There are quite a few long termers here. It’s spendy, but everything in this area is. Pay attention to the directions given when you make your reservation. Don’t take Mesquite. Arivaca Ranch to Hardscrabble is the way. The road in is quite rutted and there are a lot of overhanging branches, so be aware.

When booking, Steve told me, in writing, that although he was having a vintage trailer gathering during the same time, that he had a nice private site for us. There are no private sites and the entire campground is kinda of a free for all with long term residents, old junked trailers and other crap. Steve had to have some guys in an old bus move so that we could get a site with power and water. There are no sewer hookups, but his helpers offer to come by with a waste tote to dump your tank. The WiFi only worked if you went into the trailer that serves as an office. We ended up leaving two nights early because of the terrible conditions. La Siesta is by far the worst RV park we have ever stayed in.

If you are in the area, we definitely recommend this campground. The small city was very welcoming as well.

We found La Siesta Campgrounds on the outskirts of the quirky little village of Arivaca, Arizona. There's another campground nearby but having seen it, we would not choose to stay there. La Siesta overlooks a lovely valley. The grounds contain native mesquite trees and trees that have been planted. The campground has 8 level pull through sites with water and electric hookups on the upper level. The lower level offers 32 sites for dry camping. There's a sanitary dump site on the grounds. The free wifi was excellent at our site. In addition to camping sites, there are several restored vintage trailers that can be rented. These trailers are fully equipped with linens, kitchenware, etc. On the lower level, there's a pond that attracts birds. The only thing that could be considered negative is that the bath house has one toilet and shower in the same room. I believe there are plans to develop something different in the future. Our host/owner, Steve Rendon, couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. He's made remarkable progress in the short time the campground has been operating. He's developed a following in the vintage trailer set. I have no doubt the campground will develop in the future. We'll certainly go back.

The campground was mentioned for its unique offerings – an RV park with electric & water hookups and a selection of vintage campers that can be rented nightly. As fulltimers traveling the country in our own vintage camper, we thought it would be an awesome experience to visit La Siesta Campgrounds for a few days.Location: Arivaca, Arizona (55 miles south of Tucson)Price: RV Sites starting at $18, Tent Camping $12, Vintage Camper rental starting at $65Date/Temp: Feb 9th 2016, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 40sNoise: La Siesta is a very quiet campground. Tucked away in rural southern-Arizona, wild life is the most we heard here.Wifi/Cell: Our phones (AT&T) and our hotspot (T-Mobile) received no cellular data. We did have full bars for making calls. The campground has centralized wifi. We could access it on our laptops from our site and were able to upload YouTube videos and stream from Netflix.Groceries/Errands: Downtown Arivaca is a few miles away from La Siesta. There’s a grocery store, gas station, restaurant, artist co-op, post office, and a weekend farmers market. Unlike other small towns we’ve visited, Arivaca offers many organic options at the local grocery store.Dog Friendly: The park is very dog friendly. They allow well-mannered dogs to roam off-leash and offer lots of land to explore. Arivaca also has multiple dog-friendly hiking trails.Scenery: Rolling hills lush with hickory trees surround La Siesta Campground. The night sky is amazing here, too. With no light obstruction, we could see millions of stars every night.Entertainment: Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge is located a mile away. It offers many hiking trails to explore. Downtown Arivaca’s history and charm also lend itself to exploration. Within a 40 mile radius there are historic towns, missions, and parks for day-trip outings. If you feel like chilling, make a campfire and listen to the coyotes howl.Overall: We really connected with the vibe at La Siesta Campgrounds. The hospitality is amazing and we have all the amenities that make us comfortable. We highly recommend Arivaca and La Siesta as a weekend getaway or a month-long retreat.
