We went to Eunice to experience Mardi Gras in true Cajun style. It is a five day festival culminating with all the festivities on Fat Tuesday. It was a great experience and had it not been for that, we would not have stayed as long as we did. We reserved for 2 weeks but left after 11 days. We didn’t ask for a refund as the price was fair enough. Entering the campground is the first challenge. The gravel road around the lake is full of potholes with little room to navigate around them. The posted speed limit of 5 mph is easy to adhere to as any faster would risk the loss of teeth. The road through the campground is no better and due to the rainy weather, it became a muddy roadway. We were given a spot in the front circle which are all grass with some gravel. The spots are level, but muddy. This place needs to be re-graveled. Several spots had cement pads for picnic tables and fire rings were provided. At one point, the owner knocked on our door. I thought he was reminding us of a pot luck for that night, but instead he asked me to move my truck so another trailer could park perpendicularly to us. Never had that before. Several of the spots were set up that way. It would work if you were traveling with others but it took any privacy away from the already open area we had. The campground advertises unlimited free WiFi which turned out to be almost non existent any time of day or night. Laundry facility was clean and at $1 per wash and $1 per dryer was very fair. The bathrooms were another story being very dirty and lacking in TP. My wife walked into the ladies room and turned right around. There is a pool that has been neglected and very green, a mini golf course that was muddy and overgrown and many of the campers walked their dogs and did not clean up after them. The campground has many longer term residents who were all very nice, but many of them went to work very early in the morning and their diesel trucks were loud as they drove through. Road noise from the main road was prevalent day and night. It was only drowned out by the freight trains that also could be heard, whistle and all at all hours including 1-3 and 5 am. All of the people we met there, including the staff in the office were very nice and friendly. It would have been nice had the owner, who resides on site and can be seen all day on his cart, would have shown some of the same friendliness.
