We wanted to spend a day in the town of Julian and Stagecoach Trails is perfectly situated. We stayed two nights but didn’t get a chance to check out many of the amenities. The park is large, with both pull-though and back in spaces. Most sites have a picnic table and firepit. There’s a dedicated area for the horse crowd with corrals and a horsewash rack. Other amenities include restrooms/showers, a pool, playground, volleyball and horseshoe pits. We did enjoy the large, fenced dog run. The Shelter Valley Event Center is also located in the park. The office is in a very well-stocked camp store that serves pizza, hotdogs, and ice cream. The sites are dirt/gravel and most of the pull-throughs are staggered so you’re facing your neighbor, but off set a bit. Luckily the park wasn’t very full when we visited in mid-February so we got an end spot. Otherwise, you are very close to your neighbor. The park has a fair number of mesquite and evergreen trees, but this is still the desert so not a lot of privacy. Julian is a fun touristy town with lots of shops, several great bakeries, and a good brewery, The Julian Beer Company, that has excellent food. We had little to no Verizon at our campsite and the park’s wifi was barely usable and not very reliable. Cell reception was better near the office.

Halloween weekend 2015 my friends and I stayed here because I found a groupon offering a great deal on camping. The grounds are beautifully maintained and it is obvious someone has put a lot of love and craftmanship into this place. There is a small swimming pool, community building area, and a store/deli with an amazing selection of groceries at overall great prices (some campgrounds will gouge you for a bottle of ketchup, not this one!) We also saw adorable small cabins for rent for those who don't like tents. Because it was Halloween, the campground threw a party for locals and visitors and hosted a cake walk, games for the kids, and a raffle drawing. We threw our costumes on, grabbed our beers, and joined the fun! My husband won best costume and a free treat from the deli, a friend won a free night camping, and someone else attending even won an amazon kindle! The staff put their heart into the little shindig and we were touched by their love for their little piece of desert oasis. If you love desert views and genuine people- go check this place out.
