The bathrooms was clean good water pressure and we had no issues with electric.

The location feels quite rural, but only 1/2 mile from a stretch of highway with plenty of food/ga/groceries/etc. The park had several overnighters stay during our visit, and that seemed to add to the friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed talking to the staff/prior owner and the workers answered our questions with good humor. We stayed for free with a certificate that came with our RV purchase and by listening to the Travel Resorts of America sales pitch at an Ohio location. At some point, we may consider that membership more seriously, but our Thousand Trails camping pass serves us just fine now.

  • Much improved really great location

The last review I see here is two years old, thought it time for an update. The place is great it has large shady lots so with shade trees its pleasant even in a Florida summer. Staff is friendly, family level friendly. You have plenty of space between lots, and good privacy. Biggest strength is location. Its a quiet rustic setting, but in 7 minutes you are in Deland, a real cute tourist kind of town with museums, local restaurants and street fairs. Ten minutes to Orange City with all the Big Box stores you want ( Publix, Walmart, Target etc) And you can get to Daytona Beach in about 40 minutes. ( Depending on season).I did hear it was purchased from a KOA about 3 years ago, seems a lot of improvement, and seems the full timers are gone

Campgrounds are increasingly changing their names to “resorts” in hopes of attracting a more upscale and higher paying clientele. Luna Sands is a great example of this trend. The campground appears to have been a KOA at one time (the KOA logo is still on the bottom of the pool), then became the Clark Family Campground, and is now Luna Sands Resort. There is nothing resort-like about this campground. We’ve stayed in RV resorts that are more closely aligned with the resort description...paved roads, paved or hard-packed gravel sites that are level, well-maintained buildings and grounds, evidence of recent and continuous improvements and infrastructure investments. Luna Sands is none of these. It’s an old campground that hasn’t seen much investment in the infrastructure or grounds in quite some time. There are fallen trees from Hurricane Irma that have not been cleaned up. There are derelict trailers and motor homes sitting on sites in the seasonal/permanent tenant areas. The bottom of the pool is dirty, showing footprints where people have previously walked. The roads and sites are mostly sand, not gravel. The concrete patios are old and crumbling. The roads are narrow with trees very close to the shoulders. There is quite a bit of road noise and aircraft noise that is noticeable during the day...things quieted down at night. The campground is very dark at night, requiring a lot of concentration when driving on the roads after dark.$50/night for a FHU site is pricey considering the state of the place...$25-30 would be a more reasonable price. The nearby state parks offer more value for the price if you can get a site (they were full when we booked our reservation). We made the mistake of going into the Welcome Center and were ambushed by a Travel Resorts salesperson pitching memberships in their company ranging from $8,000 to $15,000 (up front). She was using Luna Sands as a great exmple of the quality and amenities offered in their other resorts...she has a very tough sales job if her prospective buyers have been in a true RV resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. The public restrooms/showers were clean and orderly. Most of the picnic tables had a fresh coat of paint on them.As an overnight stay, the campground is fine. However, it is not a place I would spend a week or an extended period at.
