The campground is typical layout for RV parks - sites are very close together with utility's-sides facing each other and shared grass/picnic table locations. The interior roads are all gravel and so there is a good amount of dust kicked up. The owners/managers have very nice flowers planted all around and the office has a nice little store area that is connected to the laundry and bathrooms. Everything was very neat and well cared for. The sites in the front are sunny, all sites back of the office are shady. We were met immediately as we pulled in and escorted to our site. We had a nice view of a neighbor's field next door, with their two horses grazing. Noticed a nice playground area for kids and a swimming pool. Huge fenced in area for dog run - some grass, mostly dirt as well as a smaller area.Enjoyed a 2 hour horseback ride up a steep mountain trail using Over The Hill Outfitters.Crepes stand in historic section was delicious.Dinner at Chimaya Stone Fired Kitchen - very good.San Rita Park - Parked there and then walked the paved river trail. Saw some skilled kayakers and "surfers" riding the rapids. Pretty cool!Go to the Historic neighborhood (Main Ave) for nice window shopping and eating - nicer then the busy Camino Del Rio/Hwy 550.
Very Good!

The water line was completely frozen because it had lost power but they got everything working for us fairly quickly. Sites were gravel/dirt and some grass but it had just snowed so everything was under snow for the majority of our stay. Our site was pretty level for the most part. We didn't use the restrooms but the laundry room was clean and everything worked well. I want to say there were at least 8 washers/8 dryers. $2 wash/$2 dry. This park was very convenient to Durango which was exactly what we wanted. I think it was a bit overpriced for what it is but we would stay here again.

We fell in love with this campground, Durango, and the people. The campground has a fenced in 2-3 acre dog park, that our dog fell in love with. The grounds were well kept, staff was beyond friendly, laundry room was clean, and they had a restaurant that served pizza, etc (it closed for the Winter while we was there). They had a seasonal pool, large gas fire pit, games, a trail right behind the campground that went up on a mountain overlook. We wanted to stay longer, but unfortunately they were booked. We will definitely be back to this campground. We stayed a week so they offer a weekly rate.

The sites are a little crowded, at least where we were at in site 64. This made it difficult to set up the RV at first even though it was a pull through site. Some of this might have been due to having a long bed dually. The park has some great amenities like laundry, a camp store, pizza place, pond, etc. overall it’s a great place and I would definitely stay here again!

Love all the trees, waterfall trout pond, volleyball, tetherball, cute convenience store & humongous 2 acre dog park and even dog bathing station! The pull-thru spots are so great and especially spacious for big rigs! You must try the pizza by George & Theresa too! The location is perfect too! You’re just far enough from town so there’s no hustle and bustle, but not too far to drive in and experience all the awesomeness Durango has to offer! It’s only about 5-10 minute drive. We will def be back!! Thank you for a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! The town of Durango is only about a 5-10 min drive and the Silverton train station is there, as well as soo many little shops, restaurants and breweries! There was even a little county fair while we were there for Memorial Day. Definitely try the Breckenridge Beer Garden at the Double Tree. You can sit outside, right on the river and watch rafters go by while you eat.

Not because it's fancy (it isn't), not because of any one amenity, but because of the overall feeling that we had while staying here. Family friendly yet somehow peaceful at the same time. The cafe with plenty of hot breakfast options as well as pizzas at dinnertime. The 2 acre dog park with separate small dog area. The huge maple and cottonwood trees. The friendly staff. The heated pool. The views of the surrounding red cliffs. All wonderful. The play equipment is somewhat limited, just a swing set and a tetherball pole. But there was plenty of space for our son to run and play. The dog park is a wide open field, great for letting the fur babies run or playing fetch. Off to the side there's a small creek/drainage area with some native shrubs which doesn't look like much but our son and dogs loved exploring this area. Check-in was friendly and efficient, with a greeter walking out to your rig, handing you the campground information packet, explaining a few key things, and then passing you on to the guy in the golf cart who escorts you to your site. If you check in late, there's a small office right at the entry point with a cork board outside where an envelope with your last name on it will be waiting for you. The sites are kind of a mixed bag, but something for everyone I suppose. We had a "double wide" spot close to the office, number 62. These sites have a parking space next to the regular RV space so you have good separation from your neighbors. But other sites were sometimes cramped. There are two general areas to this park: around and west of the office is where the big trees are and the whole area is in full shade more or less. Then there's another area west of the dog park that has just a few trees, although most sites seemed to have some sort of shade. These sites are interesting in that one site pulls in from the left, the other from the right, so that your drivers sides are next to each other. There's not a lot of space between rigs on this side, but each has a decent patio space on the passenger/door sides. Now the internet. Verizon had one tower with only one band available, and it was completely saturated to the point of unavailability in the evenings. All devices showed 3 bars, but I'm rating it as one bar below because the capacity is insufficient for the load. On speed tests, our iPad got 1.2 Mbps down and 0.5 up, one of our phones got 0.6 Mbps down and 0.1 up, and the other phone had essentially no connection. The campground WiFi was not much better, and we were right next to the office. T-mobile had 1.5 Mbps down on Band 71, which is the newer 600MHz band that not all devices support. If you want to work remotely from this park, better be done with your work before 4pm!Other downsides include unlevel sites in the tree section (we could barely get level in our site). Also the only dumpsters are way out by the entrance to the park, so depending on where your site is, it's a bit of a walk to take out the trash. Annoying when you have dogs and need to dispose of their waste several times per day.
Excellent service. Nice campground. Tight spacing.

They were very helpful, and accommodated us and put us in a spot where we could stay in the same spot all 3 days despite being quite crowded. Judy was great. We arrived after hours, and it appeared our electric did not work. After the office opened in the morning, I went and told them that my surge protector was not allowing power to the RV. They came rapidly and checked it and said it was reading normally, but noticed a loose wire so put in a new 30 amp plug. To make a long story short, it turned out the problem was with my surge protector. It had apparently given its life protecting my van in some prior Campground without me knowing it.Our site was pretty tight. It could’ve led to a less than optimal experience, except our neighbors were exceptional and we ended up having a great time. I would recommend getting one of the pull through sites. The ones in the back of the park are shaded and very nice. The ones in the front of the park towards the main road are very big but some are completely exposed to the sun. Some of the largest RVs were parked out thereAll in all I would give Alpen Rose high marks. The customer service was great, The campground, while tight, is in a great location for visiting Durango.

Our favorite part of the park was the gigantic dog area. This place was beautiful, situated between red rock Aminas valley with the gorgeous, snow- capped mountains in the distance. Part of the park is in the tree covered area and pet is in the sunny area. We loved the sunny area because it was close to the volleyball net and tetherball area where I could watch my son play and the weather was divine! Pretty dandelions everywhere! The only negative was Verizon signal was minimal and despite being close to the office, our WiFi signal was non existent. Hard to work from here.

Durango is amazing too, surprisingly great restaurants and retail for a town of its size. The drawbacks: buddy camp sites where RVs face each other, awning to awning. Great if you’re traveling in a caravan; not so great if you value privacy. Owners prefer that campers arrive by 4 PM and checkout time is 11 AM - both were a bit restrictive for us weekend warriors traveling from out of state. We would return, as Alpen Rose seems preferable to other campgrounds near Durango. However we would not book another buddy site again.

That's fine and all, but even when we stayed in our Airstream travel trailer it was apparent that they either didn't like the vintage look, my 30-something swagger or perhaps the idea that we had kids. The front desk staff was shorter than a butcher's thumb with me both times, yet I saw them chatting up hilarities with older folks hanging around the office. As RV parks go, it's nice enough, probably cleaner and better kept than average, but otherwise it's tight spaces along a highway. Helluva highway, though.

We were in need of some supplies and they were happy to accommodate our shipments. We booked a premium spot and it was OK. Even though it was labeled as 59 feet in length, my truck wouldn't fit on the site and I had to park it across the way. Obviously, that site wasn't 59 feet but it was an OK site otherwise. There are quite a few park workers who full-time it there and their sites aren't the most tidy. If you need a place to stay in the Durango area, this isn't a bad choice. I wouldn't say it's a great choice, either.

At night there seemed to be a big bonfire, though we didn't join in. It's quiet here, with a train occasionally. We're on a 2 week trip around southern Utah & Colorado and northern Arizona & New Mexico. This is the most we've paid for a site. We're only here for the one night, so won't use the amenities. Free Coffee and Popcorn all day.All the facilities were clean, there was snow flurries on a few days, still early in the season, and you an see they are gearing up, cleaning everything, and doing landscaping. The on site Pizza Guy had not arrived yet, but was to be there soon. There are 2 basic areas, in the trees or in the open, both are very nice, our site was 95% level, only a minor lift needed. Site has a pool, and large tent, we assumed for events etc. but was not open yet.One of the nice things (if your into steam trains) is you can hear and walk to the Durango - Silverton train as it passes by the park, we took the official train ride, only a few miles to downtown, and it was a very memorable trip. Highly Recommended. There is a beautiful Waterfall and Hot Springs not far from the park within walking distance, and a new Grocery next to the new Hardware store only a few miles away towards Silverton.Durango has everything you'd need, lots to see and do like, rafting trips, hiking, mountain biking, shopping, and dining. We will be back for sure.

There are about 100 sites of which the majority are pull-thru sites. The entrance off of Highway 550 North is asphalt but the drive isles and sites are gravel. Each site has a grass area with picnic table. Most of the sites are oriented so that the passenger side of the RVs face each other. The sites to the north, south, and west of the office are shaded by large trees. The majority of the these sites have 30 amp connections. The 47 sites east of the office all have 50 amp connections are designed for larger sized RVs. Only a few of the sites east of the office have any shade. Many of those 47 sites have views of the cliffs on east and west sides of the valley. The office and market building is located in the center of the park. The restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities are located just west of the office building. As such, it can be a bit of hike to the get to those facilities if your site is located near the perimeter of the site. There is also dog washing area, two acre fenced grass are to allow pets to play, above ground pool, small playground area, and group pavilion area within the park. The park does allow washing RVs and vehicles onsite but requires advance notification and charges an additional fee.We stayed at site #86 during our four night stay which was one of the 47 sites east of the office building. The spacing between our site and site #87 which faced us was sufficient. Connections included 50 amp service (no 30 amp service), a single hose bid, cable TV, and sewer. The angle at which the sewer connection came out of the ground didn't make it useable without there being standing water in the sewer hose after dumping so we didn't use it. Our site had no shade so our motor home heated up during the day but was able to quickly cool down once the sun set. The Wi-Fi signal and speed were sufficient to allow for streaming of videosThe length of our pull-thru site was probably 45 feet and relatively flat. The large loose gravel used by the RV park necessitated the use of jack pads/leveling blocks in order to avoid shifting once the leveling jacks were deployed. We were able to fit our 39 foot motor home but because of the site length and angle, we were not able to park our tow vehicle at our site without partially blocking the drive isle so we parked it about 100 feet away in a group parking area. During our Thursday to Sunday stay in mid-July, the campground was about 95% full. In general, the days and nights were quiet. Quiet hours were from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. In the early morning hours, it is possible to hear some road traffic noise from Highway 550 North but it isn't bothersome. Trains from the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad pass to the east of the park a few times in the morning and again in the evening. The trains usually blow their steam horns when they are nearby. We would stay at this RV park again.
