It’s a beautiful spot in every way! We arrived later in October so Al was fixin’ to close down for the winter but we were thrilled to stay even for one night. I suspect it’s a difficult place to get into in the summer! Wi-fi was just okay but we have a Verizon jet pack that allowed to do anything we needed.

  • Quiet and rustic.

From the moment he met us at the site as we arrived and helped us to back in and get settled, we knew we were in a special place. The setting is beautiful, along the Conejos River. Dark sky country, you can see the Milky Way at night. Some great motorcycle riding roads in the area. It's a ways out from the town of Antonito, and we work full time, so cellular connectivity was a little bit of an issue. We got by, but barely. If you don't have to be connected for work, or have enough tech to boost the signal and pick a clear campsite, you could be OK. That did not detract from the experience - we'd stay here again.

The park is adjacent to a river, which was more of a creek due to lack of snow/rain the preceding seasons, and the sites are nicely spaced out around a loop with some trees between. The tent sites where I stayed, and sites 21 - 24, are on the exit road from the main loop, and while the first tent site was fine I wouldn't recommend the second one or those 4 full hookup sites as they are the most tightly packed in the park.Unfortunately the shower wasn't operational, which seems to be the new norm, but the single washer and dryer were available with only a donation requested. The only downside is the park owner has several free roaming dogs, all very friendly, but a dog's gonna doo what a dog's gonna doo. I can't say for sure, but this may encourage other park guests to not clean up after their dogs either. The park sits on County Road D.5 which is partially paved and partially washboard packed dirt. If you come from the south, as I did, ignore your navigation to turn right on the first access point to the road and wait for the next right so you can stayed on paved surfaces.

Al is a super host and he has created a laid back place where you can fly fish if you want (we did not) or do nothing if you'd like (we did a whole lot of nothing). Our spot was set off by itself which was extra nice. But if you have a group Al can set you up in a cluster of spots for a neat little community too. Just tell him what you're looking for and he will do his best to accommodate you. The amenities here are fairly spartan, but that's understandable given the setting. this is a place to get away. The Conejos River is a short walk from your campsite, yet far enough away we didn't notice any bug problem in late July. Morning temps were low 50's and then we had mid 70's in the afternoon. It's small, so call early to reserve a spot. Antonito has a nice grocery and Alamosa is less than an hour away if you need to hit up a Walmart or other major retailer.

All the sites were spacious with a lot of Aspen and maybe cottonwood trees. There’s a beautiful river running along the campground. We arrived on a rainy day but there was plenty of gravel so no trouble with ruts or mud. It was very quiet and peaceful and everyone we encountered was very friendly. There’s a shower house and a washer dryer set up. Full hook ups and good wifi. We would stay there again.

From grasses to willows to wild roses, Al Abeyta and his family are preserving their gorgeous acreage along a fly fisherman's river (see Al about guided fishing tours/lessons). The campground is not ginormous so call ahead and make reservations. The sites are level with full hook-ups and are well-situated so that your are not "lined-up" parking lot style and can be tucked away. Most campgrounds along the Conejos are along CO Hwy 17 but Canon Bonito is off the highway and down a county road. We will definitely be back to this treasure! At the time of our visit, new fiber optic cable was being run throughout the county and wifi is expected to be improved in June.

You have to cross a small bridge to get to the campground, labeled 32 ton limit. We'd definitely return!

This just isn't that kind of place.DO come here if what you want is a quiet, serene, peaceful spot featuring a clear mountain stream in walking distance, and fresh mountain air to ease away city stress. This is a small park where your neighbor is 50-60 feet away, and the full hook-ups (20/30/50) are pristine. No concrete pads, but several level spots that were just perfect for our class A 36' Diesel. The water is clean and delicious well water. There is no traffic to speak of at all. Bring your hummingbird feeder, and binoculars. Lots of birds to watch and listen to.The manager, Al, is one of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. He doesn't even require a credit card to hold your spot, your word is your hold. Such a refreshing approach. We brought our two dogs, and they did beautifully (although they wanted to get off-leash to chase the chipmunks!)Alamosa is only about a half hour drive, and there is a Walmart Supercenter to stock up at if needed. Antonito is only 5 or 6 miles away and it has a tiny grocery store and a "Dollar" type store so that you can grab quick supplies. A little gas station and car wash are there as well. Our wi-if worked pretty well, occasional sportiness but most of the time okay. We were in site#4 which also happened to be where the park's wi-if booster was located. All in all, this will be a park that will be hard to beat for our needs. We absolutely loved our stay here.
