The park has three sections to it: the section east of the office building is the newer sections with full hookup sites and a number of premium sites with patio furniture and swinging chairs. The section west of the office (on your right as you drive into the park) has the older RV sites with just water and electric hookups, along with several cabins, and finally the western end of the park contains the majority of the tent camping sites. We stayed in the west section, in pull-through site 134. Unlike most KOAs, they do not guide you to your site but just provide you with a map and directions. The sites in this section were fairly typical for a KOA but some sites are trickier to get into than others. Most folks simply needed to assess the situation and enter the site slowly, but one fifth-wheeler had to get a little creative due to the street light at the back of his site: he ended up pulling through the empty neighboring site and then backing his way into the pull-through. The sites in this section are gravel and separated by grass, and ours at least was pretty level. Every morning staff members set up sprinklers to water the grass at vacated sites. This KOA has quite a few amenities. The office contains a convenience store with a decent variety of food and drink items, as well as some RV supplies and souvenirs. The office is also the place to go to check out (at no charge) golf balls and clubs to use on the simple but elegant mini-golf course across the street from the office. The east side of the office has a few bathrooms and changing rooms for the pool and hot tub located on the other side of the mini-golf course, and behind the office is a small laundry building and a single hoop basketball court. There is a larger bathhouse on the west side of the campground. Next to the pool is a brand-new playground for smaller kids. Strangely one typical KOA amenity was absent: propane refills. The campground has its own permanent food “truck” in the form of a Jayco fifth-wheel occupying a site across from the office. It specializes in breakfast sandwiches but also serves burgers. Campers can either place an order online or via a laptop on the porch of the RV. On certain mornings a food truck serving coffee will park behind the office, and every evening ice cream is sold by the scoop in front of the office. The campground does have a dog park but it’s small, frankly too small for a campground of this size. So when we needed to take our dogs for a serious walk, we ended up using the short trail that leads from the back of the campground down to the shore of the Yellowstone River (the river is not visible from the campground): that area has plenty of open space for walking dogs.In terms of cell service, the best speeds I got on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna during our stay were 45Mbps down and 12Mbps up, and we had no trouble steaming video at any point during our stay. The one speed test I did with my AT&T phone showed 54Mbps down and 17 up. We would stay here again if we return to this area.

Our slide-outs were almost hitting the picnic table on our left side and the people with the class A on our right side kept apologizing for their slides encroaching on our site. That said, it wasn't a problem because we didn't spend much time milling about our campsite area. We went for walks along the river(there is a nice path from the campground to access the river), swimming in the pool and playing mini golf. The mini golf was really nice, and a major upgrade from the shoddy mini golf at the Rushmore KOA we had just left. Pool was OK, hot tub was hot but would not bubble, it happens. Laundry facility was good. There's definitely no 10 year rule here either, as there were some "interesting" campers on the backside near the pond area ;-) The sites on the North side of the park with the patios are more like what you would expect. Know also, that the sites along the river do not have a view of the river. I'd call it a little pricey for what you get, so if you're going to spend the money, spend the extra $15-$20 and get sites 1-12, those were very nice. It was quiet and we overslept because the campground is shaded by trees and the bluff to the east.

The “ deluxe” sites on one side are a little nicer, but the older section has miserably tight roads/spots and don’t offer sewer hookup. In this older section up against the river is for full time guests. Several trailers are in deplorable condition with tar paper on roofs and one trailer has a wooden roof atop of the trailer. There space around some of the trailers has junk/trash all outside. The campground doesn’t seem to care and allows this unsightly filth that obviously has been there for awhile. Would not recommend this campground!

The sites are close together, especially in the lower-priced section (we started our stay in site 135 but moved when we extended our reservation). We only gave this 3 stars overall because of the other guests. This feels a bit like dinging a site because of the weather however we feel it needs to be mentioned. There is no restriction on RV type and we saw some sketchy rigs with equally sketchy owners. One had clearly been abandoned for years only to be dug out and dragged into the park. It was still caked with dirt and moss, the suspension was broken and it was nearly dragging the ground. Once they got it parked they set up a full-size washer/dryer outside and a deep freeze. Another guest had white-supremacist tattoos and an unleashed pitbull named "Aryan" that he kept yelling at and telling it to stay away from people. The staff didn't take any action. With that out of the way, the pool was large and kept clean. The hot tub was green but seemed clean otherwise. Mini-golf is definitely worth checking out! It must have been recently renovated, it was in great shape and got lots of use.We could not use our electrical system, it kept tripping our EMS with "Low Voltage" and the maintenance staff were unable to fix it. They were apologetic and since they were completely full we couldn't be moved. Also, the water pressure was low so we kept our water pump on.If you need to be in Billings there aren't a lot of options and they are all expensive so this park is no exception, we just expected to not have so many problems.

Rumor has it this is the first KOA ever. It is a standard KOA quality RV park with nothing to rave over. The price is outrageous for what you get. We stayed here between Yellowstone and North Dakota - one-night stopover. There are some good food options in the park and in Billings. Find somewhere else to stay and save some money.

Big clean and organized. I don’t have kids but I see why parents would seek out KOA. Pools, put put golf, ice cream, breakfast barbecue style. I appreciated a off the beaten path spot near the river and dog walk. Clean bath and showers. Good WiFi and phone service. Friendly help. Covers it, right!

There is a pool and spa plus a little putt-putt golf course. Also an ice cream cart which is nice in the summer. The wifi was not great but acceptable (after awhile I disconnected as it seemed to be slower than just using cell). The site itself was pretty bad. Like it was something else before it was a campsite and they never bothered to level it out. It sloped to the left and was about a foot off of level in the middle. So higher at the front and back, sloping to the left and because of all this the grass was super saturated by water. In the middle, as I mentioned it was about a foot lower than the front or back. I hope I'm providing a decent explanation. Using a tent would be a no-go, with a small camper you will need a whole bunch of leveling blocks to get set up flat. The power and water hookups worked just fine. The sites are pretty jammed together so you'll get a chance to love your buddy for sure but after dark the place really quieted down and was just fine.NOW the real highlight of our night in billings was "The Last Chance Pub and Cider Mill" https://www.lastchancecider.com/food. The "Father-In-Law" sandwich is large enough for two and is worth the drive to Billings just for that. They have a nice selection of ciders that you'll not find anywhere else, it's close to the KOA and the service was outstanding. We sat at the bar and never wanted for a refill. If you go to the KOA do yourself a favor and have a Father-In-Law sandwich at The Last Chance Pub and Cider Mill.

My husband had to travel to Minneapolis for work for a few days and the Billings airport, with its direct flight to MSP, was along our route. There aren't a lot of options in Billings, so we went with the KOA as opposed to the unknown Yellowstone River Campground just down the street. We were pleasantly surprised when we pulled in at how nice this property is! Their website pictures are true to form -- nicely manicured, great little mini golf, decent size pool -- you name it. We paid $67.50, which is with the KOA member discount. We actually became KOA members when we booked this stay because it was cheaper for us to pay the $30 and get the 10% discount than it was for us not to. We didn't get the most expensive site, but we also didn't get the cheapest site. Ours had water and electric only, but also had a patio with picnic table, fire pit, and porch swing. It's a super long site that allowed us to park our truck on either end of our 28' Airstream. We utilized many of the amenities during our stay. The bathrooms are so, so nice and we used them multiple times to shower seeing as we weren't hooked up to sewer. We played mini golf once and it's a nice little course, though $5 a pop is a little much. We ate breakfast once at the onsite Pistol Pete's BBQ and I think it was worthy of the $9.95 price. We sat by the pool a few times, but the water really is too cold to do anything but put your legs in. The store is also very nice with food and camping necessities as well as souvenirs that aren't cheesy.I should note that we stayed here over the 4th of July holiday, from a Saturday to a Saturday (the 4th was on Wednesday). They always seemed to be busy but had a lot of turnover. We had many different neighbors on either side of us throughout the week. I don't know if that's normal or because of the holiday, but it seemed most people stayed for two nights max.The KOA is in a GREAT location in regards to downtown Billings. You can be at a great restaurant in about 7 minutes. Two I recommend are Walkers and The Fieldhouse. Everything you could need is within a 10-15 minute drive -- grocery store, gas station, Target, hospital, vet clinic, museum, baseball, etc. Even the airport is only a 13-minute drive from the KOA!There are two small things that I didn't care for:1) There are cottonwood trees everywhere. It was great to have shade because of the heat, but this is the time of years they lose their 'cotton' so there was a fluffy white layer on everything. Ot of their control, I know, but annoying nonetheless.2) Our utility hookups were so far into the site next to us and same with our neighbors utility hookups. (See picture.) My fear was that one of the many kids that occupied the neighboring site during the week would pull our electric cord and we'd lose A/C (we have a dog to worry about) and it almost happened. A little guy had his hands on the little door that flips open when his dad caught him and grabbed him.In conclusion, great place to stay. If we were to ever pass through Billing again, I would definitely stay here.P.S. I'm giving five stars on noise because most of the week it was fine. However, the night of the 4th, fireworks were going off until 12:30am, even though fireworks aren't allowed in the city of Billings. I don't know where they were being lit off (inside the KOA, outside the KOA), but it was very loud.

This one wasn't an exception on the pricing ($38 a night to park in a grass area with no sewer) but the park itself was a lot nicer then most KOA's I had been to.The roads were nice and perfect for an afternoon bike ride. The nicer sites (closer to $50 a night) were very long and could accommodate the largest of todays rigs, they also had a nice firepit and outside seating area. The park was right on the river, had a pond within the park, a dedicated dog area (albeit on the small side) and a really nice, fully featured putt putt course.I wouldn't go to Billings just to stay at this park, but if we were in Billings again I would have no problem staying there. We were there in late Sept., so the park wasn't super busy, which was nice. I think it would feel a tad crowded if it was full.[Actual stay 09/28/16]
