is minimal. In general, I would be happy to recommend this one to anyone passing through.

It's a little out there - 20 mins to the nearest grocery store, an hour to Carlsbad Caverns, an hour to Roswell - and it's right off a busy highway. Not the prettiest place in the world but it was a good home base for visiting the caverns and Roswell. It was exactly what you'd expect from a KOA. Big, level sites, easy access, and friendly staff. We went in early February and the place was mostly empty. Important: the water here is very hard and is really off tasting. We use an external dual filter and a brita for our drinking water, and it was still undrinkable. We ended up buying jugs of water to use. Our tank sensors stopped working and only read as full, which started the first day we got there (we're assuming that the mineral buildup caused this). Even after traveling with solution in the tanks, our sensors are still not working one week later. This is the first and only time this has happened. If you stay here, use water softener!! And bring separate drinking water.

It's not exactly close, being 18 miles from Carlsbad and another 30-odd miles to the park. The campsite is large and the gravel sites are level, pull through and spaced well apart, which was nice. We visited in April 2019, and due to the oil/gas boom in the Permian Basin nearby, many of the campsites appeared more permanently occupied by oilfield workers and their families. This KOA is located along the now busy Hwy 285, so there is some traffic noise. The location is flat and exposed and therefore very windy/dusty. Camp staff were friendly and welcoming and we did opt for their on-site BBQ one night which was very good. However the tap water, despite multiple filtrations, tasted pretty bad, so don't rely on your in-line filter. Campground Wi-Fi better than most. Check out Milton's Brewing in Carlsbad for friendly locals and good beer.

RV sites and roads are wide making it very easy to maneuver. RV sites are very long and wide. The only negative to mention- this is typical of many RV Parks in the area- is the dust. The entire site is gravel/limestone. After asking, locals let us know that Spring time is known for the windy days. 15-25 mph is not unusual, 50 mph or higher is possible. Windy days make it almost impossible to be outside. Plan on cooking indoors. There are many amenities at this location; typical of a KOA park: pool, bikes, gift shop, large covered outdoor area, etc. We liked this location as we were centrally located between Carlsbad and Roswell.

The on-site store had a selection of camping essentials, some food items, souvenirs, as well as local artwork. The essentials were priced higher than outside stores (as expected for most campgrounds). The staff provided a map and travel tips to local attractions. Price included cable and WiFi (coverage and speed was better than most campgrounds). Our price reflected a 10% KOA discount. Sites were gravel, but level and pull through.
