The owners are on site and have clearly worked hard to make this a fist class park. Location is perfect for visiting Bayfield and the Apostle Islands National Seashore and Madeline Island. Campsites are mostly gravel but are well spaced, have mature landscaping, and offer water and electric hook up. The facilities are among the cleanest we have ever seen. Check in / general store is very cute and even has ice cream! There is a large play area and green space in the middle of the main loop. Highly recommended park and we will definitely return! FYI - the park owners are in the process of expanding, and are adding more RV sites and amenities. We camped at Apostle Islands Area Campground in a Travel Trailer.

They allowed us to put their tent next to our RV site, which was really appreciated. They have a nice, small kids playground and grassy area, which we used daily. The campground was very quiet. Camp wifi was not usable at our site. Mobile service was adequate, but only for basic things. I used a signal booster to do some work. We would stay again. Nothing special, but it served us well for the week. I'm curious to see what the owners do with the property- they mentioned upgrades were in the works!

Our third excursion in our new RV led us to the Apostle Islands Area Campground, near Bayfield, Wisconsin. This was out second time being in a dedicated, private RV campground and the experience was a polar-opposite of our first. The overall layout of the grounds and traffic pattern make it relatively easy for pulling into the camp sites. Over the three days we stayed at the campground, we saw every level of RV pull in for a stay -- from small teardrop trailers, mid-size travel trailers, extremely large Fifth-Wheels, Class C, and Class A motorhomes. The campgrounds accommodated all with full hookup! The campground also rents campers, covered wagon cabins, and a separate tent area. Overall, the campgrounds were very, very clean -- the toilet and laundry facilities were clean, too. Check-in was somewhat awkward only because the front-desk computer lost Internet connectivity, so my wife had to show her email reservation/confirmation from her iPhone; Internet connectivity through the campground wi-fi was marginal, at best. However, I did not let that diminish the overall review because all of the other amenities, the climate of the campgrounds, the helpfulness of the staff, the campground store, all of those other factors matter more than Internet connectivity for us. For example, unlike our first experience in a private RV campground where it was like a loud party at every site, the clientele at Apostle Islands Area Campground were very low-key and adhered to the campground's quiet-time policy (10pm-7am). By 9pm the campground was quiet. Our RV site provided full hookup and was pretty level with minimal adjustments needed level the camper. The overall size of the site was reasonable with a fire ring and picnic table and a large Juniper tree to block the view of the camp sites across the road. I think one of the more enjoyable aspects of the Apostle Island Area Campground was our site backed up to the woods, so even though we were parked in a RV spot near other campers, we had ample trees and roughage to feel as if we were in a secluded State Park camping area. The light pollution was not an issue, and my daughter was able to capture some high-quality photos of the night sky from the campground area. Overall, the property owners and campground manager appear to go to great lengths to ensure the campground is clean, safe, and enjoyable for all its clientele. We will definitely come here again!

Full hookups were great, staff in the office great as well. Site not really level, but not too far. Obviously a bunch of work been done here of late, like 50A poles. A little too far out of town really, but it was fine. Stayed for a whole week.

The office/store has been remodeled and is very cute. The grounds and campsites are clean and well-maintained. The upgraded wifi was much appreciated. Most importantly, the new owners are super friendly, accommodating and energetic. Our weekend was perfect – a concert at the Big Top Chautauqua, a ferry ride to Madeline Island, and a quiet evening around the campfire. I was going to write a great review before we returned home and received a call from the owner stating that we forgot our surge protector hanging on the electrical post. He is packing it up and mailing it to us. That is above and beyond great customer service. Thank you!

Refreshing to see that. We stayed on a site high on a hill where we enjoyed 4th of July fireworks at our campfire, and a view of the lake. The campground has nice open spaces, and large trees for shade, and a nice playground for kids. It’s close to town for all the shops and boat tours, but very quiet and peaceful. We had a good Verizon signal. We stayed in a 36’ motorhome and had plenty of room around us.

The Apostle Islands are a group of 20+ islands in Lake Superior managed by the National Park Services as a National Lakeshore. Boat tours of the Apostle Islands are available from a dock in downtown Bayfield. The campground is just outside the downtown area on a hillside above Hwy 13 off of County Road J. No water view from the campground through the trees. You go up a driveway and enter the campground next to the office. Payment here is cash or check only, no credit cards. We paid $40 night plus tax for full hookups. Sites are assigned on arrival. We didn't have a reservation. When I called a few days earlier we were told to just show up.The sites are down a steep and curvy gravel drive just after the office but we had no trouble navigating it. Sites are laid out on a hillside loop with some just a bit steep on entry. Most sites look to be level side to side. There's a more open loop with a grassy play field and a side loop tucked in the trees. Some of the sites in the trees might be problematic for longer & taller rigs. As the main loop curves toward the exit there's an RV dump set right alongside the gravel road. It might be interesting if a rig was dumping as you pull out as it's on a corner and the road's not overly wide. Our site had a sewer connection, 30 amp power and shared a water faucet with the site next door. It was a very long run to the faucet and we needed 50 feet of hose to get there. There's a warning sign at the office that some sites have long runs to the power pedestal as well. There are bathrooms and showers. Showers aren't free, they take quarters. There's no wifi but the Verizon signal is 3 bars LTE and fairly fast. We set up our satellite and found 2 of 3 Dish satellites. Very few sites here will be able to pick up any satellites due to the trees. We also found 2 channels OTA including the Fox affiliate from Duluth for local news and weather.

It's an old fashioned sort of campground. No reservations, no credit cards. The owner/operators like their signage. You won't forget there's a 5-MPH speed limit here, thanks to the many signs with snarky comments on them, like "This is not a suggestion". One of the STOP signs says "Do you run all stop signs or just this one?" Signs inside and outside the office warn of every offense you might commit, including making complaints about the weather. It all gives off the impression that the owners are either thin-skinned or control freaks.Sites 54-56 have partial lake views thanks to an upper-tier location. The rest are closely spaced in the trees, mostly or fully shaded. Grass and dirt. Showers/baths require quarters, and the owners justify this by saying you get a clean facility for the extra money. I guess if you were just paying for a campsite you'd deserve a dirty facility.
