Hidden south of Denton, TX, across I-35E, the Post Oak RV Park slumbers between a busy highway and an empty train track. There is nothing in the immediate area, though if you take a not-so-hidden shortcut behind the park you can cross the tracks and visit Denia City Park, which is highly guarded by the good people of Denton, so much that it’s all locked up unless an official sporting event like peewee football or little league baseball is happening.Denton itself is not a bad town, with a few cool little coffee shops, great thrift store type antique places, and plenty of pool halls, arcades, etc. Visiting the Golden Triangle Mall will give you access to a laser tag, glow in the dark miniature golf and an arcade or two.But as for the park, it’s nothing special, at all. The website touts that the real owner is a dog named Myska, but neither her nor her human counterparts were seen. You register for the park by dropping your cash or credit card number into a slot and just choosing a spot. No office required, though I believe one does exist. The website also touts that the park has a “refreshing pool” and “scenic picnic areas”. The picnic areas are only scenic if you consider the broadside of a 5th wheel scenic, or perhaps find the cool tranquil void of an empty, completely fungus covered pool beautiful. I suppose it should have been telling that the website’s list of attractions includes four locations, two of which being Dallas and Fort Worth. So of the attractions near the city of Denton, the owners feel that going to other cities might be for the best. Also note that there are no showers, no bathrooms of any kind. None at all. So if you don’t have your own shower, as we do not, expect to stink of high heaven by the end of the week, as we did.Denton is actually a really cool place to visit, though. There is a great bus system for such a small city and you can catch the bus less than a mile away from the RV park. The downtown area is very local business-oriented, I can’t recall a single chain store other than a Wells Fargo there, and still has a small town charm about it. Even the mall area is better than average (as sprawling strips of pavement go) with a bunch of craft stores and the mall itself having a low key vibe, as opposed to the rampant competition between fashion show teenagers and stodgy old seniors that most malls exude.Maybe we should’ve given Denton a weekend rather than a longer term stay.
