Big Sur is beautiful and the drive is breathtaking. Fernwood is a cute little campground. There is a steep hill to get in and out of the campground with a hairpin turn at the bottom of the hill. Site 11 (where we stayed) is nice and right next to the river - which sounds beautiful at night. There was a fire pit and picnic table. Water and electric (30 amp) hookups - no sewer tho. Other things to note:* No cell reception * No sewer hook up (dump station cost $20)* The restaurant and bar were closed for maintenance for the week while we were there so no WiFi either* Cute store/gift shop* Right next to the river - which is great if the weather is nice* A bit dark and damp because you’re in a ravine* Pet friendly for additional fee* Paid additional for tow vehicle We were going to stay 3 nights but left after one for two reasons: 1 - We needed cell and/or WiFi because we unfortunately had to work. 2 - There was a big rain/wind storm coming - meaning our spot was going to get very muddy and you could tell it was smack in the middle of runoff to the river, the river was likely to rise and we didn’t want to get stuck in the mud at the base of a steep hill. All in all the is a great place to stay if the weather is nice and you don’t need cell reception (and the restaurant/bar is open - which I imagine usually is)

Big Sur is a magical place and the Fernwood Resort is nestled in its Redwoods and and along its river. The price you will pay for this beauty includes steep nightly rates, tight roads, uneven spaces, partial hookups, and no AT&T reception. That said, it is well worth it!
