Not all sites have a sewer line, which is weird and you have a couple in a row with them, then one without. Glad I did not have to pitch a tent, those sites were all not level. They have a weird reservation quirk, I have never seen before, $20 to reserve the site you chose or they may relocate your with no choice. Just charge a few bucks more and get rid of this quirky system.

  • This overnight could only be topped in the fall when the Aspen turn.

We were scheduled to overnight at the Table Mountain RV Park in Rye, CO. However, once we arrived at the Rye location, it was not an inviting park and we cancelled the reservation (I’ve written a separate review). We were fortunate to book at the last minute a back in site with full hook ups at Aspen Acres. The sites were well spaced, clean and mostly level. Our “backyard” was a huge boulder surrounded by Aspen. The WiFi works well but only in the general area of the office. There is a large community room adjacent to the office. While planning my July travels, I had overlooked Aspen Acres because of its location; yet it is only a 30 minute SCENIC drive from Colorado City.

  • Always a pleasure

The campground was closed until a fantastic couple purchased and reopened the campground in 2020. Doug and Jennifer are doing everything possible to make the grounds something folks can be proud of to make the trip up there. As with last year I have stayed in one of the cabins to have some peace and quiet. Dealing with PTSD I can say I have not found a better place to unwind what I've had to deal with. Everyone who works on site are very friendly and responsive if one has any type of issue with their site, be it tent camping, RV camping or as I have had the privilege in stay in one of the cabins. To let those who would expect perfect cell service and WiFi connections this in not the place, for one has to remember that you are in a National Forrest which limits what one can have at 9,200 feet above sea level. There are specific rules in San Isabel National Forrest that does not allow one to have city type WiFi and cell service. Personally I would rate Aspen Acres one of the better places to stay especially for the amenities as well as for the peace and quiet. I have been in other camp grounds that is not close to any type of town or city and I find this is great place to be.

We met friends from Texas there and wanted our sites together, staff wasn’t able to accommodate because sites were all reserved except for two when we reserved online. Mother Nature had really messed up their efforts to get up and running full speed for Memorial Day Weekend. Our site (#10) was level and easy to back into. Very scenic area! I will definitely be returning!

  • Well maintained, quiet, staffed

There are sites for every type of camper: tent, trailer, RV, glamping and cabins. This is a somewhat small but well maintained private campground with lots of simple amenities. All is the wooded back-in sites have full hook-ups (30A) and there are pull-thru sites (Ithink they are still 30A). The center wooded area is perfect for tents. A small dog park gave our girls the chance to run free for a little. There is a shower house with bathrooms that are well maintained. Trash is kept tidy and didn’t smell even on the 97 degree day. Very easy to access but no road noise (at least not at our site). We have a 26’ trailer and stayed in site 18. It was near the end of the row and relatively quiet. We only wish we had a longer power cable. (Our next purchase!) Our port is at the back and the outlet was way up front. To reach, we had to set up near the front of the site which limited our parking. Just pointing that out for others who might be ill prepared too.We were too far away to take advantage of WiFi which is fine, we just wandered up near the office to check our texts once daily. It might be more accessible if you are located closer to the office. No cell service for Verizon. Personally, I was happy to be unplugged for a couple of days!Although we had a fire ban in effect, we were able to rent a propane fire pit from the office. Be super cautious and check fire restrictions for Custer County. (http://oem.custercountygov.com/firecon.htm)Aspen Acres has a lot more staff than I expected and they patrolled frequently. Very helpful and friendly.5 minutes from Bishops Castle and 10 minutes from Lake Isabel ($7 day use fee). Easy drive up from I-25 but fairly steep in spots if that is problematic. We will stay again!
