The Center sections that are back-ins could be considered pull-throughs if none are occupied at the time of arrival. Once you're in a site depending on the size of your rig & your neighbor to the rear leaves no room - spare tire to spare tire! Overall the Camp has improved so much with new asphalt at many sites and on the streets. Some sites are still gravel and have wood patios, other sites are improved with asphalt & concrete patios. The restroom/shower facility is up to date with tile showers. Lots to do on the grounds with play area, volleyball, miniature golf, fishing at the creek which surrounds 50% of the grounds. The owners/staff are really down home Southern Comfort!! Frankfort is the Capital City of Kentucky so there are many things to do around the area, however, some activity is a bit of a drive. Provisioning is fine with local stores, except there is no Walmart except 15-30miles away (Lawrenceburg or Lexington). No highway noise, very peaceful. Unfortunately we were there in late October so the weather wasn't cooperating - this will be wonderful during summer! Good connections with utilities including the cable TV. Camp WiFi was good as was the cell service on AT&T & Verizon.

Although I did not have an issue personally, it would’ve been nice to have a little bit more space. When you arrive there is no clear defined area to park for registration. An arrow pointing towards a temporary parking spot would be nice. The registration process was quick and easy, but, they really need to get online so there are no clerical errors like when I arrived. I originally reserved for five nights over the phone yet the paperwork only showed me there for two. Each lot appears to be clearly marked on the pavement and also at each hook up. The dump station has a ready to use hose and was very clean. However, they need clear signs to be posted rather than only putting up signs stating no parking.I used the 30 amp connection and I did not have any issues with electricity nor the water. My lot was backed up to the creek which was nice. The Wi-Fi is very spotty and when you do get it, don’t expect anything close to what you might have at home. As for T-Mobile service, one bar is all I’ve gotten, maybe two when I start driving away.

And, all RVs are back to back to each other - that means you have only 1-3 feet between your back end and the one behind you. I mean, really? We were walking the campground one night (the back area) and we realized we were walking on a ton of goose poop. There are plenty of methods to move geese off your property, I wish they would implement one. Finally, when we first arrived, there was no clear signage of where to park etc when checking in, so we had to wait a while for another rig to move out of our way. A couple permanent-looking rigs were shockingly shabby with outrageous junk in their spaces. Three stars for price, noise level and I'm trying to be positive.

However, because it is on the river it is a weekend hot spot for locals. They fish, kayak, tube and even swim in it. You can do campfires in the rings and people do. There are a lot, I mean a lot of Canadian geese in the river and campground and they are very messy birds. There are many semi-permanent residents, but the campground is kept up. Always felt safe here. There is only 2 washers and dryers for the entire campground, which isn't enough. We had to go to a laundry mat in town. Verizon cell service is ok, you can work from it, streaming, not so much. WiFi is iffy. The site we were on was in the middle so there is no separate from the rig behind you besides a painted line and RV's would pull over the line and be inches from your RV. One night the Diesel pusher behind us decided to run his engine at 10pm when we were trying to sleep, not only was it noisy, but it shook the entire trailer and stunk. There was no after hours number to call, so if we did stay here again, we would never stay in one of those sites.

There’s a run down trailer park pretty close to the campground which isn’t very eye appealing when you arrive. The bath house is really nice and they have a small playground. A small mini golf area and a decent size pool. Not a bad campground but I’d say definitely not the greatest either.

We backed up to a small meadow and had total peace and quiet. It got busy on the weekend - probably full, in fact, but still wasn't overly noisy. Great base for our KY genealogy work and bourbon distilleries. The owners take obvious care to keep it really clean. With paved roads and gravel sites, it stays nice and clean. We'd stay here again for sure. A wish list would be that they had escort-to-site, trash pickup and wood delivery. We've been spoiled. Don't let that keep you from enjoying this lovely spot.

We stayed here on a week day after Labor Day and it was very quiet. The sites are close together, so if it were busy I can imagine it might be hectic. But for our stay it was terrific. The roads are paved, sites are gravel or grass. Bathrooms are new and very nice. The owners were very friendly and helpful.

We had a spot on the bank of a river which is always delightful. The restrooms are extraordinary for a private or public campground. There is a pool and playground, if you’re into that. Laundry facilities are here. The only thing that is preventing me from giving Elkhorn five stars is how crowded this place is. Although our particular site was fine, I’m giving four stars because of the overall crowded conditions. If there was a separate category for density I would give it two stars. I would estimate 12-15 feet between the sides of campers, with no separating features than a picnic table. My advice is to try to get a perimeter spot, particularly on the water and on the curve. The Wi-Fi is poor, but that’s typical and the bleeding edge for improvement in almost all campgrounds that offer it.

The campground was also close to downtown Frankfort, which offers all of the usual conveniences. As for access to downtown Lexington, it was about a 20 to 30 minute drive, depending on where we were headed. All in all, as close-to-the-city campgrounds go, it was pretty solid, and given all the other attractions that can be found nearby, it's a really good location. The site quality here was good. The sites had raised cement pads and patio areas, and included a picnic table. All utilities were well placed, and everything worked as expected. We had no trouble getting into our site and appreciated that the large trees that surrounded some of the sites were well maintained and, therefore, did not create an obstacle to parking.Overall, we were very happy with this park. While commercial campgrounds are never our favorites, this one was very well maintained, featured lots of open green spaces, and offered a reasonable distance between the sites. It was also conveniently located near the distilleries, a town where we could find everything we needed, and Lexington itself. We would stay here again.

The building was newly built with modern fixtures. Restrooms and showers are all in same large room separated by stalls with communal sink area in the open. Showers are full tiled floors and walls, with ample hooks and adjacent changing area with portable stool.in a private stall. Missing is a rubber floor mat as you exit the shower that would keep your feet off the wet floor. At the communal sink area, missing are convenience items like paper towels that could be used to help clean up after use – very messy and also need hooks between the mirrors for your hand towels and small shelves for your toiletries stuff. Over all the camp was well groomed and tidy, with all level sites, a sparkling swimming pool, mini golf, kid’s playground etc. Our site was a W&E only but the camp had a nice dump station adjacent to the restroom/shower building. The roadways are paved as are some sites, while others were gravel and grass mixed. There is some grass covered greenspace between sites, not as tight or crowded as a KOA for example, but still narrow. Some sites like ours were in the hot sun with no tress for shade, while others had ample shade. It rained heavy during our stay for about 2 hours and our site had poor drainage leaving muddy pools of standing water although the sun helped to dry it up somewhat. This was an overnight stay camp for us; for others it might a destination because of activities and the fishing in the river that backs the camp. Also City of Frankfort isn’t far away and there are things to do and places to visit if you’re planning a vacation in the area.
