Our neighbor even canceled their reservation because of “weeds.” If you can look past that, you’ll have a wonderful experience. The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Everything works - showers, laundry, hookups - so even if it’s not recently updated, the important thing is it works. The highlights are proximity to the park, the on-sight bar where you can mingle with the staff, locals, and travelers, and the quiet, super dark star-speckled nights. We love this place so much that my husband is considering workamping in Baker nextSeason. We will be back.

We needed to protect our trailer pipes and sleep warm when it was going to be a wind chill in teens. Scored. Mayby half dozen other rigs. Rocky rv pads. The Great Basin campgrounds are without hookups and pull through was what we wanted. Did not use wifi. Password NOT in confirmation email; make sure to ask. Total fee $39.73

Convenient to Great Basin, only real option that had hookups and took reservations. Level site but weeds were overgrown. Did not use any of the park’s facilities (shower, washing machine) as our trip was short. Camp hosts seemed nice, other campers were very friendly.

The first impression pulling in was not very good especially given the price they charge. There is a mish mash of buildings, old RV’s, a rundown motel, a food truck and a couple of shacks. It looks like there are some LT residents in some of the trailers. I had to go in the bar up at the front of the park to register since I had no cell signal so the contactless registration didn’t work for me. The place reeked of smoke. The road/sites are all gravel and it’s fairly level although I did need boards under one side. There are some trees for shade, but no other landscaping. It was easy to get into my spot, but it is in close proximity to other rigs. Wifi was available and was moderately good. I had 4 bars of 3G Verizon service. Handful of OTA channels. The laundry was clean. 4 machines at $2 for wash and $2 for dryer time. Bathroom was not very nice. 1 shower and it needed work. It is just across from where you turn to go to Great Basin National Park so it’s very convenient for visiting there. I would only stay there if I couldn't get a spot in the NP itself. If you go, eat at Kerouac’s. Great food – small plates, and interesting wine/bar/beer selections.

Staying in Baker in the off season somewhat limits choices for eating out, although during the summer season there are a few restraunts in town. That said, the food truck at the Park, 487 Grill, has great burgers and other items. The park manager was helpful, guided us to our site upon arrival. The lodge has a bar, pool table, and shuffleboard, as well as frozen food items and an oven for baking. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Great Basin.

The owner and I got into a bit of an altercation on our way out. My young son was being an eight year old and dropped a small rock down an open sewer pipe. Admittedly he shouldn’t have, but he’s also a child. The owner saw this and started yelling at him. I was about 30 feet away hooking up my rig. He came right up to me, no mask, and started yelling and generally had a melt down. He told me he I would have to pay for repairs to which I agreed. He continued to rant and rave like a mad man. Fearing for the safety of my children, I quickly finished hooking up and left. The second we started driving I got an alert for a $150 “repair” charge. The place is sketchy and the owner is a mad raving lunatic. Stay away.

There aren’t many options in this area. Whispering elms has a few RV spots and a tiny motel. As others have said, dated but friendly and clean. I was happy to have an option for electric hookups on a quick trip passing through.

Unfortunately, between COVID (everyone on the road), fires in CA (camping closed so people went East) and one of the NP tent campgrounds closed, we didn't get a site. Good think we had made a reservation at Whispering Elms as a backup as they, too, were full. Not a lot of choices in the area. The campground is pretty much gravel and sand. They have some trees. They have full hook-ups. Wifi is very spotty. Some sites have picnic tables but you pretty much look at the side of your neighbors' rig. There is a laundry room and showers which we did not use. It was quiet at night and, when the skies were clear of smoke, you could see lots of stars. They assign you spots when you arrive. There is a bar/restaurant open limited hours. Be sure to bring all your own supplies as Baker, NV has no real services and I am guessing that is the same under non-Covid circumstances. It is very convenient to Great Basin NP and right across from one of the Visitors' Centers.I would stay here again - if I had to.

There aren't many RV sites available and only a few will reasonably fit large rigs, but when we visited in late August half the spots were available. The sites were gravel and dirt and required a couple leveling blocks to make it level. But it served our purpose in getting us close to the national park.

The town is kind of in the middle of nowhere, come with groceries! You’re here for Great Basin though, and you can’t get closer with full hookups. We were six miles from Lehman Caves Visitor Center (the cave tour was awesome!). It was a great homebase for exploring the park. It was a bit run down, but it was fine and we felt safe there. Verizon was pretty bad, but ATT had a little over 6 Mbps download and around 1 Mbps upload.

This park was also full when we arrived, but the staff was nice and opened a spot for us that hadn't been used in years. The reason for that was because the water spigot was unusable due to a constant leak and it was directly in front of the bathrooms (like 5' away) BUT it was very nice of them to be accommodating to us. It was also located next to a very large group of boisterous tent campers, and even in our RV it was a long, loud night. Other than to pay, we didn't visit the bar/restaurant area. We didn't use the laundry facilities, but they appeared mostly broken and not clean. The showers weren't the cleanest, but were included in the price and had plenty of hot water. The wifi was also included, but spotty as expected. The sites were close together with zero privacy. We wouldn't stay here again unless absolutely necessary as it was this time.

  • A good choice if you want full hookups while visiting Great Basin National Park.

We were pretty disappointed in two of the three. Whispering Elms is close to Great Basin National Park, so if hookups are a must, it’s not a bad choice. The spaces are gravel, fairly level and there were some trees for shade. Each space has a picnic table and some had firepits. Spaces were close together and lacked any privacy. Sites were a mix of pull-through and back-in. There is a small office/bar (hey, this is Nevada ????) where you can register and get a drink. Lol. Overall, the park was not very well maintained. There was only one working washer and one working dryer, and the laundry room was filthy. Bathrooms and showers were slightly better. The wifi wasn’t bad when it worked, however it frequently dropped and getting connected was a crap shoot. The single staff person on duty during our stay was doing his best, but clearly more support and maintenance are needed. Our daily rate of $25.09 reflects the discount for mentioning the All Stays app. There was also a discount for military service, not sure if there were others. We had 4 bars of 3G Verizon service unboosted. Because of the problems noted, I’d give the wifi a “C” grade.

There is a cat who will steal your sausages right out of your plate. If you are tent camping DO NOT GO HERE. There is no "grassy area" as advertised online. The tent sites are on the edges of the camp and many within inches of the unpaved roads. It's unsafe (especially with people getting drunk at the bar onsite) noisy, dusty and ugly as sin. We noticed that campers who got there earlier found more secure spots a bit further away from the RV traffic but they were just as noisy. To be fair we did show up at 8pm on a friday night during the Great Basin Astronomy Festival. All the campsites in the park were full (no reservations allowed for any individual site in the entire park) and there is no information out for the public at the main visitor center. The property is small and the owner did us a favor letting us camp there because really there was no other option.
