  • Great, out-of-the ordinary park that is very convenient for visiting Ventura, or as a destination itself.

In theory you've got to have the "right" kind of RV. But, even if you don't think you do have the right kind give 'em a call anyway; when we first got there there was a new-model trailer that didn't seem to fit their criteria.Getting there: when you approach on Ash St. you will be confronted by a train crossing that appears quite steep and it isn't obvious that you're in the right place (the turn after the tracks to get to Waypoint isn't really visible when peering at the crossing from across the street). Have no fear: cross the tracks (we didn't drag our unlifted, 25 foot Airstream) and you'll turn left immediately. They have two community firepits which are great if you're into people (free s'mores kits at the desk). The WiFi worked perfectly and was more than adequate for remote working. The vintage trailers that they've got set up as hotel rooms are great to look at. They've got bicycles to check out. The Ventura Pier (and beach) is within easy walking distance. There are restaurants within walking distance and grocery stores within one or two miles (which may or may not be walking distance to you). The bad (ish): train tracks run right next to the park. We didn't find it bothersome (and were never awakened) but the trains do blow their horns and the ground shakes as they rumble past. You may feel like you're in a bit of a hole because some new condominiums have been built immediately west (and the buildings mostly block any view of the sea - although we could see a sliver of the ocean and pier from site 14). The cost increases from $75 to $95 per night on weekends.

Firepits have blankets on the chairs and the vibe and scene when lit up at night is really fun. Clean, warm showers and restrooms. Ice is furnished if needed. We came in our Airstream and our friends met us and rented a vintage camper for the weekend. The remodeled units are well done and really comfortable with nice quality bath amenities.Don't get confused upon arrival. The road is parallel between the railroad tracks and some apartments. It's not labeled properly and is a bit hidden by some warehouses.

Although I slept very well with earplugs. Can't hear the freeway, apartment buildings must block the sound. Moderate AT&T Service.

A quick one block walkTo the pier/beach and a couple blocks to charming downtown Ventura. All the restaurants, shops, attractions you are looking for are so close. They have complimentary bikes too if you want to cycle. The staff is helpful, courteous, charming and very friendly. The little lobby had organic coffee and treats in the morning and mulled cider in the evening while we where there. They even had s’mores for the beautiful fire pits. Be aware that there are restrictions to the types/Age of trailer you can bring. It is for airstreams and vintage trailers only. (Check the site for more details) Our vintage Canned Ham was right at home here. It was kind of nice to be on the right side of rig age restrictions for a change!! Things to note, This is not nature camping. You are in the city center of Ventura. The sites are very thoughtfully landscaped to provide privacy but you will have Neighbors. Also there is currently a construction project going on nearby so you have some noise from that or the train that seems to be adjacent to every Southern California beach campground. ! We stayed at waypoint on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We are already planning a return visit for a longer stay.

Just a 5 minute walk to Ventura Pier/beach. Really nice staff and tons of amenities... coffee, tea, goodies and fresh-squeezed OJ each morning, hot chocolate and makings for s’mores at fire pit each night! It is right next to train tracks—pretty busy during the day but quiet at night. All the sites are gravel and large. They had great WiFi, too.
