We have a 38 foot class C and even though the sites aren't angled, it was pretty easy to back in. There are mature trees on about every site, The camp store is well stocked (even with beer). The wifi was strong enough for us to stream a movie over Netflix with no buffering. The International Museum of the Horse and the KY Horse Park are just a short 15 minute walk from the campground. Zero road noise. The only drawback is that there is no sewer hook up. However, they do have two dump stations on the way out.

Their site says they can accommodate big rigs, and we have been doing this for a long time now, but it just couldn’t be done. Our 44’ Momentum was not wedging in their site. There are posts and trees as obstacles, and for the very first time, we abandoned the effort and went to a Cabelas. Thank God for Cabelas!Probably fine for up to 30’, but if you have a big rig, skip it. Very disappointing.

But over the last 2 years they have concentrated on keeping campers out of the Horsepark itself. They have also placed fencing in places that don't necessarily need to be there limiting on foot activity in the campground. Side x Sides tear up parts of the primitive area ( last time visited), although they plainly state they are not allowed. They should mark off an area just for side by side activity if going to allow in campground and park. The campsites are muddy and need some work done. 3 to 4 inches of rain stands in some sites due to lack of maintenance. They just throw straw down and go on. They need to put gravel in the areas adjacent to the pads so you don't tread mud into your rig. Even outdoor rugs are messy if used in those sites. They need to sow some grass in some areas. They could add a small dog park or place doggy bag stations, one in each loop midway for campers with pets.It is slowly not the nice place to camp that it once became in the early years around 2014 and later. Manager, although same for few years does not take an interest in making it clean, neat and nice as in earlier years. Also, their have been times when the host in semi private won't let others hook to the multiple water and electric hookups they are stationed at, limiting availability to at least 2 more camping parties. They worry more about stopping good under age golf cart drivers than watching property destruction by other vehicles. They also do make a difference in the young horse patrons under age golf cart drivers. They drive freely, but camping patrons under age drivers do not.

Plenty of room between sites but would be tight and slender parking pavement for the big rigs. Clean showers. Our only complaint is the lack of paths to and from the showers. When camped on the outer loops the campground expects you to drive or ride something instead of providing the typical cut-through to the restrooms. Busy weekends.

This is a very popular campground and was full on the weekends. Check in is at the campstore in the middle of the campground. We had to wait half an hour or so while they inspected the sites. We chose A23 because it said it backed to polo fields which I thought would be interesting, but instead it backed to some abandoned tractor trailers and no view of the fields. Sites closer to campground road in loop A and D did have views of the eventing fields and stadium. There is a pool, tennis courts, basketball court, two playgrounds, but the draw for us was being next to the horse park. Staying at the campground allowed us to purchase a 2 day ticket to the horse park during the winter season for $9, including parking. Since it was close to opening day, we got to see the shows practice and an event in the stadium. It is walking/biking distance to the park if the weather is nice. The campsites leave a LOT to be desired. They are extremely narrow and short, although they are described as 45 feet long and 15 feet wide. Most campers wheels are on the edges of the asphalt and many are not able to fit their tow vehicle on the pad with the camper. Many of the sites are VERY unlevel front to back and side to side. There are cars, trucks, golf carts, etc. parked everywhere between the sites and it makes it feel very crowded and turns the grass between sites into a giant mud pit especially with all the rain we had. The campground has been changing the water to be able to leave it on in the winter so had laid straw all around the campsites including right up against the fire pits. If it weren't for the rain, this could have been hazardous as the campers next to us kept throwing the straw into their fire pit to get a big blaze and it was igniting the straw surrounding the fire pit since the fire pits are open on the bottom and the straw was laid close to it.The inspection of the campsites before check-in seemed pointless, because the site next to us checked out and their campfire was still smoking and smoldering and full of cans and bottles, etc. that were not dealt with by the campground staff checking the sites. Verizon was pretty useless in our site when the park was full, even with a booster, although worked great in the middle of the night and in the middle of the week when it was emptied out. There didn't appear to be enough bandwidth for the volume of use, although we had enough bars. There is a tower behind the D loop, so we got a better signal walking over there. Also, campground wi-fi was weak in our location and better on the opposite side of the campground and closer to the campstore.

  • A horse & holiday heaven.

As noted by numerous previous reviewers, not all campsites here are level or reasonably able to be leveled in for bigger rigs (I'm looking at you, even-numbered sites 221-228). We were pleased with site 215 (207-217 all appeared reasonably level). Our site offered 30A/50A, water, and sewer - although the water was shut off during our stay. During the winter, water is shut-off to all available campsites here. There are fill stations at the large, easily accessible dump stations. The bathhouse is also impeccably clean and features hot, well-pressured showers. There is a laundry room with a few washers and dryers at a reasonable price. The sites are narrow asphalt pads surrounded by grass. During the winter season, this campground is quiet. We were not lucky enough to be in town during any major horse events taking place at the Horse Park next door, so only about half of the campsites were full on the weekend. We were treated to window views of the drive-through lights show, with lighting fixtures set throughout the campground creating a really nice holiday atmosphere from 5 pm - 10 pm every evening. Of course, this did also create traffic if you wished to re-enter the park between those hours on busy light show evenings (Friday and Saturday), but we didn't mind. We just appreciated the free light show and planned to move slowly into the park. The park offers a first-come, first-served field with electric outlets for camping in rigs or tents of all sizes. This is a grassy area, however, and might get soft with rain. During our stay, there were a few large rigs in the field that looked to be staying for a while. I would call ahead to access the accessibility and availability of this area before arriving - especially on Horse Event weekends. The campground featured great running, walking, and biking access. The Legacy Trail is paved and runs from the campground entrance into the city, or out around the Horse Park. The Horse Park itself offers a running/walking trail that is well signed and features 3.1 miles of path along the Cross County course, barns, and pastured fields of horses. Verizon data service was on point here - plenty functional to engage in video conferencing.

This was a very quiet park for the time of the year we went in. The D loop is the only area of the campground open this time of year for camping but only electricity at the sites, no water. They have 3 dump stations where you can take on water. They had the Christmas lights on at this campground as well and made our night even better as you get to see them for no cost :-) enjoy!

Since the main campground doesn't have sewer hookups, you are basically only sacrificing a water hookup to camp in the primitive electric area, but paying a few bucks less. I was amazed at how unlevel most of the sites in the main CG are. Strolling thru, I have never seen so many sets of wheels dangling off the pavement of the (rather narrow) pad. The open fields of the primitive electric area are MUCH more level. The primitive electric area has limited shade (unlike the main CG which does has many trees), but mostly unlimited space for campers to spread out and enjoy their site in relative quiet. There are 30 amp pedestals scattered about and, as far as I can tell, no real rules on where you can set up camp. It seems as long as you can reach a pedestal, you are good to go.There are many, many things to do in the Lexington and central Kentucky area, both touristy and everyday living. Most campers likely wouldn't be spending a huge amount of time in camp while in the area.Personally, I really can't see why anyone would opt for the crowded, unlevel and aging main campground here.

We were really excited about all of the amenities and things to do while here in Kentucky. It has volleyball courts, a pool, tennis, and basketball! And the price is so cheap for it all. However once we got a closer look we realized the price was fair. The pool is nice, but very buggy and the chairs are all broken (you have to lay completely flat or not lean at all). The tennis courts are cracked everywhere. We’ve played on some beat up courts but this one was more of a caution hazard for tripping. The volleyball court was pretty typical, saggy net with rough sand. Basketball courts were well maintained but the hoops were bent and low. The bathrooms were a little rough around the edges. I like how there are plenty of stalls and showers but it’s very dark and no ac. It turns into a sauna when people start showering and it’s 85 degrees out, plus none of the faucets work. Service here wasn’t great even though it said i had bars. I teach virtually and had to cancel a session (first time ever) because of the poor reception. HOWEVER, our space was right next to a wifi box so I actually could teach and stream using their WiFi which has never happened at an RV park before. Other pros include nice shaded spaces with lots of trees, paved sites, nice walking trails, great amenities for kids!

Our niece was running in the state track meet at UK. Since it was short notice, we couldn't get 2 consecutive nights at any spot. We had to move from A1 to A9 for the second night. Totally understand, but the web site wouldn't let us book the second night because it had a 2-night minimum stay. Had to call the campground to book it. Lady on the other end of the phone was "less than thrilled" to help, but got it done. As far as the sites go, I think the weather played a part in that. It's been very rainy (early June 2021) and the sites were muddy all around the pads and entrances. I think the staff should do a better job of keeping vehicles out of the grass. There were several utility trailers, cars/trucks, and camp vehicles (carts, scooters...) parked in the grass at lots of the sites. Bath houses were big and (fairly) clean. There was a big family there and both nights, the boys had the bath house DESTROYED with mud and grass from playing football in the field and using the bath house to rinse off and use the bathroom. If you like wildlife, you may be in for a treat. When we got up one morning, there was a skunk rummaging through one of the campsites.

With that said, we would stay again but would choose the outer ring sites, it seemed much quieter and it backs up to a very nice grassy area and there is nothing behind the fence just an open field for the Kentucky Horse Park next door. The site was tight for the 40' but doable. There is water and electric only, paved but not level (we didn't have problems leveling). While we were there we had a siren go off 3 times and later found out it was a glitch in the Lexington town warning system. This is a great base camp for anything to do with horses, we went to Keeneland race course in the morning and you could watch racehorses do their morning training. We visited Claiborne Farms which was very fun and we also visited Mill Ridge Farms and saw mares with their foals. So if you love horses this is the place to be. We've visited the Horse Park several times, and this RV park is right next door. So I guess we'll be back -- maybe in the spring or early fall.

It turns out that our site had access to water, as well. But no picnic table or fire ring. Also, there are no defined spaces in that area, so people can pull in close to you if they want to. Think of it as a big grassy parking lot. Also, it was a bit of a hike to the bathrooms. We spent the last few days of our stay in a regular, numbered campsite. Our paved pad was pretty level, but some of them weren’t. There was plenty of space between campsites. No sewer hookups, but the bathrooms were clean, including the showers. The pool was really nice and there were lots of open spaces around the campground to give our dog some off-leash exercise. We are new to RV travel, but this place seemed pretty nice to us. I recommend a reservation, especially on weekends.

W/E only at the sites, water at ultra high pressure. 2 dump stations in the park. Sites are long and paved asphalt, however many were slanted/canted making leveling a chore. The showers were not adjustable for temperature, and coupled with the high pressure it felt like taking a shower with a pressure washer. Garbage dumpsters were a bit of a walk from our site. Trees are thick in some places, may interfere with satellite reception. Our site developed a bit of a swamp outside our front door after a light rain. Good location for Lexington, all things equine, & the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and the Brewgrass Trail.

Since only the one loop was open, pretty much everyone had a large view of the playground. There were also bright lights on at the playground that were not necessary after 8 pm, as no one was there. Bathrooms were clean. Easy walk to the Horse Park if that's your thing. There is also a bike path that ends here, and from what I read you can take it the 12 miles to downtown Lexington.Site was $28, but with AAA discount it was 10% off. Water hookups were turned off in January, but we did have electric.I would not stay here in a busier season, as the in-season price was $33/night and there would be zero privacy from the campers around you. Not bad during the time we were there, though.I rated 2 stars for noise - even though we could only hear a bit of traffic, it was the light pollution that really turned me off.

It’s an easy walk from the campground to the Kentucky Horse Park and International Horse Museum, which are well worth visiting, even if you’re not a big horse fan. Two distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail (Town Branch and Woodford Reserve) are an easy drive from the campground. We arrived at the campground on a Thursday and initially were very happy. Our site in the main campground (C153) was close to the Horse Park, and the site’s shade, as well as its electric and water hookups, were much appreciated with temperatures soaring into the 90s. The sites around us were vacant and the evening was quiet. Then came the weekend. We were told that the campground would fill, and it did – with some large, very loud, groups. (One particularly loud group of 10 was camped in the site next to us.) Quiet hours begin at 11:00, but they weren’t observed, and there were no campground hosts to enforce them.We would stay here again, but would avoid weekends in the main campground during the prime camping season.

We loved seeing the horses, Lexington and all the activities of fellow campers. Antenna TV was good, verizon access for my work was good. Access was easy from I75 and park was not light polluted like some. There was no road noise. This was probably the best laid out campgrounds for giving everyone room and a modicum of privacy. Thank you Kentucky Horse Campgrounds!

It's a huge campground with a pool and playgrounds, but our main reason for picking it was location. 30 mins to Woodford Reserve and the beautiful Versailles Rd, although we found out too late that we should have stopped for lunch at Wallace Station. The horse park itself was pretty dead at that time of the year, especially during the week but still a fun place to explore and great museum. We walked over out the back of the CG and picked our way through the empty arenas to the visitor center etc.

We choose the last option and enjoyed 9 days of near solitude with lots of sun for our solar panels and easy access to all the park's amenities for a mere $20 per night. During our stay we walked through the main campground several times and I'm fairly certain I would not be giving this campground 5 stars if we had stayed there instead of the primitive area. The sites are close together with no privacy, and they allow golf carts which means every other camper was zooming around on a cart with kids hanging off the back. So if you don't need hook-ups do yourself a favor and choose the primitive area. The location of the park is fantastic. Next door is the Horse Park where you will find a museum, a working horse farm, an arena and much more. Be sure to purchase your tickets at the campground for a discounted rate. Also in the area are a number of Kentucky Bourbon distilleries, lots of good places to eat (don't miss the nearby Red State BBQ), and the Keenland Race Track.

A winding drive takes you to the center of concentric circle access roads that spread out into campsites that will give you plenty of room for your horse trailer. All the sites are large and pie shaped with lots of room for your critters should you bring them. Water and electric are at each site with a remote dump station.Showers and bathrooms and lounges are in separate buildings. Maintenance is excellent and everything is clean. All sites are reasonably close to the museums, halls and barnes which are on campus. They also have their share of outdoor basketball courts for recreation, this is Kentucky after all!
