Coming up priest grade was scary but we left heading south and skipped it by taking J132 towards Merced and it was way better. If you have a large RV, stay away from highway 49 altogether. We took it all the way from Placerville to Yosemite area and it was terrible. I was told going south is awful as well. Staff is super helpful and friendly, lots of stuff to do, they sell propane in the campground and it was much cheaper than the 4 places we checked in Groveland. Just up the hill from the campground is the general store and gas station, they also sell firewood. TT members get 10% off at the store.We loved the campground and I would love to visit again in the summer and fall.We purchased the Jabba internet as we freelance for work and it worked well most of the time. It was fast internet. You only can have 4 devices on it so plan accordingly, or make another account and purchase an additional plan if you require more. We had to call support anytime we needed to remove devices which is annoying.We had zero bars with Verizon but could call and text once connected to the internet. Occasionally the phone not connected would receive 1X. We just used walkie talkies when separating around the campground.Playground is excellent!

Yes close to entrance but an hour away. Shaky power when I was there using a generator that had issues. Moved sites the next day which was satisfactory

This is probably our favorite TT. Great location. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The sites along the creek are super spacious. Just beware if you stay near the ditch, you may be visited by skunks at night!! Overall, we had an amazing experience.

This was also fast enough to do email including down- and uploading attachments with no issue, staying up to date on weather and do trip planning. Campground is in a beautiful valley with a creek running through. We would stay here again but use the main highway 120 through Groveland to get there next time.

Clubhouse and office under construction, so no laundry facilities. Very poor signage and lots of trash. We didn’t see any dumpsters. Overall it is just a dusty, hot, worn-out park. We’ve paid half as much for much nicer parks.

This campground teams with lots of children lots of tent campers. It is at the gateway to Yosemite and yet a lot of people come here to have family reunions or big parties with their friends. If you camp next to the river, expect people to walk to your campsite. There is no River access for other people except to walk through your site and they do several times an hour. The staff are fabulous, super wonderful and helpful, Mary, Tom, Kevin and the Rangers. There is no cell service at all. Wi-Fi is minute by minute even if you pay for it, not strong enough to Zoom. You can drive 10 minutes for 1 bar Verizon or 5G ATT. 5 miles to Yosemite gates.

Leveling was a bit of a challenge for our 28 foot class A RV though. There are lots of pull-through sites in other areas but none of them have tree shade. Finding a site next to the river is just about impossible unless you get insanely lucky. Bathroom #4 was very clean and well maintained. A country store is located about 1 mile from the campground. It has basic supplies and gas pumps. 10% discount on in-store purchases for Thousand Trails members (alcohol excluded.) A decent sized grocery store is in Groveland about 20 miles away. We tried several fun hiking trails inside the park during our stay. Lots of places to bike as well. Warning: there is no cell service at this campground. You have to drive almost 2 miles for AT&T or Verizon. To find a signal, turn left out of the campground on Highway 120. Go a little over a mile and then turn right on Sawmill Mountain road. Look for a sign that says "Sawmill Mtn Area." Then drive about 100 yards and there is a small turnout to the left near a green gate. Look for the fake tree with light brown bark that is actually a cell tower. The complimentary laundry room wifi was terrible. We did not try the optional paid wifi. The nearby Evergreen Lodge has excellent food and terrific wifi! To get there, turn right out of the campground on Highway 120 going towards Yosemite. Drive about 4 miles and then take the left turn to Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. Campground lodge was closed due to Covid.

A few hours of well-paved and maintained, two-lane, no guardrail, three feet from certain doom, steep, twisty, blind cornery road was quite a challenge to drive on. I do wish I could have taken my attention away from the road and taken in the views as I drove, but that would have been a fatal mistake. If you don't know how to drive in the mountains, don't go here. If you're underpowered or overloaded, don't go here. And for the love of all that's holy, if you pass the park turn around as soon as you can. There aren't too many places to turn a big rig around on that winding road and a few miles down is a 10' 6" tunnel.Google maps might suggest you turn off the main road to a side road for the last 1/2 mile or so, you're better off not going that way. If you continue down a bit you'll see a Valero gas station and signs for TT on your right. It's easy to spot coming in that direction, but coming from Yosemite it's easy to pass.Yosemite. The entrance is only a few miles down the road, through the aforementioned tunnel and a bit beyond, IIRC, it's 10 miles to the entrance from the gas station. We went on a Monday and took the accessible path to the lower falls. It's really great that they have a paved path that's wheelchair accessible all the way to the bottom of the falls, my wife really enjoyed herself. I was really surprised at how crowded the park was on a Monday morning in late March, I can't imagine what it's like on a Sunday afternoon during peak season.The RV Park. There's a member's only area where they have the 50 amp sites but it's really tight in there and as I said, I arrived after dark, so the ranger suggested I take one of the pull-through sites in the group area. It was full hook-up but only 30 amps. There were a LOT of open sites when I arrived, and I think a few areas of the park hadn't even been opened up yet, because it was just opening up for the season. The park was one of the better TT parks, the roads in the park were badly broken up from the winter but I was assured they'd not be staying that way for long. They were doing construction on the loge and surrounding buildings and from what I was able to see, it looks like it's going to be nice when they're done. The laundromat is large and looks like it's well maintained, it was certainly kept clean. I can't speak to how the machines work, I have a W/D in my rig and didn't use them. There were deer everywhere in the area. In the week I was there, I easily saw 20 deer along the roads and in the woods around the park, no bears. The park has yurts available as well as cabins. As I mentioned, there's a Valero gas station at the entrance. It has gas, diesel, propane, and a well-stocked general store. If you're a TT member you get a discount. The gas was expensive but convenient, there's another station ~30 miles back down the road you came in on where it's cheaper. The important thing about any gas station is the condition of the tanks that hold the gas and I'm not comfortable getting fuel at run-down, middle-of-nowhere gas stations. I was happy paying the extra $.50 a gallon for the newer tanks at the Valero. When you find out diesel injectors are around $400 each, I have 8 of them, and over $1000 labor to get at them, you'll start to understand why I'm picky about what I put in my tank. The usual COVID restrictions were in place, so there wasn't much to do in the park itself.I'm really 50/50 if I'll ever go back. The stressful drive and the way it pushes the envelope of my truck are two really big strikes against it. The crowds at Yosemite, and what they portend for busier times of the year don't help its chances either. There's a restaurant a few miles back the way you came in on the right-hand side of the road called the Luck Buck Cafe, its chicken fried steak is enough to make that road look less challenging, lol. My wife ordered a hamburger and when it came it was not lacking in size, to say the least. She ate half of it and was stuffed to the gills. The leftover burger heated up nicely the next day and she loved it for lunch. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't terribly expensive either and when you factor in the food, service, location, etc it's all very reasonably priced.Jabba pay to play internet, zero cell coverage. The Jabba antennas looked new so I'm guessing the system was new and even just coming online. The first few days we were there it didn't even register as available on my phone, but then it started showing up and stayed available. Typical free wifi at the lodge and laundromat.

Thousand Trails, like many parks, really need to upgrade their campgrounds. The RVer population is growing and rigs are getting bigger! Be careful in your drive in, do your homework on the highways in as many are 10% grade.

We were present on our site when it happened. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The 20-30 foot tree segment fell on our neighbors truck, on our van and against our RV. We were present on our site when it happened. Thankfully, no one was hurt. We thought it was an act of God until we learned the next day from 2 Thousand Trails employees and the tree service employees that the tree and the one next to it were dead and were suggested for removal a year ago. So the accident was completely avoidable. The campground was closed from November-March for winter and March-June due to Covid; there was plenty of time to take the trees down. Their insurance is denying the claim saying the trees were healthy, even though an Arborist staying at the campground who saw the tree fall, said the trees were dead. Our van and our neighbors truck are totaled; we have 4 holes in the roof of our RV. Thousand Trails has yet to reach out to apologize or check-in to see how we are doing. A few days after the accident, the manager of the campground slammed her door in my face after I asked for information/answers relating to the incident, saying "It's my day off". We were stuck on our campsite for 6 days before we were able to secure a rental car. We pay annual dues to be in the Thousand Trails network; we assumed these dues were used to keep the parks in safe condition. We never thought that something like this would ever happen; the manager said this is the first time anything like this has happened. They usually have to contend with fire in the area. At minimum, we are wanting Thousand Trails to reimburse our out of pocket expenses accrued to get us home; these expenses were not covered under our insurance. This situation ruined the last 7 days of our camping trip as I spent hours and hours day after day away from my family on calls with insurance navigating a plan to get us home safely. We did not have a vehicle to get us off the campground to utilize our Yosemite National Park reservation, visit surrounding local attractions, or shop for necessities.

From what we had been told by the staff, Thousand Trails was stuck in the contract with them at this time. When we called the company to trouble shoot our slow speeds (couldn't even browse the web), they went straight to offering the refund. So, that told us that they know they have issues and have no intention on fixing them. On the positive, the free Wifi works great from the lodge and if you don't want to sit in the lodge, you can park close by and get a strong enough signal to check emails and make phone calls. But who comes here for wifi right? This place is in a perfect location near Yosemite National Park. Just a few miles down the road to the entrance. You will want to stock up on food as the nearest grocery store is a little bit of a drive. There is a gas station on sight (with diesel) and they have a small, but well stocked mini mart and gift shop. ALSO IMPORTANT- CALL BEFORE DRIVING UP TO GET DIRECTIONS. THERE IS A FEW STEEP GRADES THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE CAUGHT ON. We came from a Harvest Host in Merced and found ourselves on a switch back grade (scariest drive of my life) that drop down to a bridge crossing and river and then straight back up. We normally route plan extensively, but the Harvest host was a last minute idea and I was "trusting" the GPS. We took New Priest road leaving and it was an easy drive down for us.

Overall you are staying here because you cannot get into Yosemite and it's close. Getting to this campground is not for the faint of heart as you are going to drive a VERY steep, winding road to get here. Once you arrive know there are no level spots. Most of the spots had large ruts that could not be avoided. There is ZERO cell service here and you will need to drive 10+ miles to get any type of usable service. The park wifi is virtually non-existent. Don't waste your money to pay for the paid wifi because it doesn't work and no one can help you with it. They give you a phone number to call for help so that's funny because you have to drive 10 miles to make a call to get the wifi at you site to work. There is roaring cell service in Yosemite valley! We ended up driving into the park to work. The park did offer a nice club house that was really large, a nice store and a gas station which is the only station for miles! The park was quiet and the staff was friendly.

Our picnic table was being used by our neighbor and the fire ring was beneath the back of our MH, which was OK because there was no level room to put a picnic table and we don’t do fires. There are lots of very tall trees along the river sites and RV sites in the meadows. The CG has yurts, cabins, tent sites, cottages and bunkhouses. We had no Verizon cell service and the only Wifi is in their clubhouse, which was a bit sketchy when it was busy. The staff is very pleasant.

Looked like they wood actually take a dirty mop to the rest rooms once a week. 3 days went by without TP or paper towels to dry your hands. Pretty disgusting IMO. A shame too because the rest rooms were pretty new.DUST DUST and MORE DUST. Yep, sites are gravel, roads are gravel, the air is dry and there is dust galore. A couple times I was here a construction crew that was staying in the park actually had a water truck and they (gratefully) sprayed the roads when they were going to be driving their vehicles in and this lasted a good day or two. Only a handful of 50 amp spots and those are in an area where there is tree cover so no satellite can be had there.5 miles to the Yosemite entrance is nice but don't be fooled here. Never have I seen so many rental RVs. And of course they are sightseeing not doing the speed limit. Yosemite Valley is probably 20+ miles from there. Expect an hour+ to get there (and more to get back).Don't miss Hetch Hetchy. Probably an hour+ but well worth it and pretty empty. Mariposa grove is also a must visit while here. Tioga Pass is a beautiful drive and less crowded than the valley.

No cell service available at all in the campground but you can purchase WiFi Internet from Jabba Communications provided by the park. Cost is $6/day, $15/week or $30/month. Internet is good overall (2Mb to 8Mb) but we had occasional delays for a few seconds, mostly when the park was full and bandwidth was hammered. There were two times when the Internet was down for half the day as they worked to restore service. I would still purchase the WiFi service but don't expect it to be 100% reliable at all times. The area close to the lodge and river gets the most kids and families. We preferred to stay in the overflow area at the far end of the park. It was quieter but a bit of a walk to the main office. The road is very quiet except for campers coming in and out of the park. That made for a nice place to walk/run for miles without many cars. Not much for trails so save those trips for Yosemite up the road. We had several days around 100 degrees. Not too horrible but I'd prefer to come at a different time of the year when it is cooler and we'll plan for that next time. No fireworks were aloud on the 4th due to fire danger but you can have fires at your camp site. Coming from the west? Our app sent us down Red Hat road at Chinese camp. That was a mistake. Stay on the main road through Chinese Camp even though its longer. It also suggested Old Priest Road but RV's are not allowed so we went up 120 as you are expected to do. The road up 120 is crazy for the 8 mile section but everyone else with big RV's has to go that way too. Just plan on taking your time and using pull-outs. You also have to go through the park on 120 to get to Tioga pass to the east. That means paying the park fee to get through. Yosemite was very crowded every time we went, especially at the Yosemite Valley popular spots. Plan on going as early as possible and preferably mid-week. We enjoyed our stay. It is a nice park and managed well. We will be back.

We were one of only 12 campers in the whole place in mid December. Only 30 amp spots available in winter but it was nice weather and very quiet with great staff. Remember this is a place to camp only a few.miles from Yosemite NP so don't expect a luxury resort. WiFi only in the lodge and no cell service.

What an amazing location - 5 minutes from from west gate or Yosemite National Park. It is still about 30-60 minute drive inside of park, but this is a start. The park had a flood earlier this year so they are working on fixing everything and I think it will be great when fixed up.The people working there were so nice - even though they were short handed. They were hiring for nearly all positions but things were being kept up and I even noticed a really worn out picnic table got replace while we were there.There was only wifi in the Family Center and it was a really bad connection. They said it was messed up with the flood so hopefully it gets fixed soon. Also, no cell phone services at all, so it made the wifi even more to be missed. We got cell service inside Yosemite which helped out, but just be prepared.

We have a Thousand Trails zone pass and stayed here for free. The reason we have a zone pass and not one of the more expensive memberships is because we're not particularly impressed with the quality of Thousand Trails campgrounds. The reason we have a zone pass and not one of the more expensive memberships is because we're not particularly impressed with the quality of Thousand Trails campgrounds. Most are pretty run down and don't appear to be well kept. We also find it stressful after a long drive to have to find a first-come first-served site that will work for us. The zone pass helps spread out the costs of other campgrounds so we can stay some place nicer for half the month and stay free or cheap at a TT park for the rest of the month. Anyway, with that said, each TT park is different and some are nicer than others. The main thing that this park has going for it is it's close proximity to Yosemite. It's only 5 miles from the entrance and made it a very convenient place to stay while visiting Yosemite. The park itself is okay. Many sites were unavailable due to recent flooding and electric not working. The playground was falling apart and not open. Mini golf was very worn out. The lodge is pretty nice and WiFi worked well in the lodge. There is zero cellular coverage at this campground. You can drive about 5 miles down the road towards Groveland and get a usable Verizon signal, and inside Yosemite Valley there is a great Verizon 4G signal, but don't expect to be able to use Verizon at all inside the campground, even with a booster, it does not work. The staff is very friendly and we enjoyed our stay, we would stay here again to visit Yosemite.

So we were in the non member spots. Not to bad. Don't take the spots up toward the office go down the row as far as you can. I doubt there's more room but it sure felt like it. The river is cool but if the campground is full I'm. It sure where you'd really see it from. Decent mini market for those eggs you forgot to pack (oops) full hookups all worked great and when we had a small hickup the maintenance guy was there within minutes. Front desk people were always helpful and nice.

If you have a TT membership this is the place to stay when you visit Yosemite. The sites are spacious, have full hook ups, and 30amp electric. The clubhouse has stuff to do on a rainy day, pool, ping pong, etc. The showers and restrooms are pretty old and kind of dirty. The local grocery is very, very, very expensive. The cool part is your verizon data will work in Yosemite valley. I ended up working there the entire time. I was getting 6mbps.

Mosquitos did appear the closer you go to the river but they were nothing to complain about. The campground is only 5 miles from the west entrance to Yosemite National Park. We visited the park on a Thursday and found large crowds, although we did avoid the 2-mile long traffic jams which we heard are the norm Friday-Sunday. If we return we would prefer to go in the Spring or Fall to avoid the summer crowds. The campground offers WiFi connection in the lodge. Phone reception is not available. Through their limited WiFi service, we had no problem accessing text messages but trying to connect to emails was almost impossible.
