We used this as a base to visit Trinidad, Patrick's Point SP, and Humboldt Redwoods.Closest town is Orick with a small grocery store so come prepared with supplies on board.Site had W/E connections. No sewer or dump station (we dumped at our next campground).Shower house needs updating - only two toilets in the women's side and one was out of order for the entire week we were there. Shower required a quarter for 3 mins. We did not use. Laundry room was in good operation for a couple of loads. Cell coverage was not adequate for work computer which is the main reason we would not stay here. If you do not need a consistent cell connection this is worth a one time visit.

My site was #507, a FHU, back in site. 30A electric service. This site was in the meadow section and backed up to the trees so I had morning shade. The Forest section is heavily shaded and is a mix of permanent rigs and tourists. The wifi was bad, weak Verizon signal and no OTA channels. The entry road in is asphalt, interior roads are gravel and the sites were a combo of grass and gravel. It was very easy to navigate. The site had a picnic table and fire ring. Hookups were at the back of the site which could be a problem for some rigs. Sites are fairly close and it was easy to hear my neighbors chatting when they were sitting outside of their rig. Site 509 had a bit more space and more shade (temps were very moderate so that may not be a requirement.) Laundry was $3.75 and dryers were $0.25 for 6 minutes. Bathrooms were clean, bare concrete style. As the name suggests, elk do hang out in the campground. One mama elk had an injured leg and was hiding in the bushes behind my rig with her baby. They both came out in the mornings and it was pretty cool to watch them. I enjoyed my stay here and would come back if I was going to visit Redwoods NP again. If you drive up the road to the beach, you can get a signal strong enough to do email.

You won’t have phone service or wifi at all. The wifi doesn’t work well enough to work anywhere no matter how much you walk around to find it. It’ll remind you of being at camp as a kid as it’s very much a sit around a campfire style campground if that’s your thing. Be prepared for an enormous list of rules. It’s pretty pricey and for some sites you made need Anderson levelers or whatever you use to level your RV. Not much to do in the area but see the redwoods.

However, if you think of resort as a place to enjoy natural beauty, peace and quiet, and wildlife in your front yard, this is the place for you. This was our second time here and we'll be back again. 20 minutes north of Trinidad and 10 minutes south of Orick, with easy access just off Hwy 101. We never noticed highway noise but did hear the surf most evenings. We stay in the meadow to be with the elk herd and to enjoy the warm sunshine on clear days. This trip we had more clouds and fog, but still lovely. The beach access the highway is perfect for a day of watching crashing waves, taking a long stroll on the sand,a nd collecting colorful tumbles stones. 30 amp FHU site with level gravel pad and lots of green grass. Fire pit and picnic table. We don't use showers and laundry rooms but they do have them. Small park store with snacks and trinkets. Friendly and helpful staff. Able to receive packages at the office. Our satellite connected easily. Limited park WiFi.

The full service hookups and trash receptacles were very nice. We did 3 loads of laundry......yikes! However the laundry facility was well kept and the machines were average. We had the best spot imo if you want privacy. The lots are pretty close together and 510 is tucked away in the corner. We had some move in behind us but it didn’t matter much. The camp host (Howard) was amazing. The real gem of this place is the location to everything. We were 15 mins from Prairie Creek Redwoods and Lady Bird Johnson Redwood Grove. My only complaints are some long term residents (maybe even the owners) are overly strict about the rules. My son and I were walking along a road when we saw the elk directly in our path, we stopped a good 30 yds from them, took in the sight and decided to turn around. An hour later, a note showed up on my door saying to keep 100ft away from the elk. Lastly, the WiFi is horrible even when you do get signal. I would however stay here again. These were small things.

We did not see any elk at camp in our 2 nights but did hear some and saw plenty of evidence that they had been there. There were large herds visible on the drive in as well. Check out their liability release on the website as well. You will be asked to sign it upon arrival. They opened up the old school house for our kids in the mornings and the store as nice. Firewood must be purchased or brought with you. There is none to be collected. This camp is kid friendly and many were riding bikes.

Great location. We stopped for just one night on a lazy drive south along the coast. We were given a huge pull through with FHU-30 amp. There are two camping areas, the “meadow” which is a large, grassy field and the “forest” which is a more treed, shady area. In mid-February the forest area was closed, too swampy. The meadow was soggy too, but not horrible. The spaces are grass with a picnic table and firepit. Our pull-through was huge and there is adequate space between sites, but nothing at all for privacy. There is a small store and some historic buildings, including an old one room schoolhouse on the property. The resident herd of elk were absent during our stay, although we saw plenty of *ahem* evidence of frequent visits. Yep, elk poop everywhere. ???? We did not use the restrooms or any of the amenities, so cannot speak to those. It’s a nice place and I love the area, but over $40 seemed a bit steep to park in a field even with hookups. We had 1 bar of Verizon 4G which frequently dropped to 2 bars of 3G, unboosted.

The site was mostly level but we did end up using a few blocks on one side. There was a large picnic table and a fire ring which was nice. We were backed up to a treeline so there was a lot of shade! We were also farthest from the road so road noise was minimal.Dog friendliness 3/5 stars: Plenty of grass and lots of walking area for your dog. No fenced dog area which was a bummer. Also, there's elk poop EVERYWHERE, so if your pooch is inclined to want to nibble it all (like ours was) it can be a pain in the butt to walk your dog. I was fishing elk nuggets out of her mouth often. However, there's ample room at the sites with grass so you can let your dog relax outside without bothering anyone. Of course we were there in November so we didn't have any immediate neighbors, but the sites are fairly roomy.Bathhouse and showers 3/5 stars: Clean, roomy, hot, and with good pressure. Nothing fancy but good enough for using the restroom or getting a shower. I showered daily there.Overall campground 4/5 stars: This is a nice, peaceful place. During prime season it might be really busy, but when we were there it was maybe only 1/4 full and was quite relaxing. It was cool seeing the elk come through (they did twice in our week long stay). This place would almost be a 5-star for me, but all the elk poop that my dog kept trying to eat was a big annoyance. If she just wouldn't eat it things would have been much nicer for us and her. We couldn't even leave her on her tie-out much because she wanted to FEAST! lolNote that there's not much near this campground. Trinidad is about 10-15 minutes down the 101 and is quite small. There's a little grocery store and a couple local places to eat and I think one gas station. So make sure you stock up if you will be staying here long.We went to the Lady Bird Grove to see the Redwoods and that was excellent!

We Loved it and didn't experience any rude or unwelcoming folks working there. It is different from many standard RV parks in that you have the choice to park out in an open meadow, fairly lined up in typical RV condo fashion, or you can stay in more spacious sites scattered throughout a large dense shady forest......very much like a state park or National Forest campground. This RV park/campground is 60 years old.....very well established and fairly big. The meadow sites and many of the forested sites have hook ups. The central restroom/shower building is decently clean but could use some spiffing up. After all these buildings are situated in a damp salt-air climate, so rust on fixtures and paint fading is to be expected. But it could use some freshening up at this time. The park itself is very pleasant, clean, and well-kept. It has a lovely natural and safe feel to it. We all definitely plan to be back in the near future. Next time I'll bring my husband in our travel trailer.

It is right off of the highway, but the road noise was not a problem. The location was close to many CA state parks and Redwood National and State Park. We stayed July 4th weekend and it was sold out. Park was quiet at night even though full. Be wary of elk poop all over the place. Not a big problem, but...The office/store has a couple of things for sale, but get your supplies before arriving, as the closest grocery store is in Trinidad, about 10 miles away. Trinidad is a nice coastal town with some good sightseeing and some decent places to eat. While we only had two bars of ATT coverage, speeds were 20 mb/sec down and 5 mb/sec up. There was no OTA TV channels available, and if you have a satellite dish, be sure to camp in the "meadow" vice "forest", as the forest sites are truly in a forest and you won't get a signal. Bathrooms and showers were slightly below average, but acceptable. Laundry was $3.25/wash and $0.25/6 min for dry. Washers and dryers were new-ish. There is a change machine and laundry supplies vending machine. Be sure to ask for the key to bathroom/shower/laundry.Overall, you stay here because you either like elk (which it was really cool to see them so close), or you want proximity and access to all the nearby parks.

They typically come out in the morning, but one afternoon we had a herd of 43 wandering between the RVs.The campground is a good place from which to explore the area. The word "Resort" is a little misleading. But still, it was a pleasant stay. The roads are paved. Check in was efficient. There are some items in the camp store, but nothing we needed. They did have DVDs you could borrow for free.We felt the best campsites were in the meadow. They are pull-through with gravel pads, grass, and a picnic table. They are up by the road, but the road noise was not bothersome. The WiFi, although a strong 802.11g signal, was unusable. The speed was so slow, we pulled out the Verizon MiFi. Verizon varied on my phone between no bars to to 1X. MiFi was a consistent 1X until I put it on the booster. Then I was able to get 2 bars of 4G at 6 Mbps.OTA TV was non-existent. If you need your nightly TV fix, come with your own DVDs, a satellite dish, or stream on your own device. There are lots of campgrounds in the area. If we were through here again, we would have to debate staying here again or trying one right on the water. It is definitely the elk that make this place special.

  • Loved the location: close to the ocean, Redwood forests, and a herd of elk.

There are also many sites in the meadow, as well as tent camping back in the forest. We were warmly welcomed and were provided with helpful information on hiking in the nearby parks. It was easy to maneuver our rig and car, plus there is a large parking area that was perfect for hooking up the car. There is a small store with a few amenities and some movies for rent. There was a herd of elk that were always around. The resort is a short drive from all sorts of hiking trails, the beach, and some amazing big trees. In Orick, the country store, as you drive into town, makes sandwiches that are perfect for taking on a hike.Cell reception and wifi were not very good from our site. I had no service on my Nexus with AT&T, but the iPhone had 2 bars LTE.
