It is very shady. We would have appreciated some sun the cool week we stayed here. Site was FHU 30 amp, mostly level and easy enough to get into. The problem was that sites and roads are dirt and pine needles so it was muddy after any rain. Bring your outdoor mat if you have one. Laundry had 2W and 2D and half were out of order. This park would be great for kids as there are so many nooks and crannies to explore. Small grocery in Trinidad with great selection and high er prices. WiFi worked great for streaming.

Beautifully kept park! It felt like we were a million miles from civilization yet we had all of the modern conveniences. Cell service was excellent, bathrooms were gorgeous and clean, laundry facilities top notch ($2 per load/dry). Would definitely stay here again!

Even getting into the park to the office was a challenge as the steep drive was full of large potholes. It was very muddy, due to recent rains. Gravel gravel could have mitigated that—there was none on the roads or the sites. It's very crowded, with small, closely packed sites. The forest it's jammed into is dense, so it's very dark. There are two bathrooms: one single and one with men's and women's sides, three sinks/toilets/showers each, but one of the women's showers was not working. The bathrooms were clean and the shower good. I'd give "cleaniless" four stars if it weren't so muddy—and I'm sure dusty in the non-rainy season. The park is right next to 101, though the trees muffle some of the noise.

We were lucky enough to get a spot on the Patrick’s Point Rd side of the campground where the noise from the 101 was barely noticeable, if at all.The campground itself is pretty beautiful, set among the redwoods. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cell signal was enough to work off of but was occasionally weak.

Trash cans were overfilling and a mess.

The park has a nice layout, has firepits, playgrounds, pet areas, restrooms as well as laundry. The park offers pull-through sites with full hook ups, back-in sites, partial hook ups as well as dry camping. It was a nice setting with all the redwoods. I appreciated the bark park area where you could let your dog off leash to play. The kids used the wifi so they could watch some shows to wind down for bed.The only slight negative was you got some traffic noise from the freeway. We stayed at site 86 -it was a pull through site, easy to get to. Our friends stayed at site 72 which was quite small and hard to level.Overall I give this place a 5 star. We loved being tucked under the woods and exploring in the majestic green area.

First, the staff at the desk were super helpful and accommodating as I had to move around a bit to be near my family. They were super understanding and did everything they could to help. Wi-Fi was great. Maybe just off season, but I was able to work reliably taking video calls the entire stay. Facilities were good. Nice clean showers. The eastern lot has a larger bath house and the lot on the west side has a building with private bathrooms. The lots vary significantly. The front desk tries to accommodate your needs. Like other reviewers, I found the pull through spots to be the best. Larger with lots of nature. The tent lot is really beautiful. It was off season and empty when we stayed and I’d walk through it in the afternoon to unwind from work. Like a private forest. The location is fantastic. Very short drive from everything you want to do, and easy access to the the charming restaurants in Trinidad. Plus an unusually well stocked grocery store (diaper wipes, fresh crab, beer, produce, fishing poles). We cannot wait to come back.

Close to downtown Trinidad (though most things were closed due to COVID-19). Close to the ocean and lots of walking trails around. Only problem was cable issues. We changed sites once early on, but that didn't really help, though we were able to get one DISH satellite through a gap in the trees. Our site had 30A, full hook-up service. WI-FI was generally ok. They have laundry and showers, though we had our own. Little store for general needs in park, but small grocery store in town. I suggest visiting or ordering from The Larrupin, a restaurant just two minutes down the road. Very good food and service. We ordered curbside pickup since there was no dine-in due to COVID. We would love to go back to Trinidad when all of this is over and would definitely consider staying again at Emerald Forest.

There are nice restrooms and laundry facilities on site. The general store has a good selection of wine, beer, firewood, snacks and camping supplies. As another reviewer mentioned, the higher numbered sites (90s?) are along the back edge of the park and are right next to Hwy 101. They are great sites but you do get some road noise. If this would be a problem for you, talk with the front desk about getting a site on the opposite side of the park. Those back up against the local road and that road is much quieter. The town of Trinidad is a very nice, quiet little town. It has a few simple but great restaurants and a gas station and grocery store. You are a short drive to Redwood National Park and Eureka and Arcata too. The only cons are: 1. They only have 30amp sites, that I could tell. In the winter, this was no issue. With all of the shade, it may not be too much of a problem in the summer either. 2. They don’t have enough lighting around the RV sites and it is difficult to see when driving at night. 3. It rains a lot in the winter and the park tends to have a lot of mud and puddles along the driving paths. None of these cons are deal breakers though and, when we return to this area, we’ll definitely stay here again.

Peak rates for tent camping is $35 which is a bit steep for us. The off season rate was $29.50. Still pricey but average for what we’ve found in northern California. We definitely appreciate how well this campground is kept up. The bathrooms are nice and have hot showers. The sites are close together so if you have the option to drive around and select your own site, I recommend that. Depending on where people place their vehicles and tents you may not have much privacy. Site #33 was pretty private but site #48 would’ve been even more private. Note that if you’re on the outer edge, especially close to Highway 101, you’ll hear a lot of traffic noise. We didn’t hear much from site #33. This campground is children and dog friendly. Catch the sunset over the ocean in Trinidad if you can! No AT&T service but free wifi near the bathhouses.

RV sites are on dirt and not as level as would like with the biggest sites in the back of the park right next to hwy 101 so plenty of traffic noise during the day, although it quiets down at night (hence the 4 star review). Bathrooms/showers in the back were clean. Staff very helpful and friendly. Office accepted a UPS package for us during our stay. Cable TV was good, park Wifi spotty but Verizon was very good. The roads are tight and there are a lot of trees to watch out for but I was able to manage in my 34ft class A. The location was good to hang out on nice beaches. The laundromat nearby (suds and duds) was 1 of the best we've seen in over a year of travels.Cell service was non existent until I hooked up my WeBoost booster and at that point I had good Verizon (14mb d/l) and ATT was 3.9 d/l boosted. No T mobile. They had free wifi which was decent but as with most campgrounds it slowed down during peak times. The grounds were clean but there are a number of what appeared to be permanent residents with run down trailers. The staff was extremely friendly. Every person I came across had a smile and a friendly hello for us and our doggies. This is a dog friendly area where dogs are allowed off leash on the beach and there are nice walking areas in the campground. If I were in the area again, I would stay here again. The only negative was the 30 amps were weak and looked old and in need of an upgrade. I tripped the breakers multiple times which doesn't normally happen to me on 30amp while being careful to manage my usage to 1 appliance at a time. The casino nearby was also a nice activity for the afternoon.

Aside from the better than mediocre store, let me address some pressing highlights. 1. They've got a small but fun arcade. If your children are young enough, you don't even need to give them quarters, they'll just think they're playing and the scrolling credits are all a part of it. 2. There are some really beautiful beaches in nearby Trinidad. 3. The Redwoods National and State Parks are nearby. 4. Massive awesome beautiful redwoods fill this campground. It's seriously pretty darn ultra epic. 5. Redwoods have very meager roots compared to their massive size. When large objects drive over the dirt just near them, it increases the likelihood that these giants will topple. But as long as no one is driving RVs around on them, everything should be fine!
