We have lived overseas in Africa for over 40 years serving as missionaries. When back in the USA on furloughs, we are full timer RVers. For more than 15 years we have used Emerald Trails as our American base. There are so many things I love about this campground. Two of the things that I love the most are the people working here, and the flexibility they give us to come and go as needed and repair our trailer when neccesary. We have been to literally hundreds of campgrounds over the years, but we really love this one. It has rustic beauty with its trees and lake. This is not a cement slab type campground, but it is a return to what I consider "old time" camping. They don't have a swimming pool but we don't need one or need to pay for one. Friendly staff, full hookups, lots of trees and grass, and very peaceful. In recent years we have seen the owners making some big improvements. The office and maintenance building have been re-sided, the mowing of grass made the grounds beautiful, removal of old and tired RVs have improved appearances. All the time they make the campers feel welcome and valued. Added bonus is the location. It is tucked away down a country road, but is, I believe the closest campground to downtown Chicago. Easy access to the interstate system via the Danville IL 394 spur. Great location, great people, great rustic and beautiful campsites, fun playground for kids, new dump station, competitive rates, We could not be happier than using Emerald Trails Campground.

Small private campground - for us, it was a good place to stop for the night, since we got a later start (from Chicago) than we'd planned. They were pleasant on the phone when we called to make sure they had space for us, and helpful when we got there, guiding us to our spot. It was our first night, it was a rental riglet, and we were a bit nervous. Sites were pretty close together. The road in is mainly very smooth (as you can see in a few of the pics) but there is one really perilous dip with drop off on both sides - very nerve-racking for us newbies.
