Riverside is a typical rustic Big Sur campground. It has a mix of RV and tent sites with most of the tent sites next to the Big Sur river. Winter camping can be a bit chilly and on sunny days the canyon prevents direct sun light. If your intent is to explore Big Sur Riverside works just fine. Power is 20A only, the water pressure is a bit low with no sewer/dump station available. Bathroom/Shower were relatively clean.

We arrived here close to 6:30 when it was getting a little dark. The workers were super accommodating and pleasant to deal with. We set up our tent (not with ease) and the people at other sites came to check on us! We ate dinner, made s'mores and called it a night. I haven't gotten as good of sleep since I left, the campsite was right next to the river and the sound of the water just knocked me out and I woke up so refreshed! We walked around the area the next morning and the scenery is stunning. There are plenty of RV spots, enough tent sites and tons of variety of cabins. I would come here again for sure!It can be easy to miss off the main highway but it's not too bad. And it is very close to Julia-Pfeiffer which is a huge plus.Bathrooms were pretty clean, just a little packed at times. Bring your own firewood, it is a bit pricy (same as any campsite).
