We were here over a busy weekend. The staff was working hard to manage the crowds and were consistently helpful and pleasant. It appears this management has taken over relatively recently and is working on upgrades and repairs. First, if you have a trailer or anything bigger than a van pay close attention to the site you are getting and communicate clearly what size site you need. Many of the sites are small and even putting two cars and tents on them will be crowded. Other sites are large enough that this is not a problem, so talk it over when making a reservation. Second, summer weekends will have many large groups occupying multiple sites. If you want privacy and serenity, this is not your place. On the other hand, there were loads of kids and folks out for a good time over the weekend. Everyone was respectful and followed the rules. Third, Washington is a destination, you come here to soak or fish in the river, maybe ride an ATV or check out the old mining town, complete with locals right out of Central Casting for a Gold Rush movie. Not much else there, but that is enough for a day or two.Fourth, some of the campground amenities are older but functional. The vibe is rustic and old school. While I'd love to have had water efficient toilets and on site wifi, it all worked. Hopefully the managers will be able to reinvest in more updates as the season goes on. Fifth, the swimming hole in the campground is the best amenity and everyone goes there. It does not have a beach and shore space is at a premium. The water is amazing and it felt great on some very hot days. Be sure to check out the other swimming hole at the bridge in town, it is larger, has some beach space and we liked it better.
