Over Labor Day, from our unobstructed view of mountains, wildflower meadows and pine forest (site 704), we were serenaded nightly by elks bugling. The campground is meticulously landscaped and FULL of flowers (posting a photo because it’s unbelievable). From the Clubhouse, we enjoyed free afternoon snowcones and evening S’mores around the fire pit. Sign up to have waffles delivered to your doorstep for breakfast (free, again). Play Pickleball. Listen to live music. Soak in the hot tub. The place is authentically a resort, unlike any campground we’ve ever visited. And Angel Fire must be where they invented the name “Enchanted Circle”— because the valley is just magical.

We eventually moved to a park in Taos as it served as a better Basecamp to explore The Enchanted Circle, was much cheaper and Taos has so much more to offer in 10 mins.

The follow up by the park was good. I followed the instructions to check in and that worked great. The follow up call from the park was a wonderful touch. Check in and the valet to the spot was awesome but the most wonderful thing was the promise of free waffles! That is right. I’m not making it up. It isn’t some bait and switch for a silly little stroop thing. This was a major bonus that will go down in Tommy’s memory just like the real one went into my belly. Everything is spotless, the amenities are wonderful, great views and prices are reasonable too!

The word resort is an apt description, with a relaxed country club atmosphere.I paid the top rate for one of the five executive spaces so I could have the increased seclusion, but there is not a bad site in the entire resort. Check in was easy and professional. Site access was very easy for my 44 foot fifth wheel. The pad site was very long with plenty of room left over to drop the rear gate and unload the Harley without encroaching the drive on either end. All roads are paved and the concrete sites level. The clubhouse, laundry and bathhouse are all very high finish out and very clean. Gated entry and secured perimeter. Valet garbage pickup. The landscaping is first rate, and the park is quiet. Large dedicated dog runs and various dedicated sport or gaming areas. Management is very attentive. There simply is no room for improvement.

I've boondocked in some pretty remote areas where I wasn't sure how I managed to even get my 38' big rig to fit. Now after staying at AFRV Resort this is the complete other end of that spectrum. Here are some of the amenities you will find.-Pull through spaces-Great Wifi -Verizon and AT&T full bars-full hookups-mountain and valley views all around-pickle ball-great dog park-electric scootersThis is truly 'glamping' at its finest. A few things to keep in mind though. The email confirmation I got from AFRV Resort says this: We are a Fifth Wheel and Motorhome Only ResortPop-Up Campers and Tent Camping are not allowed.RVs must have an indoor bathroom and kitchen.RVs 15 years & older require pictures for approval.Just wanted to share that in case you have a travel trailer or older 5er. Also, keep this in mind when getting there...When driving from TX/OK direction, route to Clayton, NM first THEN Angel Fire. You do not want to come up Hwy 518 or 434 through Mora and definitely not Hwy 120 through Ocate! These routes are narrow roadways that are difficult to navigate with an RV. (this is also included in the email from AFRV Resort)Space 501 was a great spot. Close to the dog park a great view of the mountains to our west and east. There is a large grass meadow to the south that I'm sure the elk visit at dawn/dusk. If you want a chance to get a clear view of that meadow and the elk, then I'd reserve a space in the 700sLastly, we stayed here in late April. It still gets pretty cold at night, below freezing, so be sure to disconnect your water line at night or it might freeze.

It has been on our list for sometime and we really enjoyed all the top amenities this resort has to offer: reliable WiFi, super clean bathroom facilities, complimentary waffle breakfast, outdoor firepits, and the list goes on and on. All sites are spacious, all include full hookups, and even have valet garbage pickup in the mornings. We were able to head into Taos which is about 45 mins, so very easy to take a day trip and do a little shopping and sightseeing. Recommend doing the Enchanted Circle Drive on your way back from Taos, which will take you to Red River and Eagle Nest towns, beautiful views. We loved Angel Fire RV Resort!

There is also a store with camping/RV supplies such as levelers, tiedowns, etc. There is a 1 mile long path around the periphery of the campground. From the campground you look down the valley to the community of Angel Fire and all the surrounding mountains. We were there during the Angel Fire Balloon Rally attended by 38 hot air balloons. The launch site is East and below the campground so we could enjoy the launch while enjoying complimentary coffee and donuts. There is also a dog park where pets can run around and play with each other. All the employees we met were very friendly and helpful. Trash is picked up at each site between 8 and 9 AM each day. This is one of the best campgrounds we have ever been in.

Be aware that it is at around 8500' elevation and if you come from the west, you will actually climb to about 9100' and go back down to 8500' to get there. AMENITIES:Sites were level and well maintained. Really nice facilities; the showers were hot with great pressure. They have two laundry rooms with brand new machines (as of April 2016). They have an outdoor hot tub and fire pit at the RV park but neither were open at the time we were there due to it still being cold out. You do get access to the Angel Fire Lodge which has a good indoor pool and hot tub. There is also a playground called Olympic Park for kids if you drive over to the Angel Fire Country club in town. TIMING:We stayed early April and it was still pretty cold, in fact there was snow on the ground when we arrived. Due to being sort of off season some of the facilities were closed but looked nice. EATS:We ate at the Angel Fire Lodge Restaurant one night. It was very good, but hotel restaurant prices. We also at at H2 Uptown restaurant which we highly recommend, and was also a little pricey. But, we went during happy hour and they had great appetizers at great prices. Most all of the restaurants are closed in this town during April. These were really the only two we found open.SUMMARY:Overall, we would stay again for sure, but we would probably do it during warmer weather. We enjoyed the resort and the area for the little time we had while passing through. Taos, NM is also pretty close and is a cool little town to visit and do some hiking in.
